Maggie Gyllenhaal looks for laughs in ‘vibrator comedy’

HollywoodNews.com: Maggie Gyllenhaal is working overtime.
Soon after it was announced that she was starring with her main man Peter Sarsgaard in a bluegrass Bill Monroe feature, she’s also linked to a period romantic comedy “Hysteria.”
Variety is calling the film a “vibrator comedy.”
Hugh Dancy stars as the doctor and love interest of Gyllenhaal. Dancy’s character apparently works for her father who is being played by Jonathan Pryce. The film is expected to go before the cameras in October.
Speaking to ScreenCrave, Gyllenhaal exclaims, “I play a firecracker whose father is a doctor who is in the business of curing hysterical women. He cures them basically by getting them off and that actually happened. I end up having a sort of unexpected love affair with this guy who works for him, and who by mistake invents the vibrator.”
Gyllenhaal can be seen on the big screen this weekend in the U.K. kiddie sequel “Nanny McPhee Returns.”
“Nanny McPhee 2” has made $62.6 million at the foreign box office already with close to 40% of its ticket sales coming from its country of origin, the U.K.

Maggie Gyllenhaal finds fulfillment in making “sacrifices” for husband

HollywoodNews.com: Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has revealed that she finds “so much pleasure” in making sacrifices for her husband.
The ‘Donnie Darko’ star, 32, is married to actor Peter Sarsgaard, 39, and the pair have a three-year-old daughter, Ramona, together.
In an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, Gyllenhaal admitted that she has a “classical” outlook on her marriage with Sarsgaard.
And she credits her Nanny McPhee co-star Emma Thompson with giving her the idea. Gyllenhaal told the magazine: “Emma, you kind of gave me the idea that a part of my life, a part of my mind, has to be devoted to my husband. My mother’s generation has been bucking against that. But I’ve just been finding so much pleasure in sacrificing sometimes for my husband – going to where he’s working and tidying up his trailer because he couldn’t manage to do it, and bringing him things that will make him feel better, and being a wife in a more classical way.”
She added: “It feels really right to me.”

Nanny McPhee 2 Reunites Potter Co-Stars

By Hanako M. Ricks
HollywoodNews.com: Nanny McPhee Returns to the big screen on August 20 and she’s bringing some backup from Hogwarts with her! Academy Award winning actress Emma Thompson, who both wrote the screenplay and stars as the titular character, returns to teach discipline to another set of naughty children a set of five “very important lessons”, in her own, magical way. This story is about a mother (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who is trying to take care of her children while her husband (Ewan McGregor) is away at war, when her family expands to include two very spoiled cousins.
The film also stars Thompson’s Harry Potter co-stars Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort) as Lord Gray; Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) as Mrs. Docherty; and Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood) as Uncle Phil. The first nanny McPhee movie also starred Imelda Staunton, who plays the nastily pink Delores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series.
At one point during negotiations for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it had been reported that Thompson would not return to her beloved role as Professor Sybil Trelawney because filming would have conflicted with that of Nanny McPhee Returns, which as star and screenwriter held more of an emotional investment for her. Luckily for fans of both franchises, Thompson confirmed in March that she did indeed return for Deathly Hallows.
The Nanny McPhee movies are based on the “Nurse Matilda” series of books by Christianna Brand.
