Neil Patrick Harris talks end of ‘How I Met Your Mother’

HollywoodNews.com: Rumors are running wild that ‘How I Met Your Mother’ will only continue for two more seasons, and now Neil Patrick Harris has offered some hints in regard to that rumor.
Harris recently revealed that he isn’t sure when the show will end, but it could be sooner than expected, states UsMagazine.com. “Our contracts end at [Season] 8, so it’s one of those, you know, if they wanna do 9, they’re welcome to, but we have a lot of other things [going on],” Harris commented.
He also added that they are all anxious to move on from the show but would probably stay if the pay is right: “I think the only way . . . a season 9 or any longer would happen would be [if it were] financially right — that’s the reality of it.”
How long do you think the show will last?

The Hunger Games topped the box office for the third time in a row

HollywoodNews.com: Whatever my issues with The Hunger Games in terms of its quality as a film, its continued box office might can only be a good thing. Considering the current trend of studios basically remaking/rebooting/rehashing every remotely popular property over the last thirty years, the fact that this NEW adaptation from a NEW novel is going to be among the top three grossing films of the year by a healthy margin can only be a good lesson. Anyway, The Hunger Games topped the box office for the third time in a row this weekend, dropping a perfectly reasonable 43% in weekend three, for a weekend haul of $33.5 million. This gives the film a massive $302 million in seventeen days, which is the second-largest such haul for a film outside of summer in history. That’s the fifth-biggest seventeen-day total in history, and 11 days ahead of Alice In Wonderland, the closest non-summer competitor and just two days behind Avatar. Forget Twilight comparisons, it’s already passed Eclipse, which is the highest-grossing entry in the series. And forget the majority of the Harry Potter series, as it’s $14 million away from surpassing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and it’s already tied with the $303 million 17-day total of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part II with significantly larger second and third weekends to boot. At this point, it’s playing like Spider-Man 2 and the last Harry Potter film, with stronger weekends but lighter weekday grosses. The second Spidey pick ended its third weekend with $302 million and ended its domestic haul with $373 million, while Harry Potter 7.2 ended with $381 million. Factoring a rather busy April and the coming summer onslaught, that’s as good a place to predict as to where the first The Hunger Games ends up.
The top opener, one of two wide releases, was American Reunion. The unasked-for sequel is the fourth theatrical entry in the American Pie series but the eighth chapter counting the four direct-to-DVD films. This ‘most of you need a paycheck because none of you really broke out’ rehash opened to $21 million, which is almost identical to the $19 million debut this time last year of Scream 4. To be fair, at least some of the cast has worked relatively steadily since 1999, with Alyson Hannigan going from one [...]

Alyson Hannigan spills “American Reunion” plot details

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: So far, the entire cast of the original “American Pie” films have agreed to return for Universal’s comedy sequel “American Reunion,” from Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott to Tara Reid and Mena Suvari.
Up until this point, however, we didn’t know what to expect beyond gratuitous nudity, toilet humor and one or two lessons about the difficulties of growing older. But “How I Met Your Mother” star Alyson Hannigan, who was a band camp geek long before she joined that hit sitcom, opened up to EW about plot details, filling in story gaps for the film that’s going to pick up where 2003’s “American Wedding” left off.
“We’ll, we’re still married,” she said of her character and Biggs’ protagonist, the hapless Jim. “And we have a child. So we’re navigating the waters of parenthood and how that changes the dynamics of a relationship. But also they’re going back to their high school reunion and so there’s some nostalgia there of, ‘Aw, remember what we were like when we first met?’ That kind of stuff. It’s really nice.
“I really love that relationship and they’ve stayed true to it,” Hannigan continued. “The great thing about this franchise is that, of course, there’s the raunchy humor but here’s also a lot of heart to it. And this fourth movie does not miss the boat on that at all.”
“American Reunion” filming is underway, targeting an April 6, 2012 release date.

Neil Patrick Harris is the “Hollywood TV Star of the Week”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: When news broke that Ashton Kutcher was replacing Charlie Sheen on the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men,” one of the first reactions I eagerly anticipated was Neil Patrick Harris.
But why? Harris has nothing to do with “Two,” and even less to do with Sheen (as far as we know). But Harris has, in fact, become an influential celebrity Tweeter, commenting, critiquing, and even assisting in ways social media mavens can only dream. Oh, and as for his Kutcher comment, NPH tweeted, “Ashton’s replacing Charlie? Good times! CBS shindigs just got much easier on the eyes.”
Ah yes, CBS. Home of Harris’ hit sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” which concludes its sixth season as it sets the stage for seasons seven and eight (which could be the show’s last). In Harris’ hands, Barney has gone from womanizer to legitimate character, even carrying an emotional arc this season that found Barney meeting his father (John Lithgow). Once the slinger of punchlines, Barney is now an integral part of the “HIMYM” family, in no small part due to Harris’ acting talents.

But that’s not all he’s capable of. Harris made a memorable stop on “Glee.” And he remains a terrific host of live events, which is why he has been asked to return as host of the 2011 Tony Awards, which will be televised live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City on June 12.

Harris was so good at the Tonys, he was asked to open the 2009 Emmys, and once was considered the perfect host for the Academy Awards/ Here’s his opening number from the 2009 Emmy ceremony.

If the TV screen had an idol – and no, not an “American Idol” – it would be Neil Patrick Harris, which is why we are very proud to announce that he has been named the “Hollywood TV Star of the Week.”

Alyson Hannigan in the mix for “American Reunion”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Of all the “American Pie” veterans, Alyson Hannigan might be the hardest one to lure back for a sequel because, you know, she has a legitimate career.
The award-winning actress currently is cleaning up as an ensemble member of CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother,” so has no real demand to leap to the big screen. But while most may know her for “Mother” or even “Buffy,” Hannigan owes a bit of her success to the “American” franchise, so it makes sense that she’d return for a reunion and pay her respects.
Deadline’s saying Hannigan will join Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy and other “American Pie” alums for “American Reunion.”
But as they point out, Hannigan had some leverage as the story “revolves around her marriage and child with Jason Biggs’ character.”
So the “Pie” franchise is trying to grow up. Not too much, I’m sure, as they’re going to want to appeal to the core, crass audience. Maybe the filmmakers will town the Judd Apatow line? Anyway, I’m glad Hannigan’s on board. She’s a great talent, and the sequel’s instantly better with her involved.

Neil Patrick Harris’ summer film on trailer

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: Neil Patrick Harris may be best known for his television roles on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Doogie Howser M.D.’ but he’s also made plenty of movies from ‘Clara’s Heart’ opposite Whoopi Goldberg to his hilarious turns in the ‘Harold and Kumar’ flicks. He also got terrific reviews for the otherwise panned ‘Beastly’ earlier this year.
But this summer, NPH will have his biggest film role in years as a lead in the comedy ‘The Best and the Brightest.’
He plays a dad looking to get his daughter into a prestigious kindergarten in New York City. In order to impress school admissions officials, he pretends he’s a poet and ends up becoming the toast of the town.

Neil Patrick Harris TV renewal and movie opening news

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: It’s a big week for Neil Patrick Harris who found out he will be playing the hilarious Barney Stinson on CBS’s ‘How I Met Your Mother’ for at least two more years.
Deadline Hollywood reports that the cast – NPH, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, and Alyson Hannigan – are all set to return.
We all know that the supremely talented Neil, who is the father of baby twins with partner David Burtka, could have his pick of things to do in television, movies or stage if he wasn’t on the sitcom. He’s also hosted the Emmys and the Tonys – imagine what life he could have brought to this year’s dreadful Oscar ceremony!
Speaking of films, Neil got some good notices for the poorly-reviewed film ‘Beastly’ starring newcomer Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens. USA Today wrote that “the movie’s saving grace is Neil Patrick Harris as Will, Kyle’s wisecracking, blind tutor, who appears at Kyle’s house one day to school the self-centered guy on being decent, with a capital D.”
The film opened in third place over the weekend earning an estimated $10 million. It finished behind the animated flick ‘Rango’ featuring the voice of Johnny Depp and the new Matt Damon thriller ‘Adjustment Bureau.’

‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Confirms Role in Cop Comedy

HollywoodNews.com: “How I Met Your Mother” star Jason Segel confirmed his next leading film role today, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Segel, a writer-actor known for his role as lovable goof-ball lawyer Marshall Eriksen on CBS’ hit romance sitcom, is set to star in Undercover Cop, a period comedy produced by DreamWorks Studios and Oscar-winning screenwriter Steve Zaillian’s production company, Film Rites.
Although DreamWorks has yet to disclose the full plot, The Hollywood Reporter states the comedy inspired by the true story of a former cop. The film is set in 1980s New Jersey and centers around the state’s underground criminal world—a world that has been depicted in numerous onscreen mediums.
Aside from How I Met Your Mother, Segel can be seen on the big screen this June in the comedy Bad Teacher.

Neil Patrick Harris hopes his kids think he’s funny

HollywoodNews.com: The public absolutely loves Neil Patrick Harris, but right now the actor is working on making sure he can make his twins laugh.
Harris has twins with his partner, David Burtka, and wants to make sure they think he is funny, states The Huffington Post.
The ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor took to Twitter to reveal why this is his goal: “The tots both started laughing. On the same day. I’m now obsessed with getting them to do it. Babies laughing is like opium.”
Do you think Harris will be able to keep them laughing?
