Kelley show, since it’s been moved to Wednesday nights opposite tough competition.

“We try not to think about that, but of course to some extent, you can’t avoid it,” notes Christopher McDonald, whose media hound lawyer character, Tommy Jefferson, becomes a full-time regular this season. “I miss our 10 o’clock Monday night thing. We’ll see how ‘Playboy Club’ does there. We’re up against Simon Cowell’s new show (“X Factor”), but I think our audience is a different audience,” he adds. They also must contend with “Modern Family” and “Criminal Minds.”

“Harry’s Law” returns Sept. 21, fortified by guest stars Jean Smart, as a prosecutor, and Alfred Molina, as a man accused of murdering his wife, in a three-episode storyline. Of the 48 Indie Spirit acting champs to contend the following day at the Oscars, only 10 of them have won there as well.

Last year, two of the four acting champs celebrated double victories — Best Actor Jeff Bridges (“Crazy Heart”) and Supporting Actress Mo’Nique (“Precious”). Spirit winner Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious”) lost the Best Actress Oscar to Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) while Woody Harrelson was defeated by Christoph Waltz (“Inglorious Basterds”). Two years ago, just one of the three Spirit winners in the running at the Oscars prevailed — Supporting Actress champ Penelope Cruz (“Vicky Christina Barcelona”). Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”) was edged out of Best Actor by Sean Penn (“Milk”) while Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”) lost Best Actress to Kate Winslet (“The Reader”). Spirits supporting actor winner James Franco (“Milk”) was not nominated at the Oscars.

The trend of the Spirits winner also contending at the Oscars dates back to the first Indies in 1985 when Geraldine Page (“The Trip to Bountiful”) won Best Actress with both groups. Since then, Frances McDormand (“Fargo,” 1996), Hilary Swank (“Boys Don’t Cry,” 1999), and Charlize Theron (“Monster,” 2003) have repeated in this race. The 11 Spirit Best Actress winners who lost at the Oscars were:

1987: Sally Kirkland (“Anna”) lost to Cher (“Moonstruck”);
1990: Angelica Huston (“The Grifters”) lost to Kathy Bates (“Misery”);
1995: Elisabeth Shue (“Leaving Las Vegas”) lost to Susan Sarandon (“Dead Man Walking”);
1997: Julie Christie (“Afterglow”) lost to Helen Hunt (“As Good As It Gets”);
2000: Ellen Burstyn (“Requiem for a Dream”) lost to Julia Roberts (“Erin Brockovich”);
2001: Sissy Spacek (“In the Bedroom”) lost to Halle Berry (“Monster’s Ball”);
2002: Julianne Moore (“Far From Heaven”) lost to Nicole Kidman (“The Hours”);
2004: Catalina Sandino Moreno (“Maria Full of Grace”) lost to Hilary Swank (“Million Dollar Baby”);
2005: Felicity Huffman (“Transamerica”) lost to Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”);
2007: Ellen Page (“Juno”) lost to Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”); and
2009: Gabourey Sidibe (“Precious”) lost to Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”).
Of the 15 Spirit Best Actor champs to compete at the Oscars only two — Bridges and Philip Seymour Hoffman (“Capote,” 2005) — prevailed there as well. The Spirit winners who were Oscar losers were:
1986: James Woods (“Salvador”) lost to Paul Newman (“The Color of Money”)
1988: Edward James Olmos (“Stand and Deliver”) lost to Dustin Hoffman (“Rain Man”);
1994: Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction”) lost supporting Oscar to Martin Landau (“Ed Wood”);
1995: Sean Penn (“Dead Man Walking”) lost to Nicolas Cage (“Leaving Las Vegas”);
1996: William H. Macy (“Fargo”) lost supporting Oscar to Cuba Gooding, Jr. (“Jerry Maguire”);
1997: Robert Duvall (“The Apostle”) lost to Jack Nicholson (“As Good As It Gets”);
1998: Ian McKellen (“Gods and Monsters”) lost to Robert Benigni (“Life is Beautiful”);
1999: Richard Farnsworth (“The Straight Story”) lost to Kevin Spacey (“American Beauty”);
2000: Javier Bardem (“Before Night Falls”) lost to Russell Crowe (Gladiator”);
2001: Tom Wilkinson (“In the Bedroom”) lost to Denzel Washington (“Training Day”);
2003: Bill Murray (“Lost in Translation”) lost to Sean Penn (“Mystic River”);
2006: Ryan Gosling (“Half Nelson”) lost to Forest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland”)
2008: Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”) lost to Sean Penn (“Milk”).

Of the Supporting Actress winners at the Spirits, three — Dianne Wiest (“Bullets Over Broadway,” 1994), Cruz and Mo’Nique — went on to win an Oscar. The eight Spirit winners who went down to defeat at the Oscars were:
1991: Dianne Ladd (“Rambling Rose”) to Mercedes Ruehl (“The Fisher King”);
1995: Mare Winningham (“Georgia”) to Mira Sorvino (“Mighty Aphrodite”);
1998: Lynn Redgrave (“Gods and Monsters”) to Judi Dench (“Shakespeare in Love”);
1999: Chloe Sevigny (“Boys Don’t Cry”) to Angelina Jolie (“Girl, Interrupted”);
2003: Shohreh Aghdashloo (“House of Sand and Fog”) to Renee Zellweger (“Cold Mountain”);
2004: Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”) to Cate Blanchett (“The Aviator”);
2005: Amy Adams (“Junebug”) to Rachel Weisz (“The Constant Gardener”); and
2007: Cate Blanchett (“I’m Not There”) to Tilda Swinton (“Michael Clayton”).

The only Supporting Actor to win both awards was Alan Arkin for “Little Miss Sunshine” in 2006. Angela Bromstad, President of Primetime Entertainment talked about Steve Carell’s replacement on The Office and a big event for Tina Fey’s comedy.

It’s been known for a few months that this season would be Carell’s last on The Office. Bromstad knew for a while though, so they planned ahead. “Greg Daniels and Paul Lieberstein do have a plan in terms of who is going to replace Michael [Scott],” Bromstad. “So there will be a lot of storylines leading up to that and there will be some mystery as to who that will be.”

Later, Bromstad added that the main issue of replacing Carell will be dealt with creatively on the show. Will Dunder Mifflin promote one of its own or hire somebody new? Likewise, will NBC promote one of the Office stars or bring in new blood. Either way, The Office isn’t going anywhere.

“Would we have ended ER when George Clooney left?” Bromstand postulated. “That would’ve been a shame so this is a tremendous ensemble cast. Like I said, we’ve known about it for some time and planned for it. I would be very sad to be ending the show and I couldn’t go home and face my 14-year-old son if The Office went off the air.”

30 Rock is doing a live episode this season. It’s probably more in Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels’ wheelhouse than filming the weekly episodes. “Tina’s up for it,” Bromstad said. “Coming from Saturday Night Live, Lorne and Tina are very up for it. We’re just doing as much as we can to garner attention for the shows and stay true to them creatively. Tina and Lorne agreed to it and we think it’s a great idea.”

It was NBC’s request for a live show, and there will be the standard delay of a few seconds in case of any FCC issues. Each time zone will get their own live broadcast. “You’ll see an east coast original and a west coast [version].”

NBC announced more comedy guest stars too. “Drew Carey on Community, Kathy Bates returning to The Office and Rob Lowe has joined the cast of Parks and Recreation as a regular.”

But that wasn’t the only show to catch their eye: HBO’s miniseries “The Pacific” harpooned 24 nods.

In years past, the Emmys use to favor those series which were on the air for seasons on end, often times honoring them later in their run. But in recent years, the organization has become open minded to frosh shows, evident in its embrace of Fox’s “Glee,” ABC sitcom “Modern Family,” CBS’ “The Good Wife” and Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.”

That said, the Emmys continue to have its favorites, i.e. “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad” and “30 Rock.”

The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards will air on August 29 on NBC with Jimmy Fallon hosting from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. For the first time in 30 years, the awards show will air live all over the nation.

In terms of those series that aired season finales, Emmy voters favored ABC’s “Lost” in the top categories over Fox’s “24.”

New shows predominantly received some love in the supporting actor categories which saw a majority of the “Modern Family” cast in competition: Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara were recognized. “Glee” co-stars Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer received nods. “Good Wife” co-star Christine Baranski was lauded.

The nominees for best reality included CBS’ “The Amazing Race,” Fox’s “American Idol,” ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” Bravo’s “Project Runway” and “Top Chef.”

Among those in the best variety, music or comedy series slot, Conan O’Brien from NBC’s “Tonight Show” will vie against seven-time winner Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” as well as “The Colbert Report,” HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”

Some outlets are reporting a reduced number of snubs, but that’s not true, for they abounded — greatly. TNT’s drama-edy “Men of a Certain Age” and its leading man Ray Romano were shut out of the drama and best actor categories (though co-star Andre Braugher earned a supporting actor nod). FX’s “Justified” was unjustly not recognized. ABC’s comedy “Cougar Town” and leading gal Courteney Cox didn’t find a destination on the list. And HBO’s “Treme” and “Big Love” were overlooked. Please let us know what favorite shows of yours weren’t honored.

Below is a list of Emmy nominees in major categories for the 2010 Emmy Awards announced Thursday by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences:

Drama Series: “Breaking Bad,” AMC; “Dexter,” Showtime; “The Good Wife,” CBS; “Lost,” ABC; “True Blood,” HBO; “Mad Men,” AMC.

Comedy Series: “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” HBO; “Glee,” Fox; “Modern Family,” ABC; “The Office,” NBC; “Nurse Jackie,”
Showtime; “30 Rock,” NBC.

Miniseries: “The Pacific,” HBO; “Return to Cranford (Masterpiece),” PBS.

Made-for-TV Movie: “Endgame (Masterpiece),” PBS; “Georgia O’Keeffe,” Lifetime; “Moonshot,” History; “The Special Relationship,” HBO; “Temple Grandin,” HBO; “You Don’t Know Jack,” HBO.

Actor, Drama Series: Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad,” AMC; Michael C. href="http://www.hollywoodnews.com">Hollywoodnews.com: Despite the lukewarm reviews that Woody Allen’s latest comedy “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” has received out of Cannes, the helmer continues to habitually churn out one film annually.

The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody will join Allen’s latest romantic comedy production “Midnight in Paris” which already boasts a top-shelf cast of Owen Wilson, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates and Michael Sheen as well as the first lady of France Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

“Midnight” begins lensing this summer in Paris, of course.

Brody and Wilson previously starred together onscreen in “the Darjeeling Limited.” Brody can next be seen in the Warner Bros. sci-fi thriller “Splice” on June 4
