“Boardwalk Empire” Actress Confirms Role for “Deathly Hallows – Part 2″

HollywoodNews.com: A new bit of casting news has been revealed for the final installment in the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 2, and it gives us a glimpse into one of the more mysterious characters mentioned in the books written by author J.K. Rowling.
In an recent interview with Vanity Fair, it was revealed that Boardwalk Empire‘s Kelly MacDonald has “a small part as the Ravenclaw house ghost in the final Harry Potter film”. It can only be assumed that this is the part of Helena Ravenclaw, whose identity was a mystery to Harry Potter fans up until the near end of the seventh book. Helena’s background is a sad and twisted story, which plays a somewhat important role in Harry’s understanding of Voldemort and the search for the remaining Horcruxes. MacDonald can currently be seen in the HBO hit series, Boardwalk Empire, playing the character of Margaret Schroeder.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – part 2 will be in theaters July 15, 2011.

James and Oliver Phelps Answer Fans’ Questions at Dragon*Con

By Hanako M. Ricks
HollywoodNews.com: Fans of the Harry Potter series who are attending this weekend’s Dragon*Con convention in Atlanta a chance to ask questions to James and Oliver Phelps, who are guests of the convention’s Young Adult Literature track.
The twins, who plays the Weasley twins Fred and George, participated in two Q&A panels this weekend: one on Friday, and one earlier today. Fans had a chance to ask their most burning questions; however, James did request in Sunday’s panel that no one ask any questions relating to “spoilery” events in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, for those fans who have not read the books.
Some of the questions ranged from film-related (is there an actual actor in the scenes with the moving portraits, or is that all special effects), to personal (as a twin, what’s the weirdest twin question you’ve ever been asked), to funny (can you say “bambling bumbling bands of baboons together”).
The brothers also noted that while they plan to continue acting, the rest of the year will be full of doing promotions for the upcoming Deathly Hallows, the first part of which is scheduled to be released on November 19; part 2 will follow on July 15, 2011.

Matthew Lewis Talks About Neville’s Growth in Deathly Hallows

By Hanako M. Ricks
HollywoodNews.com: Gone is the false teeth, the exaggerated ears, and the fat suit – Neville Longbottom in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is no one to mess with.
Fans of the Harry Potter series know that Neville Longbottom hits his stride in Hallows, when he steps up to take the leadership role for Dumbledore’s Army in the absence of Harry, Ron and Hermione. We learn that Neville becomes hero and protector during the tumultuous seventh year, protecting the female and younger students from tortured discipline as the students rebel when known Death Eaters have been placed in positions at Hogwarts.
Neville’s portrayer, Matthew Lewis, talks about the change his character has gone through over the years, and how Neville has evolved.
“Having started when I was 11 years old, Neville was shy and vulnerable, who was pushed around, bullied and was very nervous.
“Over the years, he has more depth and can stand up more for himself. In the seventh one, he’s almost a completely changed man. He’s a reckless resistance leader who wants to go and fight, and do the right thing. He’s become more heroic, he’s got heart, courage and loyalty. He’s still not perfect, but he comes through where it counts.”
We will get to see Neville’s growth and maturity when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is released; Part 1 is due in theaters on November 19, 2010, followed by the final film (Part 2) on July 15, 2011.

Team Alice or Team Ginny? Part 4 of the Twilight vs. Harry Potter Debate

HollywoodNews.com: E! Online’s Twi-Potter Tournament is still pottering along, and part 4 of the debate is between sisters Alice and Ginny.
Let’s not mince words and get right into it, shall we?

Alice Cullen: Alice is easily one of the most popular and well-liked characters in the Twilight series. I’ve always thought of Alice as the “free-spirit” of the Cullen clan. She’s always upbeat, tries to keep a positive outlook on everything, and is fiercely loyal and protective of her family. Her ability to see the future has its advantages, which comes in very useful as her family is always in some kind of turmoil trying to keep Bella alive and safe. Alice also has one of the more interesting backgrounds, which we find out about unexpectedly towards the end of Twilight (the book), which – in my opinion – makes her character even more interesting. She’s loyal and supportive to “husband” Jasper, who sometimes has trouble with his new way of life (not drinking blood of humans). But don’t let her small stature and sweet disposition fool you – Alice has been known to kick some butt when it comes to defending the people she loves.
Turn-ons: Her ability to know when danger is approaching, her loyalty to her friends and family, her cheerful disposition; seriously, is there anything to not like about Alice?
Turn-offs: She sometimes uses her ability to manipulate certain situations, but never to a point where it’s completely selfish or dangerous for any involved. Again, there’s not much to not like about this vamp.

Ginny Weasley: Ginny is the youngest sibling and the only girl in the Weasley clan, so she has a lot to overcome. Being the little sister of six older brothers can have its disadvantages, but it has its advantages as well. As such, Ginny has learned to be tough, to not let her circumstances affect her, and she fights to stand out on her own as a talented witch, and not just “so and so’s sister”. However, her weakness has always been Harry Potter, and her childhood crush ends up hurting moe than helping when her lovesick writings in a talking diary allow her to actually be possessed by Tom Riddle, a.k.a. Lord Voldemort. She is saved by Harry, and after that has to work to overcome her shame on being possessed. She allows her crush to dissipate, dating other guys [...]

‘Harry Potter’ actor Matthew Lewis helps launch new cancer-fighting equipment

By Whitney Milam
HollywoodNews.com: Matthew Lewis doesn’t just play a heroic do-gooder in the Harry Potter films: after launching new cancer research scanning equipment at St. James’s Hospital yesterday, he’s proven his real-life heroism as well.
Lewis, who will play Neville Longbottom in the upcoming two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post about the cutting-edge cancer-fighting equipment’s purpose, saying, “I don’t think there is anyone in the country that knows anyone who hasn’t been affected by cancer.”
Dr. Andrew Scarsbrook, a radiologist and nuclear medicine physician for the company behind the equipment, calls the launching “a vital step in taking cancer care in Yorkshire to the highest level.”
Matthew also shed some light on what he’s brought to Neville’s character development in the final two films, explaining, “It has been more of a challenge each year to bring a little bit more as Neville’s character grows. He has become a reckless resistance leader with no concerns for his own safety. He wants to do the right thing.”
We’ll get to see him lead the forces of good into battle when Part Two is released next July. The first part of “Deathly Hallows” hits theaters in November of this year.

Harry Potter fan activists help Haiti, present livestream with Evanna Lynch

By Whitney Milam
HollywoodNews.com: The Harry Potter Alliance, a volunteer fan charity organization dedicated to “using the examples of Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore to spread the love and fight the Dark Arts in the real world”, partnered with The Leaky Cauldron, MuggleNet, HPANA, and Fiction Alley to found Helping Haiti Heal in order to assist with relief and help the Haitian people recover from January’s earthquake disaster.
Since its creation, Helping Haiti Heal has raised over $123,000 and sent 80,000 pounds of critical medical supplies to Haiti on five different planes; named, appropriately, “Harry”, “Hermione”, “Ron,” “DFTBA” (Don’t Forget to Be Awesome), and “Dumbledore”. Dumbledore, the fifth and final plane, successfully landed in Haiti on Tuesday, and to celebrate, the HP Alliance will present a livestream event featuring Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood in the films), contests, giveaways, discussions, and several other special guests tomorrow, Sunday June 27 from 2 to 6pm.
HP Alliance co-founder Andrew Slack writes, “Like the spirit of the Phoenix, from the ashes of rubble in Port-au-Prince and throughout much of the island, from the tears may there emerge new life. The people of Haiti will rise again!” Here’s to the real-life members of Dumbledore’s Army.
To find out how to vote for the HP Alliance in the Chase Community Giving contest and watch a video clarifying the group’s mission, click here or visit the official Facebook page. To find out how you can get involved in a troupe near you, check out the official site.
UPDATE: J.K. Rowling herself has responded to this incredible movement with a handwritten letter to the HP Alliance, saying,
Dear Andrew,
Dumbledore–UNBELIEVABLE!!! Every time I try and think of words for what you and the HP Alliance have done for Haiti, my mind goes blank (and my eyes fill with tears).
You all have done the most magnificent, overwhelming, inspirational, and awesome thing! (And I mean ‘awesome’ in the true meaning of the word, not as applied to lip gloss or pizza).
With love and admiration always,
Jo
