“Twilight: Breaking Dawn” first reviews hit the Web

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The trades smashed the embargo on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” reviews this weekend, posting their opinions on Bill Condon’s first segment in the two-part finale to Stephenie Meyer’s cherished series.
So if you want to go into next week’s movie untainted, be sure to leave now and avoid spoilers.
Still here? Are you sure? OK, here it goes.
“Big things happen in this penultimate Twilight entry: Bella and Edward get married, she gets pregnant on their Brazilian honeymoon and almost perishes before giving birth, and finally, after four films and about 490 minutes of screen time depicting simmering desire and superhuman restraint, she wakes up with the red eyes of a vampire. (Spoiler? Hardly.)” writes Todd McCarthy in THR. “But so little else occurs between these momentous events in Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 that you can practically hear every second ticking by while awaiting the payoff.”
“In the end, given how little goes on in Breaking Dawn — Part 1 despite the major plot points, what you’re left with is to gaze at the three leads, all of whom have their constituencies and reasons for being eminently watchable. The only hope is they’ll have more to do next time around,” he concludes.
Variety’s Justin Chang is a little more generous, writing, “Though filmed with the utmost soft-focus, duvet-wrapped tastefulness, the couple’s wedding night leaves Bella covered with bruises, the bed in tatters, and the audience, presumably, in a puddle of ecstasy. Surely this must be the first movie series so innately fearful of sex (and yet so dependent on its leads’ sex appeal) that even proper conjugal relations come with a note of caution
“Every time the film shifts away from Bella and Edward to address the larger group dynamics, the narrative goes flat and the ensemble’s line readings turn to wood, in large part because this style of dramatization is so at odds with the thrust of the source material,” he continues. “Like any commercial behemoth, The Twilight Saga by nature resists any attempt at transcendence, experimentation or risk; that’s especially unfortunate in the case of Breaking Dawn, which is by far the most out-there novel in the series and would have benefited from a dash of Cronenbergian body-horror and, commercial restraints notwithstanding, a willingness to push past a PG-13 rating.”
Not that reviews necessarily matter. “Twilight” has its die-hard fans, and nothing will keep them from [...]

‘Twilight’ sex scene will pretty much be close-ups

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that ‘Twilight’ fans may not be seeing too much during the ‘Breaking Dawn’ sex scene as a sex scene wasn’t exactly what was shot.
Kristen Stewart recently revealed that mostly close-ups were filmed of her and Robert Pattinson, states UsMagazine.com.
“It’s not a beginning-to-end sex scene; it’s memories, it’s nice. So because of that, I never really got to shoot…we didn’t shoot a sex scene; it was all close-ups and such,” Stewart said about what fans will see.
And she seems to think this is what is right to stay true to the book: “[I]t really reflects what I felt when I was reading the book.”

Robert Pattinson: afraid of embarrassing self in sex scene

HollywoodNews.com: Robert Pattinson survived his sex scene with Kristen Stewart in ‘Twilight,’ but it sounds like it wasn’t exactly easy to get through it.
Pattinson recently admitted that he was worried about embarrassing himself during the shoot because of who it was with, states People. “I think the more comfortable you are with each other, the harder it gets to do any kind of really intense relationship scene. You’re kind of thinking, ‘I don’t want to embarrass myself in front of this person,’” Pattinson revealed.
But it seems that he isn’t hoping for too much in the end when the film finally premieres: “Watching other people have sex is never going to be that spectacular anyway.”

Robert Pattinson: which ‘Twilight’ fans are most passionate

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Twilight’ fans are definitely passionate about the film franchise, but it seems some fans are noticeably more passionate.
Pattinson recently revealed David Letterman that it isn’t all the teenage girls who are the biggest fans, states UsMagazine.com. “It’s older [women] … The older ones are far more passionate fans,” Pattinson commented.
While those fans may be overwhelming at times, it seems he has one important reason for being so happy with the passionate fans: “[S]taying employed in one form or another is enough for me!”

Taylor Lautner taps Gus Van Sant for pending project

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: With “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” heading toward theaters (or Part One, at least), we’re all starting to look beyond the vampire series to see where its massive stars will turn next.
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have experimented with vastly different genres in films like “The Runaways” and “Water for Elephants” (to name two). And Taylor Lautner tried his hand at action with “Abduction” … though it didn’t really take off.
Maybe he’ll have more luck with legendary indie director Gus Van Sant, who reportedly will direct a project Lautner will produce that is being adapted from an article in The New Yorker magazine.
Which article, and what subject matter, is still unknown, though a source tells THR that an announcement should come out later this week regarding the plot and screenwriter. The trade runs through a myriad of projects Lautner has considered in his crucial post-“Twilight” career, from “Max Steel” (based on a Mattel toy) to “Stretch Armstrong” (based on a Hasbro property).
But they’ll have to do better than “Abduction,” which struck out with critics and ticket buyers. Van Sant’s films don’t make a ton of money, either, though acting – and acting well – in a Van Sant film could earn Lautner some industry cred. We’ll see.

‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 ‘ originally had an R rating

HollywoodNews.com: As ‘Twilight’ fans will see the sex scene between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s characters, the first part of ‘Breaking Dawn’ was apparently originally given an R rating.
Stewart recently revealed to ‘Glamour UK’ that the film had to be recut for audiences due to too much going on in the sex scenes, states UsMagazine.com. “We originally got rated R … [The ratings board] knows who our audience is, and can be like, ‘Hmmm guys, just cool it a little,’” Stewart revealed.
And it seems like Stewart agreed with some of it being too much for ‘Twilight’: “It didn’t even feel like we were doing a scene within a ‘Twilight’ film. I was like, ‘Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!’”

Robert Pattinson: wedding ceremony with Kristen Stewart was real

HollywoodNews.com: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may not be legally married, but they apparently were involved in a real wedding ceremony for ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn.’
Pattinson recently revealed that the film used a real priest for the wedding ceremony, states UsMagazine.com. “Technically we are already married because he did all the things you would do in a normal ceremony. So we don’t have a civil union in law, but I guess in the church we are actually married,” Pattinson recently joked about the situation.
Luckily for his many female fans out there, the marriage isn’t official without the legal side of it so other women might still have a chance.

Robert Pattinson on awkward sex scene with Kristen Stewart

HollywoodNews.com: Fans will soon get to see the ‘Twilight: Breaking Dawn’ sex scene between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but hopefully it is not as awkward as they felt it was.
Pattinson recently opened up about the scene and how uncomfortable they were in it, states UsMagazine.com. “The sex scenes were difficult. The set was crazy and you have about 20 people in the room and someone saying things like: ‘No, Bella would not have made that noise,’” Pattinson revealed.
But it wasn’t just everyone else that made it awkward as the two stars felt a little unsure about certain things: “Kristen and I were both worried about the shape of our bodies would look on camera. We felt vulnerable.”
Part one of the film will be in theaters on November 18th.
