Katie Couric being courted by other networks

HollywoodNews.com: Katie Couric is the belle of the TV news ball.
Turns out her contract with “CBS Evening News” is up at the end of May, and she’s being approached by a number of suitors. That’s not to say Couric will depart the Tiffany Network where she clears a $15 million paycheck a year. Page Six says that Couric “gets along famously with CBS boss Les Moonves.”
However, there’s buzz she could return to the “Today” show as Meredith Vieira is expected to leave to spend more time with her family. Couric was in talks with her old “Today” show boss Jeff Zucker, who produced the morning show and rose to be NBC-Universal CEO. However, Zucker’s recent departure apparently won’t derail any options for Couric.
Time Warner chairman Jeff Bewkes also lunched with Couric for a spot on CNN. The anchor’s profile rose significantly after interviewing 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, in which Couric exposed the candidate’s insufficiencies on a number of topics.
Couric received the Walter Cronkite Award for Journalism Excellence for the interview.
Steve Schmidt, John McCain’s senior presidential campaign strategist and advisor, looked back on the interview, exclaiming “I think it was the most consequential interview from a negative perspective that a candidate for national office has gone through.”

Museum of the Moving Image honors Katie Couric

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Matt Lauer told me right before the annual mid year dinner for the Museum of the Moving Image last night that he wasn’t going to “roast” honoree Katie Couric.
“Just lightly grill her,” he quipped.
Well, Matt did roast Katie, and he was pretty damned funny. The dinner also honored CNN chief Phil Kent, which meant that the room was filled with folks from CNN and CBS–lots of rumors about their merger and a lot of people denying it. On the CNN side: Anderson Cooper, Time Warner chief Jeff Bewkes, Wolf Blitzer. On the CBS side: “Evening News” producer Rick Kaplan, and Katie’s beau, Brooks Perlin. But no Les Moonves, which led to Lauer’s hysterical introduction.
