2013’s “Evil Dead” biggest shock

Evil Dead is a surprisingly faithful yet reimagined retread of the legendary Sam Raimi film that pushes the limits of commercial theatrical wide release horror films. This is a horror film that isn’t afraid or ashamed to be one. With a intense, blood-drenched finale that should leave a packed theater cheering, Evil Dead falls on the side of good remakes.
The story of this iteration of Evil Dead surrounds a girl, Mia (Jane Levy), who is being taken out to an old abandoned secluded cabin, once owned by her family, to hopefully detox her current drug problem. Along the way to assist, are 2 of her friends and her brother with his girlfriend. Upon exploring a smell in the basement, Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) and David (Shiloh Fernandez) find a ritualistic set of dead cats and the Book of the Dead. After reading some passages, wild things begin to happen to Mia. Should her friends believe the things she says or is it her trying to escape cold turkey detox?

Foo Fighters tweet sympathy after Belgium concert tragedy

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Another weather-related tragedy at a live music event has claimed the lives of at least five concert attendees.
The annual Pukkelpop festival — which takes place near Hasselt, 50 miles east of Brussels, Belgium – has been canceled after a massive thunderstorm destroyed tents and stages, injuring at least 40 and killing five, as was reported Friday morning. The band Smith Westerns was on stage as the storm descended on the open-air festival when the structure collapsed around them, MSNBC reports. The band members were OK, but their equipment was ruined.

Foo Fighters, Eminem and The Offspring are among the bands who took to Twitter after the cancellation to express condolences to fans and mourn the loss of the deceased.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the tragic events at Pukkelpop. For information +32 (0) 11 23 97 11” the Foos tweeted.
The Belgium incident occurs days after the stage collapsed on fans attending a Sugarland concert in Indianapolis.

Eminem boxing drama may lure “Training Day” director

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Eminem surprised a number of people (myself, included) with his dramatic acting chops in the gritty “8 Mile.” And while his records certainly sell, I was kind of hoping he’d dedicate himself to acting for a few years so we could see if his performance in Curtis Hanson’s film worked so well because it was largely biographical or if Mr. Mathers actually had acting chops.
But Em’s follow-up film is moving closer to becoming a reality – nearly a decade after the 2002 “8 Mile” hit theaters – and a credible director is stepping into the ring.
Antoine Fuqua, director of “Training Day” and “Brooklyn’s Finest,” is circling the film “Southpaw,” a boxing movie that would star Eminem as a welterweight champ fighting for his title after a tragedy, THR reports. If Fuqua signs on, the film would eye a fall shoot. The script was written by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kirk Sutter, and was trying to get into theaters in 2010 but lost a little momentum when David O. Russell’s “The Fighter” took off.

Eminem slams Lady Gaga in new song

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: “Tell Lady Gaga she can quit her job at the post office, she’s still a male lady,” says Eminem at one point in his new song “A Kiss” from his “Bad Meets Evil – Hell: The Sequel” LP. According to Gossip Cop, the line may allude to a 2009 rumor started by Starr Trash and carried by Bossip, which asserted that Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite.
At the height of rumors (August 2009), Gossip Cop refuted the Lady Gaga hermaphrodite speculation as untrue, but the story has continued to resurface from time to time in the months since. Yet, in the absence of any comment from Lady Gaga herself, what proof have skeptics shown? Reports have ranged from citing confirmation by “reliable sources” (whatever that means) to ambiguous video footage allegedly showing the outline of a penis.

Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay headlining Lollapalooza

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Lollapalooza, the granddaddy of summer music festivals, celebrates 20 years this summer with a three-day spread in Chicago’s Grant Park, and an all-star roster of performers have agreed to show.
Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, My Morning Jacket and Deadmau5 have been handpicked as headliners by fest originator Perry Farrell and his crew.
Those acts will join A Perfect Circle, Bright Eyes, The Cars, Big Audio Dynamite, Ween, Arctic Monkeys, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Nas, Explosions in the Sky, Death From Above 1979, Deftones, Beirut, Flogging Molly, OK Go, The Kills and Cold War Kids.
Enough? Don’t stop there.
Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Cage the Elephant, Rival Schools, The Chain Gang of 1974, Friendly Fires, Portugal. The Man, Manchester Orchestra, Two Door Cinema Club, Noah & The Whale, Lissie, Foster the People, Mayer Hawthorne & the County, Fences, City and Colour, and Gold Motel are also slated to perform at the August festival.
Farrell was eager to talk about Eminem when he sat down with MTV News this morning, saying, “He’s always put together great productions for his shows, and this is something that we look for at Lollapalooza — not just to go out there and perform, but to really give a show.”
This summer’s Lollapalooza takes place on Aug. 5-7 in Chicago’s Grant Park.

What is Happening with the Grammy Awards?

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: The Grammy Awards are dropping 31 categories from their rosters, going from 109 to 78 different awards. To do this they’re going unisex– no more Best Male or Female anything in pop, rock, R&B, country, etc. For solo performances, men and women will be pitted against each other.
Also dropped are the confusing group awards. Now instead of pop or rock performance duo or group etc it’s just Best Rock Performance by a Group, or Pop Performance by a Group and it can be vocal or instrumental, with two, three, eight performers. We’ll see how this all works. It does mean that Bruce Springsteen and Sheryl Crow will wind up vying for the same singing awards. same for Justin Bieber and Britney Spears. It also means that the afternoon cattle call before the televised awards on Grammy day will be about an hour shorter. Gone are Best Hawaiian, Zydeco, and Native American recordings–they’re now all in one award, Best Regional Music. I don’t know what happened to Best Polka Album.
Now if only whoever pares down Album of the Year would include those by veteran artists, we’d be ok. Paul Simon’s “So Beautiful or So What” is so far above anything else this year, it would be a shame if it gets relegated to some side category. This past year that’s what happened to Eminem, whose “Recovery” was far more important than Lady Antebellum’s soft sounds– and lost anyway.
