‘Experts looking ahead to “The Hunger Games” wondering if the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel has the ability to fill “Twilight’s” massive box office shoes have a little more indication of just how big the March 23 opening looks to be.
Fandango reports that “Hunger Games” tickets, which went on advanced sale earlier this week, broke the previous first day advance ticket-seller record held by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which was set on Friday, May 14, 2010.
“‘The Hunger Games’ is off to a fantastic start,” said Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango, in a release. “We saw the biggest first day advance ticketing sales in our company’s nearly 12-year history – which is especially impressive for a March release and a non-sequel.”
The site reports that theater owners are continuing to add new showtimes, while fans are scooping up advance tickets.

Lenny Kravitz Does Some Good!

HollywoodNews.com: Lenny Kravitz – GRAMMY award-winning singer-songwriter, record producer and actor—is using his voice and talent to do more than dazzle the stage and screen. He is throwing his support behind the global push by UNICEF and its partners to help save and improve the lives of millions of children and their families around the world by providing them with access to clean water and adequate sanitation.
“I was born in New York City and have always taken access to clean water as a given,” said Kravitz. “No child should die of diarrhea from drinking dirty water. That thousands of children under the age of five continue to die every day because they lack clean water and basic sanitation is simply unacceptable.”
Earlier today UNICEF announced that the world has met the Millennium Development Goal for drinking water, with 89 percent of the global population now with access. However, that still leaves more than 780 million people, mainly in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, without access. In addition, around 2.5 billion people—almost half the developing world’s population—lack access to improved sanitation. This all adds up to bad news for the children who are being left behind.
Kravitz will be appearing in Public Service Announcements and take to Twitter and Facebook with a message that all children can—and must—have access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Kravitz, who recently released the album ‘Black and White America’, and who will be starring in ‘The Hunger Games’ later this month, is joining forces with UNICEF to help mark World Water Day (March 22) and will send a global message of the importance of investing in children and providing them with clean water and sanitation.
In the United States, Kravitz will be lending his support for the UNICEF Tap Project by encouraging his fans and dining patrons across the country to pay $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free during World Water Week, March 19 – 25. With $1, UNICEF can provide a child with access to clean, safe water for 40 days, or 40 children with access to safe water for one day. Funds raised through the 2012 UNICEF Tap Project will provide children and families with clean drinking water in Viet Nam, Togo, Mauritania and Cameroon.
Poor sanitation, water and hygiene have serious repercussions on a child’s health, often causing diarrhea and other easily preventable diseases. Children, particularly [...]

“Hunger Games” adds Kravitz, Jones to growing cast

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: We’ve posted so many casting updates and in-development stories, one would almost assume that Gary Ross’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” is due out this summer.
It isn’t. We still have to wait until March 2012, even though we’ve already seen the first look of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen – a teenage girl engaged in a futuristic survival competition – and filled in most of the cast.
I say “most” because new pieces to the “Hunger Games” puzzle are being added to this day. For example, THR reports that rocker-actor Lenny Kravitz is joining Ross’s cast as Cinna, while Deadline adds that Toby Jones has been tapped to play the host/narrator of the game.
Both actors join the already cast Lawrence, Stanley Tucci, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley and Liam Hemsworth.
Do you like the casting? Are you anxious to see “Hunger Games,” and do you think Lionsgate is heading in the right direction with its adaptation? Let us know in the comments section below.

HollywoodNews.com: Alicia Keys has slashed the price of her New York home by more than half a million dollars in a bid to sell it.
The songstress is now offering her six-bedroom manse on Long Island for $3.25 million. It was previously on the market in June for $3.85 million. Keys, 29, who recently gave birth to her first child, son Egypt Daoud Dean with music producer husband Swizz Beatz, bought the home in Syosset in 2005 for $3.875 million.
The 9,000 square-foot property, which sits on 2.2 acres, also boasts a pool, six bathrooms, two half bathrooms and a three-car garage. ‘Empire State of Mind’ singer Keys, who was raised by a single mother in the tough Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, was unavailable for comment.
She and Swizz Beatz previously bought an apartment that used to belong to Lenny Kravitz in Manhattan.

Zoe Kravitz heats up her year coming off ‘Funny Story’

HollywoodNews.com: Burgeoning actress Zoe Kravitz is having quite a busy year.
Recently, she earned guffaws from arthouse audiences in the Zach Galifianakis quirky comedy “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.” The hot starlet who is the daughter of singer Lenny Kravitz and “Cosby Show” actress Lisa Bonet is expected to break out even more next year in the tentpoles “X-Men: First Class” and the 2012 actioner “Mad Max: Fury Road,” currently in production.
Talking about her acting versatility, Kravitz told W Magazine “”My part in ‘The Brave One’ (with Jodie Foster) was actually written for a blond with a European accent. My part in ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story’ was originally written for an Asian girl. They didn’t initially think of me for those roles. It’s my job to change minds.”
Another indie release featuring Kravitz, “Beware the Gonzo” is playing in the comedy section of this year’s Hollywood Film Festival at the ArcLight Cinemas on Saturday October 23rd. More info here. The film, about a high school geek’s rebellion at his prep school, recently received a warm critical response at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Kravitz also served as a muse for fashion designer Vera Wang when she launched her 2006 fragrance Vera Wang Princess due to the actress’ edgy, downtown identity.
It’s no surprise that Kravitz is a fashion icon as she has a cool-dressing father, whom she borrows clothes from.
Talking to UK InStyle, Kravitz exclaims “Dad’s wardrobe is worth raiding. There’ll be times when we’re having lunch and he’ll be like: ‘Is that my shirt?!’ He gets upset because I steal all the good ones.”
