Lady Gaga is serious about warding off bad spirits

Hollywoodnews.com: Who is Lady Gaga gonna call? That’s right: The Ghostbusters.
Apparently, the pop singer has a fear of bad spirits and has began asking her staff to de-bug all ill will at her concert venues before she takes the stage.
U.K. Daily Mail reports that she spent over $4,000 for ghost-busting equipment which includes electro- magnetic field readers. She recently made the request before her weekend performance at London’s O2 arena.
Lady Gaga bought the supplies from Dan Webb’s ghost-busting firm in the U.K.
A source tells the Daily Mail “Her aide said the gear had to be robust as they were taking it on the road – so they must be doing this every where Lady Gaga is performing.”

James McAvoy will lead all good mutants in “X-Men: First Class”

Hollywoodnews.com: James McAvoy will lead all mutants as a young Dr. Charles Xavier in Fox’s “X-Men: First Class,” an origins tale based on the popular Marvel comic and film series.
Patrick Stewart originated the role of Xavier in the “X-Men” films. In the comic book, Xavier is a handicapped, bald-headed telepath who opens a school to harbor and educate burgeoning mutant-powered individuals. No word on whether McAvoy will have to shave his head.
Matthew Vaughn of “Kick-ass” fame will be helming “First Class” this summer in London for a June 3, 2011 release.
Hollywood Reporter says that the logline for “First Class” will focus on the relationship of Xavier with Magneto, before they were arch foes.
Early on, they were friends discovering their powers and battling threats in the world. Then they had a falling out, splitting between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Xavier’s X-Men.

Exclusive Interview: Mike Newell on creating a cinematic crown for ‘Prince of Persia’

HollywoodNews.com: It almost seems hard to imagine that a director who worked as far back as 1964 could be helming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but Mike Newell is cut from the same cloth as luminaries like John Glen and Terence Young – Brits with the competence and professionalism to tackle virtually any challenge they faced. After more than two decades as a director of television shows, Newell made a cinematic breakthrough with Four Weddings and a Funeral, then moved on to the acclaimed crime drama Donnie Brasco, and eventually, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. As such, Prince of Persia is just another stepping stone, an example of the director’s versatility and talent regardless of genre or content.
Hollywood News sat down with Newell at the San Francisco Comic-Con in April for an exclusive chat about Persia. In addition to talking in depth about the challenges of bringing a video game to life on the silver screen, Newell talked about his indefatigable but irreverent take on contemporary blockbusters, and his attitude about filmmaking and his approach to material that may seem to appeal to audiences that expect action and energy rather than character and storytelling.

Hollywood News: Because video game adaptations have sort of a dubious pedigree, does that put more pressure on you to do a particularly good job in adapting this, or does it embolden you to be able to be more free and do whatever you want?

Mike Newell: Well, I think it’s more like the latter but you have to remember that… I mean, there are two things to be said about that. One is that, when we began, I said to Jerry [Bruckheimer], how important is a strict obedience to the game going to be? And he [didn’t say] I am completely not interested in the game. I think what he was saying is you’ve got to be free. And so from that moment, what I concentrated on first was making a drama. So I concentrated on the casting and the characters and the writing and the this and that and the other.
While all that was going on, I started my own feeble attempts to play the game and I was absolutely terrible at it. I’m just not – well, it’s not in my culture. I am the age I am and I was hopeless with it. I played the sort of [...]

Robert Pattinson wins Performance of the Year at UK’s National Movie Awards

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: For the Best Performance of the Year 2010 category of the National Movie Awards, the UK honored one of its own. Beating out 18 other nominees (including “New Moon” co-stars Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner), Robert Pattinson walked away with the prize.
Though Rob wasn’t there to accept the award himself, the show aired his acceptance speech as part of a video statement: “As you can see, I’m on location shooting my next film, ‘Water for Elephants’. Thank you for honoring me with the award for ‘Best Performance’. It means a lot to me because you, the fans, decide the winner. Thank you again for voting for me and voting for everything Twilight.”
The UK-based 2010 National Movie Awards aired tonight in London at 8PM local time. Though not all Twilight actors managed to score wins, the franchise did as well as it possibly could. Kristen and Taylor lost to Rob in the ‘Best Performance of the Year’ category, but “New Moon” and “Eclipse” both won in the categories in which they were nominated: ‘Best Movie: Fantasy’ and ‘Most Anticipated Movie of the Summer’, respectively.
Though Rob has been written off by some as a dispensable beyond the world of Twilight, current projects with Oscar-winning co-stars and, certainly, this award, are coming just in time. Fans who believe in the actor are thrilled by accelerating signals of Rob’s artistic credibility.

World exclusive “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” clip to be shown at tonight’s UK National Movie Awards

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: Announced this morning via a National Movie Awards PR affiliate, tonight’s UK-based award show will air what it is calling a “world exclusive” snippet of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”. Maclaurin Media made the announcement on Twitter and its official web site, linking to a small article with additional details about the show.
Adding to the intrigue of the announcement is language in the accompanying Digital Spy article, which alludes to footage delivered from Los Angeles by “secure escorted courier”. For weeks, fans survived on crumbs (i.e., the abbreviated trailer), but in recent weeks, Summit Entertainment has made a lot more footage available.
By now, “Eclipse” fans have seen minutes of the film and there is evidence of more to follow. Beyond the three official trailer releases appearing on the Eclipse web site, a large handful of other “world exclusives” have surfaced as part of extended media shows. A Rosalie/Bella and an extended Jacob/Charlie/Edward scene appeared on two separate episodes of The Ellen Degeneres Show; The Oprah Show ran extended clips (beyond the world premiere of the theatrical trailer); and yet another world premiere clip will be presented by Rob, Taylor, and Kristen at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.
As a wider spectrum of actors begins to appear on promotional shows, additional previews may be enjoyed by fans. Watch out for your favorite stars’ media appearances—clips accompanying them to talk shows will always feature the actor’s own character.
The National Movie Awards will be broadcast live from London at 8PM local time on ITV1.

Timothy Hutton Interview: Leverage Season Three and Clooney’s Girlfriend

By Fred Topel
HollywoodNews.com: Timothy Hutton is an Academy Award winning film actor. Now he leads a team on the ensemble action show Leverage. When the show comes back this June on TNT, it will pick up after Nate Ford (Hutton)’s arrest, after he shared a kiss but got spurned by Sophie (Gina Bellman). You can catch up with the Season Two DVD now available. Hutton spoke with the media in a conference call and previewed season three’s new guest stars (including George Clooney’s gal Elisabetta Canalis) and adventures, as the Leverage team continues to pull scams and heists to protect their clients.
Q: What guest stars are going to be on the show this season?
Timothy Hutton: Well, this year, just like last year, we’ve got some really great guest stars. We’ve got Michael O’Keefe, Giancarlo Esposito, John Schneider, Arye Gross, Richard Chamberlain, Clancy Brown, some great people that join us this year.
Q: Where are things going for Nate and Sophie this year?
TH: Well, at the start of season three, what happens with Nate and Sophie is that they find it very difficult to talk about the kiss that happened on the ship there. Sophie wants to talk about the kiss and Nate wants to talk about the slap. As I said one time before, it’s sort of that’s the nature of their relationship right there, a kiss followed by a slap. Both gestures having quite great meaning for both of them but it’s something that’s dealt with in season three. They come upon it when they’re alone and they sort of dance around the issue a little bit but there are some nice moments trying to figure out what’s going on between them as season three goes on.
Q: Will we be seeing more of the drunken disheveled Nate or back to the more put together, cool Nate?
TH: I think with season three you’re going to see very determined Nate Ford, a man on a mission. He gets in jail and he’s determined once he gets out, if he gets out because we don’t really want to say whether he does or not, but he’s determined to take on much bigger cases and to get the team reunited and kick off season three as sort of a man on a mission. The drinking and being disheveled and not being in control of anything is going to be put aside for the time [...]

Robert Pattinson Wants To Perform On-Stage

By Tracy Rosenfield
hollywoodnews.com: Robert Pattinson, best known for his character, Edward Cullen, in the “Twilight” franchise, has also been filming a slew of movies as of late. In 2009, he filmed “Remember Me” in New York in between “New Moon” and “Eclipse”, which both filmed in Vancouver. He just wrapped the screen adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel “Bel Ami” which filmed in Budapest, and he is currently filming the screen adaptation of “Water for Elephants” in Los Angeles. At the end of this year, he’ll start filming “Breaking Dawn”, the fourth novel in Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” saga.
Many of Robert Pattinson’s fans also know he’s a musician. He can be seen lugging his guitar when he heads to a filming location and he had two songs appear in the film “Twilight” – Never Think and Let Me Sign, one of which is on the “Twilight” soundtrack. He’s also said during various interviews that much of the down-time on the “Twilight” sets is spent jamming with the other musically-inclined actors.
However, what you might not know is that Pattinson also has an affinity for the stage. During school, Pattinson studied amateur theatre through the Barnes Theatre Company. According to CBS, the actor has told his reps, “stage work is something that I want to do as soon as I get a window… it’s what I trained to do and what I really miss.” Pattinson isn’t bound to his British roots either. He’d take a role in London or on Broadway.
Pattinson moving to the stage would likely pose some logistical challenges – at least at first. At times, he can barely go outdoors without being mobbed by fans. If his work were to switch from screen to stage, how would the crowd handle themselves – knowing he’s right there – in person – just a mere few feet away? First, let’s get Pattinson to the stage. Then we can worry about how to keep the opening applause (screams) to just a few minutes.

Jude Law and Sienna Miller start a public fight>

Hollywoodnews.com: What the heck is going on with all these old flame Hollywood couples whispering that they’re tying the not, then exhibiting behavior that dispels such rumors?
Recently Leonardo DiCaprio was seen getting cozy with a woman who looked like his up and coming fiancé Bar Refaeli, now Jude Law and Sienna Miller are fighting like the good ole days.
Miller and Law were apparently spotted by the U.K.’s Daily Mail fighting like cats and dogs – in public no less!
One onlooker at the private members’ club Shoreditch House in East London exclaimed “They had this blazing row in front of everyone, and Sienna walked out. I couldn’t tell you what the row was about, but Sienna had a huge tantrum.
“It was quite dramatic. As soon as she left, Jude started blatantly chatting up another girl in the club at the bar. She was very pretty and was clearly delighted that this huge movie star was making a move on her.”
“Then, after a while, Sienna came back. You should have seen her face when she saw Jude and this other girl’ says the Daily Mail mole, ‘It was extraordinary. By the time I left, they seemed to have made up.’
Let’s hope so.
