CW to air week long marathon of ‘The Vampire Diaries’

HollywoodNews.com: The CW Network today announced plans for a special marathon week featuring “The Vampire Diaries,” starting on Monday, December 13. For the second year in a row, this week-long event offers fans the opportunity to catch up with season two of “The Vampire Diaries” and allows the uninitiated the chance to get into one of TV’s breakout hits.
Airing two episodes each night from Monday, Dec. 13 through Friday, Dec. 17 (8:00-10:00p.m. ET/PT), The CW will rebroadcast the first 10 episodes of the second season of its addictive hit “The Vampire Diaries” across its entire primetime schedule that week, beginning with this season’s explosive premiere. “The Vampire Diaries” is The CW’s most-watched and highest-rated series among adults 18-34 this season.
“The Vampire Diaries” is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. During season one, Stefan (Paul Wesley, “Fallen”) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder, “Lost”), returned to their hometown of Mystic Falls, Virginia, for very different reasons – Stefan was determined to get to know Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev, the upcoming film, “The Killing Game”), who bears a striking resemblance to Katherine Pierce, the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in 1864, while Damon was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch’s spell all those years ago. In season two, the appearance of the villainous Katherine in Mystic Falls has thrown a wrench into the love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon, and the other residents of Mystic Falls must choose sides as they fall victim to a new breed of danger.

Silversun Pickups, Placebo featured on “Vampire Diaries” soundtrack

HollywoodNews.com: “The Vampire Diaries” Original Television Soundtrack will bring a handful of exclusive tracks unavailable elsewhere—including songs by Smashing Pumpkins and Gorillaz—plus favorites from season one of the hit TV show, including “Sleep Alone” by Bat for Lashes and “Running Up That Hill” by Placebo. The collection’s focus track is “Obsession” by 18-year-old Internet sensation Sky Ferreira, who’ll release her eagerly anticipated debut CD in early 2011.
The “Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries” is out October 12, while the new season of the hit CW network show—about two vampire brothers obsessed with the same beautiful girl, who are battling to control the fate of an entire town—launches its second season today, September 9 (airing Thursdays at 8/7c). And “The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season” was released on Blu-ray™ and DVD on August 31. The “Vampire Diaries’” first season premiere generated the largest audience in network history for a series debut with 5.7 million total viewers, and is The CW’s most-watched show. Based on the best-selling series of books by L.J. Smith, the show stars Nina Dobrev (“DeGrassi: The Next Generation”), Paul Wesley (“Fallen”) and Ian Somerhalder (“Lost”), Steven R. McQueen (“Everwood”), Sara Canning (“Smallville”), Katerina Graham (“17 Again”), Candice Accola (“Juno”), Zach Roerig (“Friday Night Lights”), Michael Trevino (“Cane”) and Matt Davis (“Legally Blonde, Blue Crush”). Executive produced by Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek,” Scream), Julie Plec (“Kyle XY”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and Bob Levy (“Gossip Girl,” “Privileged”), the series is from Bonanza Productions Inc., Outerbanks Entertainment and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios.
Of the 16 songs on the album, all were heard in the first season of “The Vampire Diaries” or will be featured in Season 2. Like the hit show, the soundtrack also has a hip yet darkly compelling and sensuous vibe. From cool cover songs, including Placebo doing Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” and Digital Daggers taking on Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels,” to the gorgeous vocals of “Sleep Alone” by Bat for Lashes to Sky Ferreira’s edgy dance-pop “Obsession,” The “Original Television Soundtrack: The Vampire Diaries” proves irresistible. “Obsession,” produced by Dave Tedder (OneRepublic, Beyoncé, Rihanna), is heard in the upcoming season of “The Vampire Diaries,” and is perfect for the show’s intense visuals and storylines, as Ferreira sings: “Here’s my confession, I don’t just want you to love me, I wanna be your [...]

Ian Somerhalder tops Robert Pattinson to become ‘Sexiest Beast’

HollywoodNews.com: Bite me, Edward Cullen. Damon Salvatore of “Vampire Diaries”–played to smirking perfection by Ian Somerhalder–has officially been declared the ultimate Sexiest Beast, beating out not only the ‘Twilight’ boys but the “True Blood” vamps, as well, in an extensive online tournament held by Entertainment Weekly following several internet campaigns and nearly 2 million total votes.
Somerhalder had previously tweeted his expectations that Pattinson would win out, saying, “That Pattinson guy will end up kicking my butt, however thanks for taking the time, that’s really cool : )” Following his victory, however, he reported from the “Vampire Diaries” set that all of his co-stars had taken to calling him by his rightful title.
Damon, as the winner, is featured on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly (along with several of the runner-ups, Edward included), and has his hotness further validated in a few steamy just-released “Vampire Diaries” Season 2 promotional pics.

Cast of ‘Vampire Diaries’ talks Season 2 at Comic-Con

By Whitney Milam
HollywoodNews.com: Those of us not lucky enough to witness the pop culture mecca of Comic-Con firsthand this week can at least take some solace in the fact that all the juicy panel tidbits are being consistently reported back to us. We’ve already seen the stunning Comic-Con “True Blood” preview, and now MTV gives us the scoop on the upcoming second season of our other favorite vampire show, “The Vampire Diaries” along with some hilarious bloopers.
All three of the players in the show’s vamp-human-vamp love triangle have some interesting thoughts on their characters. Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore), readily admits (to deafening cheers), “I take my clothes off all the time,” but his favorite scenes to play are those with “the fun, nutty kind of Damon…the nice Damon freaks me out. I don’t know how to do it well.” Series creator Kevin Williamson says simply that the question of whether Damon will revert to his old ways or continue on a path of redemption now that Katherine’s back won’t be “the easy answer,” and in any case, Somerhalder refuses to judge his character, saying only, “It’s an interesting journey.”
Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) fielded questions on which vampire kisses best with a statement that no fangirl could disagree with: “I’m the lucky one. I get to make out with them both.” She went on to muse about the appeal of each of the Salvatore brothers, saying, “Stefan is very attractive because he is protective and loves Elena unconditionally. And Damon is very attractive because he’s fun and spontaneous. Paul is a down to earth, fun, chill guy. Ian is exactly like his character.”
For his part, Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) has plenty of ideas as to where Stefan should go next, from joining a traveling circus to “indulging in the blood,” and says in all seriousness, “I’d love to do a flashback of Stefan in the 1980s dancing and having fun.”
“Vampire Diaries” returns in September–and if the leaked preview clip from the panel is any indication, fans are in for one bloody amazing ride.
