Lauren Bacall upset over Truman Capote oral sex comment

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: I’m working my way through the giant Hollywood Issue of ‘Vanity Fair’ which is always a real feast.
One of the articles I read over the weekend was a lengthy profile of Lauren Bacall, the 86-year-old screen legend (‘To Have and Have Not,’ ‘The Big Sleep,’ ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’) and Broadway star (‘Applause,’ ‘Woman of the Year,’ ‘Cactus Flower’).
She’s always been a pistol and remains so. The ‘Vanity Fair’ piece does expose Bacall’s contradictions particularly when it comes to her late first husband, the great movie icon Humphrey Bogart with whom she had two children, starred opposite in in four classic films, and was married to until his death from cancer in 1957. (She was later engaged to Frank Sinatra and married to Jason Robards with whom she has a son).
Anyway, Bacall becomes irritated in the ‘Vanity Fair’ article when the interviewer, Matt Tyrnauer, brings up a story spread by Truman Capote. The ‘In Cold Blood’ author is quoted as saying “I gave Bogie a blow job one night” to settle a bet. Capote said after he beat Bogart at arm wrestling three times, “he went upstairs with me, unbuttoned his pants and took it out for me.”
Says Bacall: “Oh, please. You must be joking. I never heard that. Why you bring up a thing like that? What kind of a mind do you have? Step out of the gutter. … Maybe it was a pipe dr

Oscars: Two Possible Upsets Annette Bening and Geoffrey Rush

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Oscar ballots went out this week to Academy members. “The King’s Speech” seems like a lock for Best Picture. There are also some definites: Colin Firth for Best Actor, Melissa Leo for Best Supporting Actress. But what’s still fluid and in flux? Judging by past voting trends, there are two possible upsets: Best Supporting Actor and Best Actress.
In the former, Christian Bale was superlative as Dicky in “The Fighter.” But dial back to 1997 and “The English Patient.” Betting money had Lauren Bacall winning Best Supporting Actress for “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” The Hollywood legend had never won an Oscar, and there was a lot of support and sentiment for her. But “The English Patient,” like “The King’s Speech,” was a tsunami. It pulled Juliet Binoche in, surprising Bacall and her fans.
This could happen again. With Firth, the movie, and the original screenplay very solid, “The King’s Speech” may pull along Geoffrey Rush. Before Bale was on the scene, everyone thought Rush was a lock for Best Supporting Actor. It’s a long shot, but who knows? There are those who think Rush was equal to Firth in “The King’s Speech.” They may check off his name at the last minute. I wouldn’t blame them.

In Best Actress, Natalie Portman has lots of awards for “Black Swan.” She’s young, cute, and pregnant. She’ll have a long career. But there are plenty in the Academy who remember Annette Bening’s performances in “American Beauty” and “Being Julia,” her two best prior Oscar shots before “The Kids Are All Right”, as well as “The Grifters.” This should have been her year. How many times do we expect this woman to go through Oscar campaigns and come out a loser? Not only that: imagine the irony of Firth and Bening, who once co-starred in the dreadful “Valmont,” emerging together as winners years later. It’s delicious.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum fall into ’21 Jump Street’

HollywoodNews.com: Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are set to star in a contemporary motion picture adaptation of “21 Jump Street,” it was announced today by Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures. Hill and Tatum are executive producers on the project, which will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Michael Bacall based on a treatment from Hill and Bacall. Neal H. Moritz will produce the film with Stephen J. Cannell, who will receive posthumous credit.
Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad said, “Jonah helped create a smart and funny vehicle that is tailor-made for him and Channing. They are a perfect duo for this film and Phil and Chris have a terrific, accessible take on the material. We love how this movie has come together and are very excited to begin production this spring.”
Hannah Minghella and Jonathan Kadin are overseeing production for the film on behalf of the studio.
An early hit for Fox Broadcasting, “21 Jump Street” focused on young cops with youthful appearances who work undercover in high schools and colleges. The popular series starred Johnny Depp and several other young stars and hit home with the network’s key teen demographic from 1987-1991.

Hollywood Money Manager Ken Starr still in jail despite attempts to get bail

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Ken Starr is still in jail today, despite attempts to get bail. The imprisoned money manager is charged with defrauding dozens of celebrity clients of at least $59 million. Some of the names include Uma Thurman, Carly Simon, Al Pacino, Neil Simon, Lauren Bacall and Mike Nichols.
The government is building its case against Starr and looking for his assets. They might be interested to know that Starr has four automobiles that might not have been on anyone’s list.
Recently an auto insurance company sent out a letter because Starr was behind on his payments. The cars are a 2010 Yukon Denali, and three Mercedes.
The Denali is the most interesting because its policy carried the name of another driver. That driver, it’s suspected, may have been chauffeuring around Marisa Starr, Ken’s ex wife and mother of his two younger children. The Starrs divorced in May 2007. As I reported a few weeks ago, Marisa Starr got a very nice settlement package from her ex: $750,000 a year in perpetuity, plus a possible extra cash lump sum settlement and a $2,500 a week salary from Starr & Co. investment advisers.
“She knows where all the bodies are buried,” says a source.
Marisa Starr’s divorce arrangement with Ken Starr should be of interest to prosecutors. Even though the couple was divorced, Marisa was still living like she married to Starr.

Jailed Celeb Money Manager Gave Ex Wife $750K a Year

By Roger Friedman
hollywoodnews.com: Ken Starr sits in a downtown Manhattan jail, accused of stealing at least $60 million from his celebrity clients like Neil Simon, Carly Simon, Uma Thurman, Mike Nichols, Lauren Bacall and possibly Michael Douglas’s ex wife, Diandra.
His fourth and current wife, Diane Passage, remains in limbo, sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and rendered an object of vulnerability by paparazzi and tabloids because she was once a part time stripper at Scores.
But there’s a lot we don’t know yet, and neither does Passage, according to friends.
For example, she just confirmed in the last week that she was Wife No. 4, not Number 3. When she married Starr in 2007, he told her he had just two exes–Gail, mother of his son, Ronald, 41, who also runs his companies; and Marisa Vucci, 46, mother of his two younger daughters.
I am told that Starr, 66, has recently owned up to Wife No. 2, Sheila G. Starr, a real estate agent on the Upper West Side with Prudential Douglas Elliman. They divorced in 1991. Sheila Starr, whom I spoke with, is lovely but refuses to answer questions about her marriage. When I asked her if she was surprised about her ex-husband’s arrest, she said, “Yes.”
More interesting, though, is Marisa Starr, who’s been painted as a victim in the Starr saga. Sources say that Diane Passage has only recently learned that Ken was still married to Marisa when Passage became engaged to him in 2006.
Even more interesting: Starr and Marisa only signed their divorce agreement on May 9, 2007–just two weeks before Starr’s marriage to Passage. And Marisa, mother of Starr’s two daughters, got quite a nice send off. She receives $750,000 a year for an unspecified amount of time. There’s no cap on it. In addition, sources say she was still receiving $2,500 a week from Starr and Company until Ken was arrested on May 27th.
“Plus she got a lump sum that’s not on the books,” claims a source close to Passage about the former Marisa Vucci.
Both Sheila Starr and Marisa Vucci Starr may prove to be of some interest to investigators and prosecutors. The period of time they covered with Ken Starr is simultaneous to some of his most twisted business dealings including his handling of the estate of Arthur Stanton and advising of his widow, Joan Stanton, who died last year. Earlier this year Starr settled a [...]

Well, look no further than his longtime partner Vanessa Paradis to set the record straight. What makes her intimate life with Mr. “Pirates of the Caribbean” work is “love, respect, patience and old movies” according to Digital Spy.
“We like watching old movies with Bogart and Bacall and Jean Gabin and Alain Delon” adds the French actress.
Recently, the duo have decided to work together.
Depp confirmed “It’s called ‘My American Lover.’ Vanessa plays the French feminist Simone de Beauvoir and I play her lover Nelson Algren.”
