Johnny Depp, Tim Burton confirm cast for “Dark Shadows”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Tim Burton has filled out the cast for his “Dark Shadows” update, including some fresh names and an actress we all could have assumed would find her way into the film at some point.
Jonny Lee Miller and Chloe Moretz have been cast alongside Johnny Depp in the horror-thriller, which begins shooting at Pinewood Studios, THR reports. In addition, Burton’s wife (and frequent collaborator) Helena Bonham Carter officially has been confirmed as a member of the ensemble.
Burton’s film is an adaptation of a cult TV show that’s a favorite of both he and Depp. It reportedly casts the “Sweeney Todd” star as “self-loathing vampire” Barnabas Collins, who “returns to his human roots in search of his lost love.” Early reports also have the vamp interacting with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts, so we understand why the material appeals to Burton.
The director already had cast Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Bella Heathcote and Jackie Earle Haley, though this will be Depp’s show. Everyone else in Burton’s productions end up being window dressing to his beloved star and longtime creative partner.
THR says “Dark Shadows” will shoot entirely in the UK. Warner Bros. plans to release it May 11, 2012.

Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Zac Efron and many more in “New Year’s Eve” trailer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: The cast list for Garry Marshall’s “New Year’s Eve” reads like a who’s who of mainstream romantic comedies. In fact, it sounds an awful lot like Marshall’s “Valentine’s Day,” which, given the financial success of that ensemble comedy, comes as no surprise.
Like “Valentine’s,” the comedy centers around disconnected individuals all crossing paths on one day. This time it’s New Year’s Eve, and the action shifts from L.A. to New York City. Sarah Jessica Parker, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, Katherine Heigl, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank all jostle for screen time in Marshall’s latest, which has its first official trailer below:

Warner Bros. and New Line will open “New Year’s Eve” on Dec. 9.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Tim Burton may reunite for “Dark Shadows”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: We had been hearing that Helena Bonham Carter planned to join Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows,” an adaptation of a vintage 1960s soap opera that dealt with vampires, ghosts and ghouls. That’s really no shock. As Burton’s life partner, Carter often appears in his work, as does planned “Dark Shadows” collaborator Johnny Depp.
But now that the “Shadows” production is approaching an April start date, there’s news that another Burton veteran might toss her hat into the shadowy ring.
That would be Michelle Pfeiffer, the Catwoman to Burton’s Batman, who “is in talks to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard” according to Deadline.
If Carter and Pfeiffer join, they’ll be part of an ensemble that right now includes Depp, Eva Green and Jackie Earle Haley.

More details as they surface.

Will Anne Hathaway be able to measure up as Catwoman?

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: Catwoman is slated to surface in Christopher Nolan’s next Batman movie and she will be played by the “it girl” of the moment Anne Hathaway!
How big a star is Anne right now? HUGE! Not only is she co-hosting the Oscars next month with James Franco, but she also let it be known to ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy that she’d like to play Kurt Hummel’s gay aunt on the show and it looks that that will happen.
Anne, who was terrific in last year’s ‘Love and Other Drugs’ opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, became a star nearly a decade ago in the ‘Princess Diaries’ movies and has since built an impressive body of work that includes an Oscar-nominated performance in ‘Rachel Getting Married’ as well as such classics as ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
Now she will add the role of Selena Kyle (aka Catwoman) in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
She has many acts to follow (it seems Catwomen really do have nine lives!) beginning with Julie Newmar’s performance as Catwoman in the original Batman TV series. She left the series and was replaced by a more sexualized and subversive Catwoman played by the one and only Eartha Kitt who could purr in the role like no one else. (Eartha is my personal fave).
Former Miss America Lee Meriwether played the part in the first Batman film in 1966 with the character pretending to be a Soviet journalist to entrap Bruce Wayne.
The next time we saw Catwoman was in the feature film ‘Batman Returns’ with Michelle Pfeiffer, armed with a whip, playing opposite Michael Keaton. She got raves for her portrayal of Catwoman as a secretary who assumes a new identity after a group of cats saves her life.

Sienna Miller latest to make plans for “New Year’s Eve”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Yet another actor has made plans for “New Year’s Eve.”
This time it’s Sienna Miller who has joined Garry Marshall’s swelling ensemble, which already includes Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Biel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry and Zac Efron, Variety reports.
Much like Marshall’s hit comedy “Valentine’s Day,” this new film movie will be set on a major holiday and watch several beautiful people as they interact. The major change is a shift in location. Where “Valentine’s” took place in and around Los Angeles, “New Year’s Eve” will be set in New York.
Marshall likely will begin filming soon, as New Line/Warner Bros. has set a Dec. 9 release date for the semi-sequel. Is there time to add even more actors?

Sarah Jessica Parker latest star to join “Eve;” Halle Berry, Zac Efron next?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Another shining star has been added to the universe Garry Marshall is building for his “New Year’s Eve” comedy, with even more negotiating to join.
Sarah Jessica Parker is the latest actress to join an ensemble that already includes Jessica Biel, Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Ashton Kutcher and Lea Michele. Like Marshall’s successful “Valentine’s Day,” this film would follow a series of interacting characters over the course of a holiday, though the setting would shift from Los Angeles to New York.
While reporting that Parker is on board, THR also adds that Halle Berry and Zac Efron are negotiating to appear in “Eve.” Berry “will play a caterer who runs into a former flame,” while Efron “is on track to play a bike messenger who ends up trying to fulfill Pfeiffer’s New Year’s Eve resolutions in exchange for tickets to a big party.”
More on “Eve” as it develops!

‘Batman 3’ casting begins for lead femme

HollywoodNews.com: And in more “Batman 3” news: Christopher Nolan is apparently meeting with lead actresses.
The question remains: For which role? Rumor is that it’s for Catwoman, a role made famous by Michelle Pfeiffer in 1992’s “Batman Returns.”
“Some of the beauties coming in to chat with Christopher would suggest that,” a source reveals.
The casting call sheet per Moviehole reads that Nolan “is looking for actresses in their late 20s and early 30s to take on the main female role in the superhero sequel.”
To date the main female character in Nolan’s “Batman” series has been Bruce Wayne’s g.f. Rachel Dawes, played respectively by Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal in “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight.”

Ed Limato: Hollywood Agent Gave Legendary Oscar Parties

By Roger Friedman
hollywoodnews.com: Ed Limato, 73, one of the most legendary Hollywood talent agents ever, died on Saturday after a long illness. Ed, a bon vivant who lived in splendor in a Beverly Hills mansion with a massive, rolling lawn, was one of a kind.
It was in March 2001 that Ed Limato gave what was probably the best of his famous Oscar parties. I attended as a guest of the great Caroline Graham. We were working on a Talk magazine Oscar issue. Remember Talk magazine?
Anyway, I chronicled the night in two columns. They can be found here:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,1971,00.html”> Column One
Colimn Two
This is what I remember: in the large party tent set up on Ed’s lawn, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts came in, talked to a small group of people including me and Diana Ross, and told he was definitely running for president in 2004. I reported this in my Fox411 column, but it was Fox News, and no one took it seriously.
I also remember Diana Ross with all her kids, dancing together joyously. And David Selby, the terrific actor, telling me that Ed Limato had been his one and only agent through his whole career. Despite Limato adding Mel Gibson (then sane), Denzel Washington, Michelle Pfeiffer and other movie stars over the years, he’d remained loyal to Selby. And vice versa.
In succeeding years, the Limato party was still a big deal, but his clients were winding down. For the 2001 Talk Oscar issue, I sent writer Ross Johnson (now with PMK-BNC) to interview Ed about his Oscar party.
Ross wrote: “Limato began having friends over to his home for a pre-Oscar party in the early 1990s. It was a small group including Gere, the late Herb Ritts, and top actors who had jetted in from all over the world for Oscar weekend. The cost of the party back then was about $10,000. (Limato has always paid for the party out of his own pocket.)
“But when agent Irving “Swifty” Lazar died in December of 1993, the balance of power in Oscar party politics changed. Lazar had hosted an incredibly popular post-Oscar party for almost three decades, but now the torch was passed to Limato and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter.
It’s hard to call a party for 400 ambitious showbiz types as “private,” and certainly the tab for Limato’s bash has risen (it now costs him $150,000). But Limato refuses to budge on one […]
