‘American Idol’ named #1 money-maker on TV

HollywoodNews.com: It’s good to be ‘American Idol’ as the show was reportedly TV’s #1 earner last year as it brought in some major money.
According to ‘Forbes,’ in 2010 ‘American Idol’ made about $7.11 million per half hour, states MTV. And while that may seem major, the amount is reportedly a 12% drop compared to 2009.
Coming in a distant second was Charlie Sheen’s show ‘Two and a Half Men’ that brought in $2.89 million per half hour.
Are you surprised ‘American Idol’ was so far ahead?

Adam Lambert rocks American Idol; Kris Allen nowhere to be found

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Remember Kris Allen, winner of Season 8 on “American Idol”? Neither does anyone else. Lambert performed on last week’s episode of Season 10, bringing the star’s reappearance count to three, compared to Allen’s one.
Lambert is more than just a favorite among “Idol” producers—he’s clearly a favorite among fans. His album debuted at #3, selling nearly 200,000 in its first week. (Allen’s album debuted at #11 on Billboard, and his single “Live Like We’re Dying” never rose higher than #18).
Whereas Lambert has already been nominated for a Grammy, Allen is bereft of music industry awards. Even with respect to popularity contests (both Lambert and Allen were nominated for Teen Choice Awards in 2009), where the two competed around the same nomination, Lambert won.
It begs the question: could the rumors have been true? Did the conservative Fox network really throw the contest out of Lambert’s favor? If current popularity is any indication, Lambert had what it took to have won Season 8.

“American Idol” live shows are pre-taped

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: “American Idol” is a strange beast, and has been for 10 seasons. It has a live component, but it needs to fit into a blueprint for prime-time television. Which explains – to a certain extent – why producers are pre-taping performances for the supposed live shows that have aired so far this season.
Tonight’s program, for instance, has been pre-taped.
“The singers pretaped their performances on Tuesday night after the Fox network confirmed that [tonight’s] show is not quite ready to go fully live,” MTV reports.
But this reportedly isn’t the first time this has happened. And the inclusion of 13 contestants makes it even tougher for the show to fit into its time slot and make roome for performances and judge comments.
“Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe explained on Twitter, “We are pretaping for 2 weeks as we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.”
Not sure insulting your fan base is the right move, but that’s neither here nor there. News of pre-taping certainly feeds Internet speculation that “Idol” is manipulated behind the scenes, though I don’t think it’s doctored to declare a winner. I think it’s doctored to fit a TV time slot so the next show can go on as planned.
The “Idol” season continues.

‘American Idol’s’ Chris Medina – heartbreaking story

HollywoodNews.com: For the first time in ten seasons, American Idol hit the midwest city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. What producers found in Milwaukee warmed the hearts of the TV audience.
Contestant Chris Medina told his tragic story on the show and has been embraced as not only a good singer, but an incredible human being. Medina was deeply in love with a Starbucks barista, whom he eventually became engaged to, until tragedy struck. His fiancee, Juliana was severely brain-damaged in a severe car accident mere months before the wedding. Now Medina spends his days caring for her and writing love songs to her with his band, according to MTV.com.

New ‘American Idol’ judges critiqued by former winner

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that the new ‘American Idol’ judges are doing a great job so far, at least if you ask one of the former winners of the competition.
Kris Allen has admitted that he completely approves of the new judges and what they have done so far, states Etidbits.com. However, Allen’s favorite was apparently Steven Tyler as he left him excited to see more of what he will do and say.
He also revealed that being judged by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez would be difficult as they have many, many years of experience in the industry.

Susan Boyle makes music history again with “The Gift”

HollywoodNews.com: Record-breaking Susan Boyle has made music history again by becoming the first female artist ever to have the double Number 1 album spot in the US and UK twice in less than 12 months.
The only other act to have achieved this in the history of music were the Beatles in 1969.
The highly anticipated album “The Gift,” from international singing sensation Susan Boyle, has entered both the official UK chart and the US Billboard 200 chart at Number 1, making it the fastest selling holiday album, on both sides of the Atlantic, in the SoundScan era.
In 2009, the “Britain’s Got Talent” star’s debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” became the biggest selling album in the world and fastest selling album in the history of the charts – selling over 10 million copies – and breaking all pre-order sales records on Amazon.
Simon Cowell said, “I’m thrilled for Susan, she has once again defied the odds. She is my superwoman.”
Susan Boyle said, “I’ve never felt happier in all my life. This is an amazing result and one I never expected.”

Fantasia Barrino’s depression dates back to 2004

Carrie Underwood suffers from panic attacks

HollywoodNews.com: Country singer Carrie Underwood has put her panic attack problems behind her. The newlywed may currently be on top of the world after her recent marriage to hockey player Mike Fisher, 30, but she admits that it has not always been that way.
The 27-year-old suffered from panic attacks in high school that were triggered when she was in close proximity to other people. She told WebMD the Magazine: “I’m a big personal space person, you know, if you go to the restroom, you use the stall that’s not near anybody or if you’re in the gym, you go to the treadmill where there’s space in between you. ”
And it seemed like in crowded situations like that, people would just completely violate your personal space.” Underwood added: “So, whenever I would be in stores and there would be people touching me and kids running around, I couldn’t take it and I’d have to leave.”
Although Carrie has put the stress problem to rest, she revealed that she found it hard to adjust to dealing with big crowds after she made it big on American Idol in 2005. She said: “It just took me a minute to be able to figure that out and to be able to allow people into my space.”
