Past Oscar relations: Crowe won Best Actor for Gladiator and has two other acting nominations, Hopkins won Best Actor for The Silence of the Lambs and has three other acting nominations, Connolly won Best Supporting Actress for A Beautiful Mind, Nolte has three acting nominations, Langella has one acting nominations, Aronofsky has a nomination for Best Director, and DP Matthew Libatique has a nomination for Best Cinematography
Here we go now with our first true article in this new series on 2014 contenders. First up is Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, which again brings him together with the likes of Jennifer Connelly, composer Clint Mansell, co-writer Ari Handel, and cinematographer Matthew Libatique, along with newcomers like Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, and Logan Lerman. It’s a retelling of the story of Noah (shockingly enough), though apparently more in line with Aronofsky’s prior work like The Fountain than more straightforward biblical tales to date.

What this movie has going in its favor is quite simply Aronofsky. He’s a visionary director and this has long been a passion project of his. I’ll have a bit more to say about passion projects this weekend, but I’m someone who’s always interested in them and how much potential they have. Aronofsky finally caught the Academy’s attention last time around with Black Swan (though both Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler scored acting citations), so if Oscar voters are now on his wavelength, we could see them look to honor his ambition here.
Working against Noah is publicity that the flick will get because of its origins, as opposed to the final product itself. Early reviews have been mixed but mostly positive, so it’s not a question of if the film is any good or not, but if it’ll be given a real chance. My heart wants to say that folks will look past the potential protests from the religious right, but my head thinks that it’ll become something all too easy to ignore for voters. Taking into account that it’s an early year release as well, and the movie clearly will have an uphill battle for any major recognition, to say the least.
So, can this be a player at all? My gut says [...]

‘Noah’ debuts a new TV Spot

If there’s one new release this month that I’m really looking forward to in a big way, it’s Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, which has long been a passion project of his. The last time he had one of those on his mind, we got The Fountain, which is a divisive film, yes, but also one of my five favorite films of all time, so suffice to say, I’m 100% in for this one. Aronofsky has a top notch cast on hand too, including Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connolly, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Logan Lerman, and Nick Nolte, among others. I’m not usually big on biblical epics, but this could be an exception. A new look at the movie has arrived today in the form of a 30 second TV Spot, and I’ve got that for you all to check out momentarily. The flick comes out in theaters at the end of the month and is a must see in my book based on the filmmaker’s reputation alone, for whatever that’s worth. Decide for yourself though below…
Here’s the new TV Spot that dropped today:

This will likely either be a huge hit or a huge flop, financially at least, but one thing is for certain, it won’t be for lack of ambition on Aronofsky’s part. Either way, for me, March 28th can’t come soon enough!

Emma Watson talks the battle with her hair

HollywoodNews.com: Emma Watson maintained the same look while filming the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, but once that was done she ended up chopping it off into a cute pixie cut.
Now, she is opening up to ‘Glamour’ about the ongoing battle with her hair and her preferred style, states UsMagazine.com. “If I had it my way, I would have just kept it short forever,” Watson said about not being able to decide that due to her career.
However, she is certainly only growing her hair for work, not for a man: “Of course, men like long hair. There’s no two ways about it. The majority of the boys around me were like, ‘Why did you do that? That’s such an error.’ And I was like, ‘Well, honestly, I don’t really care what you think!’ I’ve never felt so confident as I did with short hair — I felt really good in my own skin.”

Emma Watson reveals “lesbian” comments that came after haircut

HollywoodNews.com: Emma Watson chopped her hair into a pixie cut some time ago, but the drastic change apparently had some people wondering if there was more to the haircut than met the eye.
Watson recently revealed that her shortened haircut had some asking her if the change was a comment on her sexuality, states People. “I had journalists asking me if this meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now. That haircut did make me realize how subjective everyone’s opinion is. Some people were crazy for it and some people just thought I’d lost my [mind],” Watson commented.
However, she isn’t about to not do what she wants just to please others: “I’m a multidimensional person and that’s the freedom of fashion, that you’re able to reinvent yourself through how you dress and how you cut your hair or whatever.”
What do you think about her style?

Emma Watson thanks fashion for expanding her career past ‘Harry Potter’

HollywoodNews.com: Emma Watson is definitely known for her role in ‘Harry Potter,’ but these days she has become so much more than her famous film character, and she thanks fashion for that.
Watson feels like getting to explore fashion and have fun with it gave her a name outside of the film franchise, states UsMagazine.com. “Fashion gave me a chance to feel like I was something outside of ‘Potter.’ I’m a multi-dimensional person and that’s the freedom of fashion; that you’re able to reinvent yourself through how you dress and how you cut your hair or whatever,” Watson explained.

Emma Watson talks dressing down in normal life

HollywoodNews.com: Emma Watson may be a fashion icon to many women out there, but she thinks that is just her style on the red carpet and not in her everyday life.
Watson recently spoke to French ‘Elle’ about how she prefers to dress down in her normal life when she isn’t being the public persona of “Emma Watson,” states UsMagazine.com. “When I don’t have to play Emma Watson in public, I’d rather not put myself ‘out there,’ I have to be more careful with my look in my everyday life,” Watson said about not having the same style on a normal day.
In fact, she thinks her style off the red carpet is nothing to talk about: “My problem is that I am a little bit boring. I don’t wear designer bags or big sunglasses.”

Emma Watson’s hair more popular than Jennifer Aniston’s hair

Watson’s new hair was reportedly searched for more online than Aniston’s was, states UsMagazine.com. But it seems she may have some male competition as Justin Bieber’s hair was also high on the list.
The two young stars are also among the fastest rising hairstyles that are searched for.
