Jessica Chastain playing Princess Diana in planned biopic

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Jessica Chastain used 2011 as a coming-out party, displaying her incredible range in such vastly different pictures as “Take Shelter,” “The Help,” “The Debt” and Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life.” Now that Hollywood knows she exists, it’s time for the industry to use her properly. Here’s one such example of a film role Chastain was born to play.
The redheaded beauty will play the late Princess Diana in a pending biopic titled “Caught in Flight,” according to The Washington Post. It will be directed by “Downfall” helmer Oliver Herschbiegel, and will focus on a love affair the royal had with Pakistani surgeon Hasnat Khan, which reportedly last two years and ended shortly before Diana’s death.
“The project is currently being shopped around at the American Film Market,” the Post reports, adding that if “Caught in Flight” does not get proper financial backing, then plans to begin pre-production in March could change.
Chastain proved she could play virtually any shade in 2011, switching roles with ease and never failing to convince the audience of her motivations. Playing Diana would be a massive challenge. Do you like the selection? Do you think it’s too soon for a Princess Diana movie? And if they are going to do a Diana biopic, is this the story that you’d want told? Let us know below.

Princess Diana conspiracy doc securing distribution deals

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The film didn’t make as big of a splash at Cannes as one might have thought, but not it seems that audiences will be able to see the conspiracy-stirring Princess Diana documentary “Unlawful Killing” and judge for ourselves whether director Keith Allen is off the mark or on to something larger.
Allen’s film, financed by the late Dodi Al-Fayed’s father, Mohamed, paints a theory that places blame on Diana’s automobile death on the Royals family. And now it has secured “key distribution deals” in such places as Russia and Spain, with an eye on securing a North American deal, THR reports.
“We’re determined to have a major North American release, whether in theaters or on television,” said Conor Nolan, an employee of Al-Fayed’s production company. He also said that distributors in Japan, Italy and Australia are interested.
Lukewarm reviews from Cannes seemed to kill the film’s chances at seeing the light of day. But the power of Princess Diana, and the influence she continues to have over people, likely have kept interest in “Killing” somewhat high. Plus, people love conspiracy theories, no matter how thin.
We’ll continue to track “Killing,” which could continue to his festivals like Toronto, New York or Venice if producers want to continue generating headlines around the controversial documentary.

Princess Diana murder doc slammed in Cannes

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Keith Allen’s documentary “Unlawful Killing” had generated ripples of controversy heading into this year’s Cannes Film Festival for the stance it took regarding Princess Diana’s death (and a letter she wrote prior to the crash detailing how her death might happen).
Now that it has screened in Cannes, those ripples are turning into waves.
The Daily Mail, reviewing Allen’s doc, dismissed it as “unlawfully dull,” and said the picture, which is funded in part by Dodi Fayed’s father, comes off as “the ramblings of a sour old man who misses his son.”
The picture accuses the Royals of plotting Diana’s murder, going to far as to decribe them as “gangsters in tiaras.”
Sasha Stone of Awards Daily attended the Cannes screening and Tweeted shortly after, “It was so unintentionally funny it could have been a Christopher Guest movie.”
That’s a good line aimed at what sounds like a not-so-good movie. I’m still looking for positive reactions to the film. If you see any, please let us know.

Princess Diana murder doc brings controversy to Cannes

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Conspiracy theories swirl around most of our major events, from the tragedies of Sept. 11 to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy Jr.
Now a documentary film claiming there was a cover up regarding Princess Diana’s untimely death in 1997 is coming to the Cannes Film Festival, and already, people are up in arms.
The largest complaint, according to the Vancouver Sun, centers around “a graphic photograph of a dying Princess Diana” that is included in director Keith Allen’s “Unlawful Killing.”
Allen’s film was funded by Mohamed Al-Fayed, father of Dodi Fayed, who died in the car crash alongside Diana in the tunnels under Paris.
“Screening this film in Cannes for the world’s media will be both exhilarating and terrifying for me,” Allen said, calling the film “an inquest of the inquest into Diana’s death.”
For more on the conspiracies, view the film’s trailer (below). For more on the movie, visit www.unlawfulkilling.com.
