Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis ‘American Lover’ still in script stage

HollywoodNews.com: Vanessa Paradis is starry eyed about playing opposite her partner Johnny Depp in the romance project “My American Lover.”
Though it was already revealed this summer that the movie was being put together, Paradis offered the press some more insight about “American Lover” in which she portrays feminist writer Simone De Beauvoir and Depp, her lover Nelson Algren.
Paradis tells WENN: “They’re still writing the script but the idea would be amazing because it’s such a beautiful story. You only know when you’re really actually shooting.
“We’ve had plenty of opportunities to work together. But I don’t know that I could do it… It’s something that we don’t look for, otherwise it would’ve happened many times.
“‘My American Lover’ came along and it might happen just because the story is great and why not if we can, but we don’t push things. Playing in front of one of the best actors in the world that we have and someone I know so well will be challenging.”
Depp and Paradis originally starred in Terry Gilliam’s first incarnation of “Don Quixote” at the start of the millennium which shut down due to production problems.

Ewan McGregor ‘Quixote’ film loses backing says director Gilliam

HollywoodNews.com: Terry Gilliam’s second go at his quirky epic “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” looks to be cursed again.
The film which stars Robert Duval as Quixote and Ewan McGregor has lost its financing.
Gilliam tried making the film with Johnny Depp back in the earlier part of the millennium; however the production was plagued with a myriad of hiccups, one being that the production flooded. Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe, fave documentarians of Gilliam, captured the mishaps of “Quixote” in their 2002 feature “Lost in La Mancha.”
Gilliam revealed the latest incarnation’s botched financing at the Deauville American Film Festival on Saturday. Gilliam is being honored at the festival and the event is running a retrospective of his work.
“I shouldn’t be here. The plan was to be shooting ‘Quixote’ right now,” said the director.
Variety had the story.
“Robert Duval is Quixote, Ewan McGregor is also there, and we are looking for new financing right now,” Gilliam asserted about the project remaining active. Despite production problems, Gilliam claims he does not believe in the “curse of Quixote” which “Lost in La Mancha” attributed the first feature’s failure to.
“Don Quixote gives me something to look forward to, always. Maybe the most frightening thing is to actually make the film,” added Gilliam.
Gilliam’s last film, “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,” marked the final performance by actor Heath Ledger before his death. The film generated just under $8 million at the domestic box office.

Johnny Depp is out, but Ewan McGregor is in Gilliam’s “Quixote”

Hollywoodnews.com: Johnny Depp will no longer be headlining Terry Gilliam’s long-gestating passion project “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote,” rather Ewan McGregor will be taking the lead.
Film is expected to start lensing in September. Depp will be unavailable then because he’ll still be sailing on a ship for Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean 4.”
Gilliam has been attempting to make a Don Quixote film for several years. The IFC documentary “Lost in La Mancha” documents how the director’s first production, which cost $35 million, was cursed by flash floods and other abnormalities.
His most recent version will have a pricetag of $20 million.
As scooped by Empire Online, McGregor will play a 21st centuary ad exec who is transported back to 17th century Spain where he meets the legendary character who jousts windmills. Robert Duvall is slotted to play Quixote.
“Robert Duvall is one of the greats, no question – and he can ride a horse!” laughed Gilliam to Empire. “And Ewan has gotten better over the years. He was wonderful in ‘The Ghost.’ There’s a lot of colours to Ewan that he’s not been showing recently and it’s time for him to show them again. He’s got a great sense of humour and he’s a wonderful actor. He’s wonderfully boyish and can be charming – when he flashes a smile, everybody melts. He wields it like a nuclear bomb!”
