Betty White Fund to help rare saiga antelope in Kazakhstan

HollywoodNews.com: Having already funded research on the health of dolphins affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Betty White Wildlife Rapid Response Fund will now help the rare saiga antelope in Kazakhstan. More than 12,000 critically endangered saiga antelopes were found dead in western Kazakhstan in May of this year.
“Everyone knows how much I love dogs and cats, but wildlife species have a special place in my heart, too,” said Betty White. “It is such an honor to contribute to a fund that can rapidly address wildlife health needs in times of crisis.”
The rapid response fund, established by Morris Animal Foundation in honor of longtime trustee Betty White, will begin supporting Fauna & Flora International’s efforts to study this rare and beautifully unique antelope in Kazakhstan. Saigas have experienced one of the fastest declines recorded for mammals in recent decades: a 95 percent decrease in population over the past 20 years. This distinctive-looking antelope, which has a large, trunk-like nose that hangs over its mouth, once numbered in the millions and migrated in herds up to 100,000 strong across the plains of Central Asia and Russia. Sadly, the species has dwindled to about 80,000 globally since the early 1990s.
Morris Animal Foundation established the Betty White Wildlife Rapid Response Fund to give wildlife researchers timely monetary aid to respond to unexpected events, such as natural disasters and emerging diseases, which result in the immediate need for animal health research. The Foundation is one of the only organizations in the world funding health-specific research for wild species. Since 1967, Foundation-funded research has advanced the health of our planet’s wildlife — and, in some cases, has ensured the very survival of a species.

Mel Gibson rants fueling new crop of comedy bits

By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
HollywoodNews.com: At least Mel Gibson’s making some people happy. With every new rant tape release, there’s been a new crop of comedy bits on TV, radio, internet and, well, most anywhere people are being funny. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger got into the act, with the AP reporting that the California Governor told a group of utility commissioners in Sacramento that it looks as though BP has capped the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, but “no one has figured out how to contain Mel Gibson.” The fake Anger Management classes that have been spliced together featuring Gibson, Christian Bale and Alec Baldwin in full tilt fury are a newer twist to the half dozen or so Gibson- Bale-Baldwin phony phone calls out there.
All of which should serve as a cautionary note to celebrities everywhere: these days, if you’re recorded while screaming, it will never, ever go away. And you could find yourself in bad company, too. Just ask Kanye West, Michael Richards, Will Arnett, Glenn Beck, Lily Tomlin, Seth Green and Matt Damon, who are among the regulars in Celebrity Rant mashups on You Tube.
Too bad no one was around with a recorder when Paris Hilton had a temper tantrum in the middle of a restaurant while dining with Pam Anderson – because no one was reading the menu to her highness.
Or when Russell Crowe was so bent out of shape over his Manhattan hotel room phone not working, he ripped it out of the wall, went downstairs and hurled it at the concierge.
Or when Madonna went into a rage on the set of a Britney Spears video in which she co-starred, because her costume didn’t fit. If only that tape were available.

Twilight “Breaking Dawn” to film in Baton Rouge and Vancouver

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: During the June 24th Red Carpet Premiere of “Eclipse”, producer Wyck Godfrey leaked that he and Bill Condon were set to location scout in Louisiana for “Breaking Dawn”. In all the excitement about “Eclipse”, the fact that scouting was set to take place outside of the Pacific Northwest was swept under the rug. Yet, a recent press release from Summit Entertainment revived the dormant story, confirming not only that Louisiana was a location of interest, but that filming would take place in southern locales.
The press release was sparse, saying only that the final installments of the Twilight Saga would be “filmed in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Vancouver, [Canada] over the next year starting this fall.” It went on to reiterate previously known facts, such as the November 18th, 2011 release date of the next film and confirmation that “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two.
Bringing filming to Louisiana will be a boon to the economically compromised state (and, to a lesser degree, to states along entry and exit routes that fans will use to make pilgrimages to the set). Decimated first by Hurricane Katrina, which made landfall nearly five years ago, the region’s financial crisis has endured as a consequence of the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A “Breaking Dawn” filming effort will allow the region to recapture some of the lost income that came in the wake of destruction.

Maxim coverstar Olivia Munn and her best TV moments

By Andy Pemberton
HollywoodNews.com: Maxim coverstar and favorite of cable network G4 Olivia Munn has made it to The Daily Show. How did she do that? Clue: she’s an incredibly hot woman who’ll do anything for a laugh.
Daily Show Executive Producer Rory Albanese said it was only recently that he and host Jon Stewart discovered cable network G4’s most prized possession: a hot girl who’ll do anything for a laugh. “We’re stuck in a hard news cycle and we’re nerdy,” Albanese said. “If she was on the cover of The Economist, we would have been like, ‘Yes! Of course!’”
And yet last Thursday, there was Munn delivering her first reported segment on the Comedy Central show about how the BP oil spill has affected Vietnamese fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico. Stewart introduced her as the show’s new “Senior Asian Correspondent.”
