Will Arnett out of “Office” thanks to new gig?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: I guess this means we can take Will Arnett’s name out of the running to replace Steve Carell on “The Office.”
The “Arrested Development” star – whose most recent sitcom, “Running Wilde,” didn’t – has been tapped to join Christina Applegate in an untitled NBC sitcom produced by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video Productions, according to THR.
“The single camera comedy … takes an irreverent look at parenthood through the point of view of an acerbic working mother (Applegate), along with her stay-at-home husband (Arnett) and opinionated parents,” THR writes.
Arnett will be on the “Office” season finale. He’s also a regular guest star on Tina Fey’s “30 Rock.” Some reports had him as a potential replacement for Carell, but that seems unlikely now.

Miley Cyrus apparently didn’t make Lindsay Lohan laugh

HollywoodNews.com: It sounds like Lindsay Lohan doesn’t really like others making jokes about her. First it was ‘Glee,’ and now it is ‘Saturday Night Live.’
Host Miley Cyrus recently did a skit impersonating Lindsay and it supposedly didn’t sit well with her, states TMZ. Lindsay reportedly sent Lorne Michaels an email letting him know how she felt about the skit.
Lindsay has previously hosted ‘SNL’ and reportedly felt hurt that Lorne would allow these digs toward her to happen.

Jennifer Aniston Reveals ‘SNL’ Job Offer

HollywoodNews.com: Making the media rounds in promotion of her latest comedy “Just Go With It,” which also stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston revealed a rather surprising piece of information Wednesday on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Aniston told Winfrey that when Sandler scored a cast member position on SNL in the 1990s, he recommended her to the show’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels. Aniston even met with Michaels in his ninth floor office at the iconic 30 Rock in New York City.
But she rejected the job offer, telling Winfrey the show was too much of a “boys club.” Instead, Aniston signed on to the NBC sitcom Friends. It looks like Jen did pretty good for herself after all.

Will Forte signs off ‘SNL’ on a strong note

HollywoodNews.com: Will Forte, who has been on “Saturday Night Live” for the last seven seasons, is leaving the show.
Forte was best known on the show for the character he took to the big screen: MacGruber, a knock-off of ‘80s TV action star “MacGyver.” “MacGruber,” an economically priced comedy, bombed at the May box office making $8.5 million. Other Forte “SNL” alter egos include Tim Calhoun, a soft-spoken political candidate and Jon Bovi, a member of the Bon Jovi “opposite tribute band.”
In an e-mail message through his spokesperson, Forte was extremely gracious to the show’s producer Lorne Michaels: “After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from ‘S.N.L.’ to pursue new opportunities. He is eternally grateful to Lorne and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years.”
Forte is an alum of the Groundlings sketch comedy school who amped his showbiz resume as a story editor on “Third Rock From the Sun” and “That ‘70s Show” before joining “SNL.”
The New York Times had the news.
Weeks before the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” it is typical for the show to make new cast hires and fires. However, for many of the show’s respected vets’ exits in the past, i.e. Molly Shannon and Chris Kattan, “SNL” often gives them a ‘send-off’ episode at either the mid season or finale point.
Often, those actors, like Forte, who thrive on “Saturday Night Live” are those who create staple characters, typically whose ‘catch-phrase’ alter egos can be branded on T-shirts and mugs, i.e. Dan Aykroyd’s Coneheads, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s “Wayne’s World” hosts.

Jane Lynch found out about her SNL performance through a text message

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: My blogging schedule remains screwy as my mom recovers from her hip surgery. We hope to bring her home today but aren’t sure yet! So here are some items that might have to last you the rest of the day! Hopefully I can get back to a more consistent schedule tomorrow!
BUSY LADY: When Saturday Night Live wanted Jane Lynch to host an episode in October, they went straight to her Glee boss Ryan Murphy to get permission. “I notified her by accident,” Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter at the New York premiere of his new film Eat, Pray Love. “Saturday Night Live called to say, ‘Would you give us Jane for a week in October?’ We just don’t do that, but for Lorne Michaels, I said yes.” Then, Murphy sent a text message to an unsuspecting Lynch: “I said, ‘Lady, you’re doing Saturday Night Live,” Murphy told THR. “And she literally wrote back, ‘What are you talking about?’”
MOVING ON UP: Don’t know about you, but I’d love to have Rachel Maddow in my neighborhood. The brainy and super cool MSNBC host and her partner Susan Mikula have just purchased singer Michael Stipe’s West Village apartment for $1.25 million.
Since it is two combined units, the couple will have plenty more room than their previous digs which at about 275 square feet, Rachel once described as “the size of a van.”
Rachel is the host of The Rachel Maddow Show which airs Monday-Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern on MSNBC-TV, and is re-broadcast on MSNBC at 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Source: Curbed via Towleroad

The Producers Guild Awards have also honored such legendary producers as Steven Spielberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, Brian Grazer, Steven Bochco, Clint Eastwood, Sherry Lansing, Robert Evans, Roger Corman and Lorne Michaels, among others.
