While Feud Rumors Flare, Here is Our Madonna Vs. Gaga Handicapper

By Beck/smith
HollywoodNews.com: Madonna, back in the Superstar spotlight with her “W.E.” film and her date to perform at the Super Bowl, finally addressed the matter of her self-described biggest fan, Lady Gaga.
Of the homage to Madonna’s “Express Yourself” that is intrinsic to Gaga’s “Born This Way,” she told ABC’s Cynthia McFadden it “feels reductive.” As in reduced, abridged, less than. She also said “I can’t really be annoyed by it…because obviously, I’ve influenced her.”
Obviously indeed. Where does the line fall between being influenced by someone and plain old copying them? Grace Jones, another Gaga influence, was quoted in the U.K. saying, “I’ve seen some things she’s worn that I’ve worn, and that does kind of p— me off.” But it’s Madonna, more than other celeb, who keeps getting the Gaga déjà vu. Acknowledging that both ladies’ talents are far beyond those of more run-of-the mill stars, we decided to run a comparison check:

Madonna’s “W.E.”–cleverly redubbed “WTF?” by Kyle Smith in the New York Post

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Madonna may be getting ready for her big Super Bowl half time show on Sunday. But her movie, “W.E.” has opened to the worst reviews of her entire horridso called film career. “W.E.”–cleverly redubbed “WTF?” by Kyle Smith in the New York Post, has scored a measly 18% on Rottentomatoes.com. That’s out of 100%. Critics around the country and the world-especially the British papers–hate it. I told you this would happen last September when “W.E.”–Madonna’s misinterpretation of the love story of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor–opened at the Toronto Film Festival. Since then much has happened–including Madonna’s ex-communication of cast member Abbe Cornish, who, according to sources, “she simply doesn’t like.” Only actress Andrea Riseborough, who plays Wallis Simpson, has made the publicity rounds.
Ironically, just as Madonna is performing in Indianapolis on Sunday, the full weekend box office numbers should be out–and they won’t be pretty. That is unless you’re interested in seeing the Duchess of Windsor dance to Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” while her husband watches from his death bed. Or listening to Madonna dismiss the couple’s visit to Hitler and their support of Nazi Germany. Or see actor James D’Arcy– a six foot two slim model–play Edward, the five foot seven nincompoop who abdicated (thank goodness) the British crown to marry an already twice wedded American who reportedly cheated on him.
“W.E.” is an odd and off putting movie, that’s for sure. The dialogue is crass, the sense of history is derived from skipping high school classes. But I must take credit for one thing — I dubbed this film “Wally and Wallis” in July 2010 as a tribute to “Julie and Julia.” Now everyone’s hopping on the bandwagon. But when people from two different eras–one dead, one alive because she’s breathing–start talking to each other, you know there’e trouble.

Madonna cut daughter’s role from film

HollywoodNews.com: Madonna is apparently all business as she has revealed that she cut her daughter, Lourdes, out of her latest film ‘W.E.’
Madonna had cast Lourdes as the young version of Wallis Simpson, but ended up not using her scenes in the final cut of the film, states Hollyscoop. “I ended up cutting her out of the film. Ruthless, I know. I said, ‘Sorry babe, you’re on the cutting room floor.’ She took it like a champ,” Madonna admitted.
However, it seems casting her was a last minute thing anyway: “I just kind of dragged her in at the last minute. It was quite unfair of me to do what I did and what I asked her to do.”

Elton John upset for loss to Madonna at Golden Globes?

HollywoodNews.com: Elton John and Madonna were competing last night for Best Original Song at the Golden Globes, and while she walked away the winner, Elton may be a little bitter.
Elton’s husband, David Furnish, ended up going off on the outcome on Facebook, states TMZ. “Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!” Furnish commented.
He then continued, “Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in it’s narcissism.”
Not only that, but Elton reportedly told a reporter on the red carpet that Madonna had no “f**kin’ chance” of winning.

Madonna’s new comments on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”

HollywoodNews.com: When Lady Gaga’s song “Born This Way” came out, a lot of people started comparing it to Madonna’s hit “Express Yourself,” but what did Madonna think?
Madonna has recently admitted on ’20/20′ that she also felt there were some similarities, states RadarOnline.com. “When I heard it on the radio …I said that sounds very familiar. It felt reductive,” Madonna commented.
But Madonna isn’t necessarily bothered by being referenced by Gaga: [S]ometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done.”

Gene Simmons doesn’t think Madonna is right for the Super Bowl

HollywoodNews.com: Madonna may be taking on the Super Bowl Halftime Show this year, but rocker Gene Simmons doesn’t agree with the choice of entertainment.
Simmons recently commented that Madonna isn’t exactly “appropriate,” states TMZ. He then revealed that he has a problem with artists who use audio recordings instead of performing live with a band.
“By the way, Madonna’s terrific … I hate the tapes,” Simmons said to clarify his real problem with how he thinks her performance will go down at the Super Bowl.
Do you agree?

Madonna confirmed as Super Bowl halftime entertainment

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The NFL’s ready to open its heart to a certain Material Girl, as reports confirm what once was rumored, that Madonna will be the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLVI.
The game will be held on Feb. 5, 2012, and is being played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
NBC official confirmed the news Sunday night during the halftime report of the Saints-Lions game, also on the network. Previous halftime entertainers have included Bruce Springsteen, The Who, U2, Prince, the Rolling Stones and – infamously – Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, who exposed herself on live television.
Madonna’s currently busy promoting her period romance “W.E.,” which she directed and hopes to get into the annual Oscar race.
