“Entourage’s” Rex Lee goes to “Suburgatory”

HollywoodNews.com: For seven seasons, he starred as Lloyd, the long-suffering assistant of Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) on Entourage. Rex Lee not only had a steady high-profile gig, but he broke ground as a gay Asian-American actor playing a gay Asian-American character in a major role.
He recently spoke to AfterElton.com about what a life-changing experience it all was: “In Hollywood vernacular I was what they call a ‘nobody’, and all of a sudden I was somebody that people knew. …One day nobody knew who I was, and the next day I was at Outfest… and all of a sudden I heard people talking behind me like, ‘that’s the guy from Entourage, I just saw him on TV the other day!’ And as quickly as that, my life was completely different.”
Now Rex has a new TV role on the freshman ABC comedy series Suburgatory as Mr. Wolf, a well-meaning guidance counselor at a suburban high school.
We wish him another long and successful run!

Hugh Grant aboard animated “Pirates!” pic for Sony

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Johnny Depp is an American actor living in France who affects a British accent to play a pirate on screen. Hugh Grant, on the other hand, is a British actor who has had great success in the States and will conjure an as-yet-unheard accent to voice the lead character in an animated pirate movie.
See the difference?
Sony announced today that Grant, who has not been seen on screen since 2009’s “Did You Hear About the Morgans?,” will lend his voice to the studio’s “The Pirates! In An Adventure with Scientists,” a stop-motion 3D animated film from the geniuses at Aardman Animations.
Such a strange title, but what a wonderful cast. In addition to Grant, “Pirates” has recruited David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, and Ashley Jensen, according to THR.
“I’m so grateful to the entire cast for their talent and energy. Only Hugh could anchor this story of love, loyalty, greed, and nautical high-jinks,” said director Peter Lord.
Columbia Pictures plans to release the animated film next March.

Chuck Lorre solidifying “Men” plans without Charlie Sheen

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: “Two and a Half Men” co-creator Chuck Lorre is taking the first steps to salvage his smash-hit sitcom in the wake of “Hurricane” Charlie Sheen … and it looks like Sheen will have no part to play in what comes next.
Instead, Lorre reportedly is planning to reboot the sitcom with original star Jon Cryer and a new character who has yet to be revealed. THR reports that Lorre “is said to have presented close associates and ‘Men’ co-star Jon Cryer with the plan, and the studio and network are aware of his intentions.”
Meanwhile, THR goes on to add that while CBS has not officially renewed the show for a ninth season, talent reps “say that Warners has quietly begun pursuing an actor to appear in the series next season,” and that speculation “has ranged from the plausible to the peculiar, with names from Woody Harrelson to Jeremy Piven to Bob Saget being bandied about.”

Elton John opens Tribeca with “Union,” free concert

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The 2011 Tribeca Film Festival is off and running, having opened last night with the premiere of “The Union.”
Directed by Cameron Crowe, “Union” tells how Elton John and his musical idol, Leon Russell, reunited after not speaking for decades. Previously, the men had collaborated on award-worthy tracks that actually appear on the soundtrack from Crowe’s new film.
In honor of the film’s premiere, John took to the piano and played a free concert for New Yorkers in attandance, and even played a few of the John-Russell collaborations that made it into the film.
“He’s got the accolades that he deserves and I am so proud of him,” John told the crowd, according to Reuters.
John also described Crowe’s filmmaking techniques to Reuters, calling them “uninvasive.”
“You know, you don’t notice him there after awhile, he’s got a knack of kind of appearing behind plants and things like that,” John joked.
Tribeca continues through the coming days, screening 41 documentaries and 52 narrative fiction films. Celebrity attendees should include Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell, Martin Scorsese, Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Piven and Ryan Phillippe.

Charlie Sheen’s latest replacement involves Jeremy Piven

HollywoodNews.com: Discussion of replacing Charlie Sheen on ‘Two and a Half Men’ is reportedly going on and now it sounds like Jeremy Piven’s name is being thrown in the ring.
Piven’s name is allegedly the next in line after Rob Lowe and John Stamos, who seem to be not interested, states RadarOnline.com. However, it sounds like CBS might want to talk to Piven first.
“No one connected in any way with Jeremy knows anything about this and that would include Jeremy,” Piven’s rep, Stan Rosenfeld, claimed.
Do you think Jeremy Piven would be a good replacement?

Miley Cyrus’ new BFF might be ‘Entourage’s’ Jeremy Piven

HollywoodNews.com: Apparently Miley Cyrus and Jeremy Piven might be the new Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox as the two seemed to have formed somewhat of a friendship.
Piven has been working with Cyrus on the film ‘So Undercover’ and admits that he was surprised how well they got along off the bat, states E! News.
“It was just so much fun. I had so much fun with her and we had great chemistry. It was really really weird—we’re like polar opposites,” Piven said about the time he has spent with Cyrus.
And he doesn’t really think anything of the drama that has surrounded her lately because she is so much more than that: “There’s something so incredibly refreshing about someone who is exactly who they are.”
Perhaps the fact that she is a little less squeaky clean helped them form a bond.
Can you see these two getting along?

Miley Cyrus “Undercover” comedy adds “Entourage,” “Glee” stars

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Miley Cyrus has some company underneath her covers.
Funny men Jeremy Piven and Mike O’Malley, television stars on “Entourage” and “Glee” respectively, have been cast in the Cyrus-centric action comedy “So Undercover,” according to Variety.
The film stars the crossover sensation as a street-smart private investigator who is hired by the FBI to infiltrate a sorority house, according to IMDB. Piven will play a special agent, while O’Malley would play Cyrus’ father.
“Undercover” continues Cyrus’ bid for movie stardom (outside of the “Hannah Montana” franchise). She’s expected to release a remake of a French comedy, “LOL,” before moving on to “Undercover.” She also tried her hand at romance with the Nicolas Sparks adaptation “The Last Song,” a screenplay written specifically for Cyrus by the best-selling novelist.

Sucked back in with ‘True Blood’s’ encore performance

By Malina Saval
HollywoodNews.com: There was nothing else on last night so I succumbed to an encore performance of Sunday’s episode of True Blood even though I swore I wouldn’t get sucked in this season (pun intended). The first year was brilliant, the second year was pretty cool because of all that orgiastic mayhem in the season’s finale, but from the looks of last night’s show, the third of this season, the show has become full-on camp. A few thoughts: Why in almost every episode does Sookie walk into a vampire bar as if she’s never been to one before and glance around the room like she’s clueless about vampires when she’s been hanging out with them for two seasons already? And, I know it’s a hick town in Louisiana, but why can’t wardrobe dress her in something that doesn’t look like it came from Forever 21? And, I don’t know, that Paquin and Moyer are engaged in real life kind of makes the whole set-up a little boring. But aside of all that, the storyline where vampire Bill (goes back in time to his wife before he was “made” into a vampire – he goes back to bury their dead son) seems pretty compelling. I think a truly awesome and romantic plot twist would be if, when Bill and Sookie are again reunited, he can’t shake his love for the old wife even though she’s about to be dead or turned into a vampire. The whole thing gets pretty confusing, and decides he can’t commit to Sookie even though they are newly engaged. You know, it could all be very Wings of the Dove.
On another note, I also caught this season’s Entourage Premiere, and the whole thing was quite silly as well. Everybody – Jeremy Piven (Ari Gold), Adrian Grenier (Vincent Chase) – seemed so self-conscious that these were roles they were playing, it as just a little over the top. But I have to say, the first episode of the season of any show is often a warm-up, so I’m sticking around for more. And I have to say, Jeremy Piven truly is a talent, playing the short, insecure, overwrought, Napoleanic Gold with deft skill. He sort of reminds me of a shorter, younger Chevy Chase back when Chevy Chase was funny and not just a mockery of himself. So I like Piven, I do, even if when I [...]

Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven kick off season 7 of ‘Entourage’

HollywoodNews.com: HBO’s hit show “Enourage,” starring Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, Scott Caan, Perrey Reeves, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Lenny Kravitz, Carla Gugino and Autumn Reeser kicked off season 7 at last night’s premiere event.
The show took over the Studios at Paramount and turned it into a huge nightclub, something familiar to the “Entourage” crew. Grenier even does his own skydiving stunts to which he replied, “It’s what we live for, to be able to make great illusions. The thing about ‘Entourage’ is everything we do is realistic. We go to the real places, we shoot on location. We get the real people. It’s a perfect marriage between fact and fiction,” reports The Envelope.
Piven who plays the famous Ari Gold on the show added, “I did. He’s a wonderful combination of indestructible and totally destructible at the same time. It’s a culmination of all the work coming together this year in the way that he finally merges these two companies, gets the power he wants, goes to the next level he wants and is about to seal the deal when his ways come back to bite him in the ass. He’s going to pay for how acerbic he is, and I can’t tell you too much, but he’s going to be taken down and his livelihood and his family are going to be put into jeopardy. As an actor those are the stakes you hope to play. So the humanity of his character is going to be revealed this year, and I’m just so thankful.”
