“Twilight: Breaking Dawn” reportedly earns $30M in midnights

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Those who attended midnight screenings of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1” might still be sleeping. Later today, when they wake up, they’ll learn that the contributed to near-record-breaking midnight totals.
Bill Condon’s first stab at a “Twilight” film reportedly earned $30.25 million in midnight screenings, according to Deadline. Based on those figures, Summit is putting its weekend estimated between $110M and $125M, the site says.
That’s not the highest-grossing “Twilight” opening, however. The record, if these figures hold, still will belong to “New Moon.”
But there’s a lot of “Twilight” to be played this weekend, and these are preliminary figures. Check back Sunday afternoon for complete estimates.

“I, Frankenstein” starring Aaron Eckhart will release in U.S. Feb 22, 2013

HollywoodNews.com: Aaron Eckhart will play Adam Frankenstein in the Lakeshore Entertainment, Hopscotch Features and Lionsgate production of “I, Frankenstein,” commencing in Australia in January. The film was written and is to be directed by Stuart Beattie (director of Australia’s breakout hit “Tomorrow, When the War Began,” and writer of such films as “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “G.I. Joe,” “30 Days of Night,” and “Collateral”), and is based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the “Underworld” franchise. Lionsgate will distribute the film in the United States, Lakeshore will handle international sales and E1/Hopscotch will distribute in Australia. U.S. release is slated for February 22, 2013.
Aaron Eckhart recently finished shooting the lead role as an ex-CIA agent in “The Expatriate,” and stars alongside Johnny Depp in the upcoming “The Rum Diary.” He is repped by CAA.
“I, Frankenstein” is a modern-day epic: Frankenstein’s creature, Adam, has survived to present day due to a genetic quirk in his creation. Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. As writer/director, Stuart Beattie said, “Mary Shelly’s story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.”

Stephen King writes sequel to “The Shining”

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Horror/suspense author Stephen King recently unveiled passages from a new work, “Dr. Sleep,” the sequel to his 1977 bestseller, “The Shining.” Portions of the emerging text were read to an audience at Washington D.C.’s George Mason University. Said King, “I always wondered what happened to that kid, Danny Torrance, when he grew up.”
“The Shining” wrote Danny at around five years old. Nearly thirty-five years later, “Dr. Sleep” will rejoin him in his forties. In this new look, we will see Danny use his psychic abilities to help terminally ill patients. Conflict arises amid the arrival of “The Tribe,” psychic vampires who feed on people’s energy. The unveiled passages implied that Danny’s abilities have been further developed, though specifics were not immediately clear (those wishing to see the George Mason University reading may do so online).
There is no news yet of plans to film the sequel, though such an announcement would come as no surprise. Some thirty-three feature films and eighteen television movies have been based on Stephen King’s books, including “Stand By Me,” “Dolores Claiborne,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.”

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Twilight’ fans must be crazy excited for the upcoming film because even one of the film’s stars, Taylor Lautner, can’t hold back how ready he is for it.
Lautner recently spoke about how ready he is for the film to be released, states E! News. “I always do get excited but I can say I’ve never been more excited than for this one specifically,” Lautner commented about ‘Breaking Dawn.’
But what has him so excited? “For me, it’s by far my personal favorite. It’s the best one,” Lautner revealed about the film everyone worked hard on.

“Underworld: Awakening” has a new trailer

HollywoodNews.com: After a detour into ‘new director’ and ‘new star’ prequel land, it appears that the Underworld series is returning to its.. uh… roots? Anyway, Kate Beckensale and director Len Wiseman are back, for those of you who care about such things. I will say that I saw this trailer before Fright Night and the 3D work was pretty solid, and the images were suitably brightened up so you could actually see what was going on (unlike Fright Night, which was like watching a VHS copy-of-a-copy taped off of an antenna-feed UHF airing). The film also looks like it has been shot with the brightest blue filter ever created for cinema. I had not seen any of the Underworld films until just a couple months ago.

How bad is the first Underworld? Well, not only is it an insanely long 134 minutes, it was so dull and uninspired that I have thus far resisted my OCD-completest urge to rent the rest of the franchise. It’s hard, strolling through Blockbuster with my mail-order DVD/Blu Ray rental… with the other two films in the franchise just sitting there on the shelf. I have thus far resisted, and hopefully I can stay strong. If you’ve seen any of the sequels, are they worse than the original? Anyway, this one comes out January 20th, 2012. As always, we’ll see. Well, you’re see. I certainly will not see.

Is Robert Pattinson recording new music?

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: He was seen several times at a Los Angeles recording studio last week. Could Robert Pattinson be working on a piece of music? It’s not a stretch—in addition to playing piano and guitar, the actor has been known to sing and write music.
He did, in fact, sing on the “Twilight” soundtrack, accompanying himself on the guitar with “Never Think” and “Let Me Sign.” Already, some are speculating that Pattinson’s recording sessions have to do with the soundtracks of the two “Breaking Dawn” films. However, similar reports arose prior to the release of the “New Moon” and “Eclipse” soundtracks, neither of which ultimately featured Pattinson or his music.

“Twilight” Producer On “Breaking Dawn” Pirate and MPAA Rating!

HollywoodNews.com: Wyck Godfrey, producer of the Twilight movies presented his new TV show Revenge to the Television Critics Association. Afterwards, I pulled him to the side to ask about the latest on Breaking Dawn and landed an exclusive scoop.
Readers know that Bella’s birth scene will be difficult to show on screen, because of the graphic descriptions of vampire labor. Godfrey said that director Bill Condon has a solid cut of the scene that should land a PG-13 from the MPAA.
“I have seen numerous cuts,” Godfrey said. “I think that process is taking place right now. We don’t have any word yet on the rating but I think we’re going to be okay. We’re releasing it PG-13 and it’s incredibly powerful already. It definitely captures what the book captures.”
Breaking Dawn has been split into two parts in order to fit as much of the book as possible into the movies. Part one should not run any longer than Twilight, New Moon or Eclipse though.
“We’re very close to locking picture on part one,” Godfrey added. “It’s about what the other three are, about two hours. I haven’t seen an assembly for Part 2, so we’ll start to get into it in December.”
The piracy case has been big news for Summit, but Godfrey clarified that his job is to focus on finishing the film. However, he supports the studio’s effort to hold the pirate accountable.
“It’s very important for people to understand that when you hack into people’s private e-mails and private systems to steal material that is not yours, that you’re going to get punished. It’ll work itself out. What happens with this, the material already got out. There’s nothing we can do about that. I do think it’s about just sending a message that in this day and age, you can find that stuff out through your own computer systems and experts who can track that stuff.”
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens November 18.
