Twilight’s Peter Facinelli fitting in “Loosies” before “Breaking Dawn”

By Kim Palacios
Much like the other stars of Twilight, Peter Facinelli is making good use of his time before shooting begins for the final two Twilight films. Unlike the other stars, however, Facinelli’s project is one of his own making—he wrote the “Loosies” screenplay himself.
Though “Loosies” is currently filming in Providence, the Queens-born actor’s story is set in New York. Facinelli plays in the starring role of Bobby, a city native whose mother believes him to be a Wall Street banker. Yet, when he gets on the subway in the morning, that’s where he stays—riding the rails and picking pockets.
But don’t be fooled by his moral transgressions—it turns out that Bobby’s life of crime holds a nobler intent. Through the course of the story, the audience learns that he steals in order to pay his long-departed father’s old gambling debts.
The central conflict of the story arises when Bobby comes across Lucy, a one-night stand who claims she’s pregnant with his child. Bobby, of course, must choose a path—continue down the wrong road or redeem himself by becoming a responsible father.
Early feedback on the film (based on early interviews and sneak peeks of the first days of shooting) says Facinelli fans won’t be disappointed. Unlike the angsty vampire films, “Loosies” is a comedy-drama, and Facinelli’s natural, dark, foxy looks won’t be covered up with pale makeup and blond hair, as they are in Twilight.

Julia Roberts: Elle’s September Cover Girl

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: Julia Roberts is widely rumored to be slated for the U.S. and several international editions of Elle Magazine’s September cover, exposure that will cap a high-profile year for the actress and help promote her new movie. The 42-year old actress will star in August’s film rendition of Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir “Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia”. She will play the 34-year old Gilbert, who embarked on a yearlong trip of self-discovery following a disappointing marriage that culminated in a devastating divorce.
Despite the age difference between the actress herself and the “Eat, Pray Love” protagonist, Roberts continues to hold her own playing characters whose implied ages are in their thirties. Named as the World’s Most Beautiful Person in the 2010 People Magazine rankings, Roberts has proven her worth as an icon of beauty and classic style. It’s no surprise, then, that Roberts can hold her own as a cover girl for a magazine like Elle, which has shown a trend of showcasing a series of younger starlets for its cover story repertoire.

Robert Pattinson’s short film “The Summer House” dominates iTunes

By Kim Palacios
Robert Pattinson’s 2008 short film, “The Summer House” dominated iTunes immediately following its recent release, topping movie sales charts in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and Germany after a mere four hours. The July 13th iTunes release marked the first occasion on which the film had been distributed for mass consumption, having only been run on the festival circuit during the prior year.
The film is an adaptation of a coming-of-age story in which a teenage girl (Jane) summering at an aunt’s chateau in rural France discovers the complexity of romantic relationships—both those of certain family members, as well as her own. Rob plays the role of 18-year-old Richard, the love interest of Jane. Having broken up with her to date another woman prior to her departure for the summer, once dumped by the other, he appears unexpectedly at Jane’s retreat to win her back. Through a series of benign advances (e.g., love letters) and other more forceful attempts, he pushes Jane to come farther into herself.
Having been shot just prior to the release of “Twilight”, “The Summer House” will be regarded as one of Pattinson’s early works, though by the time he played in “The Summer House”, Pattinson had already acted in other major Hollywood films. The release comes just in time for fans craving more of the international mega-star, whose media exposure has fallen off sharply since the release of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”.

Whoopi Goldberg: stoned on “The View”

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: “The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg shocked audience members and co-hosts on Monday when she arrived to the show stoned on prescription drugs. The actress/comedienne had rushed to the studio to fulfill her commitment despite having just been on a long flight—one on which she overdid it on the anti-anxiety medication she takes to cope with a dislike of flying.
Self-medicating for flights is nothing out-of-the ordinary for Goldberg (nor for many others who dislike traveling by plane). Yet, it’s not clear how or why, in this case, the seasoned traveler would take enough medication to get her high. The actress had been in Vienna, Austria for an AIDS benefit that occurred in conjunction with the 18th annual International AIDS Conference. The briefest flights from Vienna to New York are rarely shorter than nine hours—plenty of time for a standard dosage of anti-anxiety meds to wear off.
Though co-hosts may have been perturbed by her behavior during Monday’s episode, Goldberg herself was all smiles. Between giggling fits so severe they stopped her mid-sentence, and a few random ramblings, the star appeared to be having a ball.

‘Twilight’ stars Kellan Lutz and Boo-Boo Stewart to co-star in werewolf-centric “Guardians of Luna”

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: It has just been announced that “Eclipse” stars Kellan Lutz (vampire Emmet Cullen) and Boo Boo Stewart (wolfpacker Seth Clearwater) will join the cast of “Guardians of Luna,” reports Cybergraphix Animation. In the straight-to-DVD feature anime film, Stewart will play Jake Segerstrom; Lutz’s character has not been announced.
The film comes in the wake of a 2008 television series with the same name (also produced by Cybergraphix Animation and distributed by FUNimation Entertainment). Though the story does not feature vampires, some plot lines are similar to those found in The Twilight Saga, including the presence of “good” and “bad” camps of supernaturals (werewolves in this case), and inter-species partnerships bound together by the will to protect something important (in this case, an ancient power source).
The “Guardians of Luna” project won’t represent the first time Twilight stars have worked together on separate projects. Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning recently co-starred as rockers Joan Jett and Cherie Curry in “The Runaways”. The film rendition of “Guardians of Luna” is described as containing themes of “dark action” and will release in 2011.

Twilight’s Taylor Lautner turns down X-Men role

By Kim Palacios
Though approached by producer Bryan Singer to take a prominent role in “X-Men: First Class” it has been confirmed that Twilight’s Taylor Lautner turned the part down.
“I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did,” Singer said to Blastr. “He’s doing a movie in Pittsburgh called “Abduction”, and then he’s got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot. He is a friend. And I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.”
As with all the Twilight actors, Lautner’s commitment to film “Breaking Dawn” this fall and into next year will mean that his dance card is full, a factor that played into lengthy negotiations that stalled the final Twilight Saga film’s contracting progress this year. Actors Lautner, Stewart, and Pattinson are believed to have done well, compensation-wise, for the final Twilight films. Yet, other actors griped about comparatively low pay at a high opportunity cost.
Having spent months at a time for years in a row tied up in filming and promoting the Twilight films, the younger actors have gained exposure among the Twilight fan base but may have turned down roles that would have broadened their careers. The Twilight empire may have catapulted all the actors to international fame, but it is likely that most actors in the films are ready to move on.

Lindsey Lohan to appear in sexy GQ Germany photo shoot

By Kim Palacios
Lindsey Lohan is trying desperately to change her image in time to avoid a 90-day trip to jail. But her sexy cover and extended photo shoot with GQ Germany isn’t likely to help. The August issue features beach shots of Lohan in a variety of skimpy bikinis; in one particularly suggestive photo, the starlet’s nudity is hidden by nothing but a guitar.
Lohan’s jail sentence is scheduled to commence on July 20th—this coming Tuesday—a consequence of the actress’ failure to adhere to the terms of an earlier (more lenient) sentence following a DUI. She fired her attorney last week after hearing the decision that jail time would be necessary, and has been working ever since to turn her “bad girl” image around.
The GQ shoot may undermine this effort, as the star shows as more vixen-like than innocent. Lohan’s people must straddle a delicate balance of portraying her as too young and naive for jail, while also conveying that the star is capable enough to reform and repent outside of incarceration. The latest play has been to shuttle Lohan to an inpatient rehabilitation facility as quickly and visibly as possible. The actress’ new legal team will appeal the decision on the grounds that Lohan is making progress in rehab, and assert that placing her in jail (where her celebrity will find her ostracized) would not only be cruel but would interrupt solid progress.

Twilight “Breaking Dawn” to film in Baton Rouge and Vancouver

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: During the June 24th Red Carpet Premiere of “Eclipse”, producer Wyck Godfrey leaked that he and Bill Condon were set to location scout in Louisiana for “Breaking Dawn”. In all the excitement about “Eclipse”, the fact that scouting was set to take place outside of the Pacific Northwest was swept under the rug. Yet, a recent press release from Summit Entertainment revived the dormant story, confirming not only that Louisiana was a location of interest, but that filming would take place in southern locales.
The press release was sparse, saying only that the final installments of the Twilight Saga would be “filmed in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Vancouver, [Canada] over the next year starting this fall.” It went on to reiterate previously known facts, such as the November 18th, 2011 release date of the next film and confirmation that “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two.
Bringing filming to Louisiana will be a boon to the economically compromised state (and, to a lesser degree, to states along entry and exit routes that fans will use to make pilgrimages to the set). Decimated first by Hurricane Katrina, which made landfall nearly five years ago, the region’s financial crisis has endured as a consequence of the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A “Breaking Dawn” filming effort will allow the region to recapture some of the lost income that came in the wake of destruction.

“America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan beats Ryan Seacrest for Larry King job

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: It seems that Britain’s got talent–or at least that’s what CNN thinks, having chosen U.K.-born media veteran Piers Morgan to replace Larry King. The New York Post posits that Morgan even beat out mega-host Ryan Seacrest for the job in a 3-year deal worth an estimated $18 million.
Morgan was relatively unknown to U.S. audiences prior to his appearance on Donald Trump’s first “Celebrity Apprentice”. After prevailing as the winner, he has remained on American radar through his position alongside judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel on “America’s Got Talent”.
Yet, many are wondering: does Morgan have talent? In the U.S., people know him based on his celebrity only, and are less aware of his credentials as former editor of two British tabloids, News of the World and The Daily Mirror; prior to his editorial appointment to News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, Morgan spent four years writing a show business column for The Sun. He began his television career as a judge on “Britain’s Got Talent” and did some hosting gigs with the BBC. Morgan studied journalism at Harlan College, and wrote for local papers prior to being discovered.
Though Morgan is more credentialed than people think, it has not escaped notice that contenders for CNN’s 9PM Larry King slot were unlikely bedfellows. Katie Couric turned down the job, yet her decades-long career in news journalism seems misaligned with the shorter careers and entertainment focus of both Morgan and Seacrest.

Muse band member admits to selling his soul to headline Twilight “Eclipse” album

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme finally confessed to what many fans were already thinking—that the band sold its soul to record the headlining single on the soundtrack for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”. The track, “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)”, is a huge diversion from the band’s library of edgy and otherwise sophisticated songs. Said the rocker to BBC’s Newsbeat, “I’m not sure how cool it is to be on those kind of things but sometimes you’ve just got to get your music out there in different ways.”
The lyrics tell the tale. Even other Muse songs used in earlier Twilight films are not as watered down as the “Eclipse” film headlining track. Whereas “Supermassive Black Hole” (which was heard on the “Twilight” movie soundtrack) uses quantum physics as a metaphor for tortured love, “Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)” repeats the same set of pedestrian lyrics (“Our love would be forever. And if we died, we’d die together”) over and over.
“It’s very difficult in America because you don’t have anything like Radio 1, nothing is national,” continued the star. “You have to take every opportunity you get over there and sometimes you have to sell your soul.”
