‘Housewives of NJ’ address homosexuality

HollywoodNews.com: The ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ got a little more serious last night as the episode focused on the topic of homosexuality.
Many of the women in the cast addressed the issue as Caroline Manzo’s brother had a civil union ceremony with his partner while Kathy Wakile’s sister spoke about her experience as a gay woman, states RadarOnline. Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe were at the civil union ceremony when Joe said something that continued to offend many.
Joe decided to tell a story about the closest her came to a homosexual experience: “When I was a kid, me and my friend were hanging out in my pool, and we’re talking about whose got a bigger p*nis. We end up somehow taking our p*nis’ out and seeing whose got a bigger p*nis! So now we’re both lying next to each other, we both have our p*nises out like two gays, and he probably beat me like by an inch.”
However, Kathy and her sister showed a much more positive side as Kathy commented to Rosie in New Jersey, “You should never be afraid to be who you are — and never be afraid that your family’s not going to love you.”

Anderson Cooper to return to host New Year’s Eve with Kathy Griffin

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: Don’t know about you, but I would rather watch paint dry than see Ryan Seacrest host ABC’s “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
Ryan is cute and good at what he does but I want some laughs and some chemistry and over at CNN, the team of Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin absolutely has it in spades.
It has just been announced that the suave Silver Fox and the wild and crazy redhead and Anderson said in a statement: “Once again, I’m terrified to be co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve show with Kathy Griffin. It’s often bitterly cold, and yet after being with her for a few minutes on live television, I find myself drenched in sweat.”
Hmmm. Could he be talking about what happened in 2008 when Kathy, throwing to a commercial, responded to a Times Square heckler by yelling, “I don’t go to your job and knock the d—s out of your mouth.”
Last year, she dropped an F-bomb live on air while trying to pronounce the last name of the “Balloon boy” family.

TIFF ’10: Keira, Carey and Andrew in Mark Romanek’s “Never Let Me Go”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: This is it. My last entry in the ongoing “Road to Toronto” feature before I board a plane and head north for the madness that is the 35th Toronto International Film Festival.

The fest begins Thursday, and I’ll be reporting regularly from the wilds of the Great White North. To read my previous preview columns, punch “TIFF” into our search window. Today, Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan and the boy who will be Spider-Man come to terms with some harsh truths about their past, their present, and their uncertain future.
Never Let Me Go

The Plot: Kathy, Tommy and Ruth live in a world and a time that feel familiar to us, but are not quite like anything we know. They spend their childhood at Hailsham, a seemingly idyllic English boarding school. When they leave the shelter of the school and the terrible truth of their fate is revealed to them, they must also confront the deep feelings of love, jealousy and betrayal that threaten to pull them apart.
The Director: Mark Romanek (“One Hour Photo”)
The Cast: Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield, Carey Mulligan, Charlotte Rampling, Sally Hawkins
The Scoop: From what I hear, the less you know about “Never” going into it, the better off you’ll be. We do know it’s based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s beloved novel, and that it has serious talent involved at almost every creative turn. Romanek impressed critics by leading Robin Williams down dark corridors in “Photo,” and may have patiently awaited his feature-length follow up. The film has started to play festivals, but has split critics. The ones that like it really, really love it. The rest find it cold and detached. I find out on Thursday evening. It can’t get here soon enough.
Awards Potential: It will be very hard to speculate on “Never” until it’s seen, and early word isn’t helping place the film’s chances. If the picture catches on with a strong contigent of Academy voters, top categories like Best Picture and Director for Romanek certainly are a possibility. It sounds like Knightley is given the most chance to shine in the film, while Mulligan and Garfield give internal performances. Alex Garland certainly has a shot at an Adapted Screenplay Oscar if the script connects, and technical categories seem like safe bets. Rachel Portman’s score, for example, is getting a lot of early praise. More on “Never” as the film continues to screen.

Kathy Griffin called a “foul-mouthed minor celebrity”…

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: She’s had a New York Times bestseller, won two Emmys, appears frequently for the full hour on Larry King Live and can sell out the biggest concert venues in the country from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood to NYC’s Madison Square Garden.
And yet there’s a writer over at The Wrap.com who dismissed Kathy Griffin this week as a “foul-mouthed minor celebrity.’
Steve Pond made this remark in a column previewing next month’s Emmys and the category of Outstanding Reality Program.
It is true, as he writes, that “year after year, this is the oddest, strangest, most diverse and most perplexing Emmy category of all, in which shows go head-to-head against competitors with whom they have virtually nothing in common.”
Griffin has won two of the last four years for her Bravo series ‘Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List’ and made major headlines when during her 2007 speech she said: “Suck it Jesus. This award is my God now.”

Kathy Hilton sympathizes with Dina Lohan

HollywoodNews.com: Paris Hilton’s mom sympathizes with Dina Lohan, as she knows what it’s like to have a daughter in prison.
Lindsay Lohan, 24, is serving a 90-day sentence in the same California prison that Paris Hilton, 28, was locked up in three years ago.
Paris’s mom Kathy told RadarOnline.com: “I have sympathy for Dina Lohan right now. I feel bad for any parent whose child is in jail, it can be really tough. Those days when Paris was in jail were some of the most difficult of my life – it is hard for any parent to deal with. Unfortunately, if you do not follow the rules then this is what can happen – it’s part of the rules of our society.”
She added: “I think Lindsay will learn from this experience. To be in a small cage like that by yourself certainly gives you time to think about things. And for the parent on the outside it is very hard, too.”

Janet Jackson joins Kathy Ireland for Make-a-Wish drive

By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
HollywoodNews.com: Super model-turned-lifestyle design mogul Kathy Ireland has a jammed schedule in the next few weeks, including a mission trip to Honduras, flights to New York for business, and a family trek to Portland, Oregon – but she’s making time to front a campaign for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, along with champion ballroom dancer Chelsea Hightower and style guide Bobbie Thomas. The Allergan company, makers of Latisse eyelash-growing solution, are offering matching funds for donations under each of the ladies’ team banners.
“In this economy, all the nonprofits are being impacted. Every time a business folds, there’s a ripple effect,” she points out. “So to see a company like Latisse put their money where their mouth is, it’s really inspiring.” Among the names who’ve been inspired to support Kathy’s Make-a-Wish drive are Elizabeth Taylor, Janet Jackson, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., and Tony Dovolani, the “Dancing With the Stars” pro who partnered with Kathy a couple seasons back. The philanthropy-minded Ireland has been involved for 16 years with the organization that grants wishes for children with life-threatening ailments, and remains friendly with the family of the first Make-a-Wish kid she ever got to know – a boy she’s happy to report is still around today “and just awesome.” She adds, “For a child, being able to have a wish fulfilled during their most difficult time can be more important than people can imagine.”
Ireland’s $1.4 billion design empire includes some 15,000 products, from flooring and furniture to ceiling fans and florals, online greeting cards, jewelry and skin care. She admits, “I probably don’t sleep as much as I should and I don’t recommend that.” She recently released her “Real Solutions for Busy Moms” book, in which she talked about shedding 25 lbs of excess weight that had crept onto her body as she was carrying on an overworked, overwhelmed lifestyle. Has she been able to keep off the weight?

Kathy Griffin’s ‘My Life on the D-List’ back with Liza Minnelli

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: The legendary Liza Minnelli will appear on the sixth season premiere of “Kathy Griffin: My Life On the D List” tonight because Kathy’s show just isn’t gay enough already.
Ha!
Apparently this is how Liza is worked into the episode. Kathy, as we know, was cast in a guest spot on “Law & Order: SVU.” Since she hadn’t acted in awhile, she calls the Oscar-winning Liza for advice.
Kathy’s nervous but before she has a nervous breakdown, Kathy rushes to see Liza, and the experience is both A-List and encouraging.

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: I love when Kathy Griffin has something to promote because this girl knows how to flog the heck out of her projects!
Whether it’s a Grammy-nominated album (For Your Consideration and Suckin’ It For the Holidays) best selling book (Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin), or one of her many TV appearances, Kathy will chat up every major talk show host who will book her and do lots of interviews.
She may be a major star, but she still works as if she’s forever on the D-List.
