Jennifer Hudson to be honored for her artistic achievements and generosity as a philanthropist

The Recording Academy ® — the organization internationally known for the GRAMMY Awards®— will present its 2013 GRAMMYs on the Hill ® Awards in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, April 17 at the Hamilton . Known as “Washington’s most interesting mix of music and politics,” the event will honor GRAMMY® and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Hudson for her artistic achievements and generosity as a philanthropist.
“We are elated to recognize Jennifer Hudson as not only a gifted musician and actress but as an extraordinary humanitarian who has selflessly contributed her time and talent to numerous worthwhile causes,” said Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow. “She is one of the industry’s most enduring, giving and gifted women, and we are privileged to be honoring her artistry, her commitment, and her generosity.”
GRAMMYs on the Hill Awards: April 17
The GRAMMYs on the Hill Awards will take place on April 17 at the Hamilton with special guest presenters and performers, and will recognize Hudson with The Academy’s Recording Artists’ Coalition Award (named for The Academy’s artists’ rights program founded by Don Henley and Sheryl Crow). The event will include a cocktail reception and dinner preceding the awards ceremony, and will also thank key legislators who help improve the environment for music makers. Proceeds will benefit the GRAMMY Foundation®’s Signature Schools, which provides support for underserved music programs throughout the country, and a GRAMMY Foundation Signature School that has demonstrated excellence in music education will receive a grant to support its music initiatives. The evening is sponsored by SESAC.
GRAMMYs on the Hill Advocacy Day: April 18
The day after the Awards ceremony, The Recording Academy will host GRAMMYs on the Hill Advocacy Day, where hundreds of music professionals from across the country will visit with legislators to advance pro-music policies that improve the environment for music and its makers. Now in its eighth year, it is the music community’s only annual advocacy day in Washington, and features a morning briefing with keynote speeches by leading legislators and lobbying members of Congress on Capitol Hill.

“BLACK NATIVITY” will open wide in the US on November 2013

In a contemporary adaptation of Langston Hughes’ celebrated play, the holiday musical drama BLACK NATIVITY follows Langston (Jacob Latimore), a street-wise teen from Baltimore raised by a single mother, as he journeys to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives Reverend Cornell and Aretha Cobbs (Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett). Unwilling to live by the imposing Reverend Cobbs’ rules, a frustrated Langston is determined to return home to his mother, Naima (Jennifer Hudson).
Langston embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey and along with his new friends, and a little divine intervention, he discovers the true meaning of faith, healing, and family.

For the first time, viewers in the U.S. will be able to stream tonight’s Oscars show in its entirety across multiple platforms including ABC.com, the ABC Player app, and the free, ad-supported Hulu and Hulu Plus subscription service. The show will also be available via ABC On Demand, the network’s fast forward-disabled VOD service.
The Oscars, in its entirety, will be available to stream within hours of its broadcast completion, beginning Monday, Feb. 25th at 6:00 a.m. EST through Wednesday, February 27, at midnight EST.
“Tonight’s show included remarkable performances that will surely have people talking. This is an easy, convenient way for anyone who missed the show to catch up and join the conversation,” said Karin Gilford, Senior Vice President of Digital Media, ABC Entertainment. “It’s also perfect for anyone who just wants to relive the most magical moments of the night.”
“Our goal is to give fans as many ways to enjoy and engage with the Oscars as possible and this will provide another great opportunity for them,” said Christina Kounelias, the Academy’s Chief Marketing Officer.
The full streaming will be advertiser supported with :15 or :30 video spots running intermittingly from Blue Diamond, Diet Coke, Hyundai, JC Penney, Samsung and The University of Phoenix.
Additionally, during the telecast, Oscar.com offered a plethora of “Real Time Oscar Highlights” to viewers almost instantly after they debuted on the live broadcast. Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Crowe will sing at the Oscars

Academy Award® winners Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Crowe join this year’s Oscar® nominees Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway along with Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter in a celebration honoring movie musicals of the last decade, show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today.
“We are pleased to have been able to amass so much talent to create the celebration of musicals of the last decade that we envisioned,” said Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. “We are thrilled that so many talented actors have agreed to bring our vision to life.”
Earlier this month, the producers announced a planned tribute recognizing the resurgence of musicals over the past decade with performances highlighting “Chicago,” “Dreamgirls” and “Les Misérables.”

“Black Nativity,” starring Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Angela Basset

Fox Searchlight Pictures announced today that principal photography for the timeless holiday musical drama ‘BLACK NATIVITY’ began on January 29th in New York.
The film stars Academy Award® winner Forest Whitaker (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND), Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (WHAT?S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT), and Academy Award® and Grammy® winner Jennifer Hudson (DREAMGIRLS), along with actor and Grammy® nominee Tyrese Gibson (FAST FIVE), and RCA recording artist Jacob Latimore.
Additional cast includes Grammy® nominee Nas and Grammy® nominee Luke James. Kasi Lemmons (EVE?S BAYOU, TALK TO ME) directs from a screenplay she wrote based on the celebrated play of the same title written by American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist Langston Hughes. The music for BLACK NATIVITY will feature original lyrics and arrangements from Grammy® winning singer, songwriter and record producer Raphael Saadiq. The film is produced by William Horberg’s Wonderful Films, and Trudie Styler and Celine Rattray’s Maven Pictures, and will be financed, marketed and released worldwide by Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Jennifer Hudson not interested in losing more weight

HollywoodNews.com: Jennifer Hudson’s weight loss has gotten a lot of attention, but it sounds like she’s ready to shelve it.
Hudson recently revealed that she feels like she’s at a point where she is done losing weight, states UsMagazine.com. “I’m at the weight I want to be. But I hear all the time, ‘Don’t lose any more weight, you need to stop.’ People are under the impression that I’m still losing but I’m not,” Hudson told ‘Redbook.’
However, she still isn’t completely used in her body: “I’m getting used to my new self more than anything else. I got used to being plus-sized and knowing how to be that, whereas this is like, ‘Okay, who am I?’”

Jennifer Hudson not buying ‘American Idol’ feud

HollywoodNews.com: It has been reported that Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are not getting along while filming ‘American Idol,’ and while footage of the fighting was released, not everyone is buying it.
Former ‘Idol’ contestant Jennifer Hudson thinks the whole thing is being done for ratings, states TMZ. “I don’t believe it. I think it’s just for ratings for the show,” Hudson recently commented when asked about it.
Hudson has returned to ‘Idol’ a number of times since her time on the show. She most recently performed on the show back in April.

Jennifer Hudson to guest star on ‘Smash’

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ is taking over ‘Smash’ as former contestant Jennifer Hudson will be guest starring on the show starring other former contestant Katharine McPhee.
Hudson will reportedly guest star on an episode for the second season of the show, states E! News. NBC has announced that she will play “a Tony Award-winning Broadway star whose arrival will impact the lives of the show’s dueling Marilyns, Karen and Ivy.”
But she apparently won’t only be involved in the season premiere, but she will allegedly come back for a few episodes.

John Mayer talks staying out of the spotlight

HollywoodNews.com: After being all over the press due to relationships with Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer recently took a step back and kept his life private.
Now, the singer is opening up about his decision to finally stay out of the spotlight, states UsMagazine.com. “It was a very strange time and it sort of rocketed me into adulthood. It was a violent crash into being an adult,” Mayer said about being too open in the past.
But now, Mayer feels like he has found himself again and sorted things out: “For a couple of years it was just figuring it all out, and I’m glad I actually stayed out of the spotlight.”

Whitney Houston’s daughter allegedly wants to play her in biopic

HollywoodNews.com: Ever since Whitney Houston passed away this year, there has been a lot of talk of a biopic and which young star would get the leading role.
Now, it seems that Houston’s own daughter, Bobbi Kristina, wants to play her mother on the big screen, states TMZ. She reportedly feels like she knew her mother best and would be able to handle the role the best.
Other young stars like Jennifer Hudson and Rihanna have been rumored to be in consideration for a possible biopic.
