Rafael Nadal’s new Armani ad and visit with Letterman

HollywoodNews.com: CHARMER: The US Open starts on Monday and Rafael Nadal is the defending champion.
The Spanish superstar is now ranked second in the world behind Novak Djokovic who has beaten Rafa five straight times this year. But Nadal is still a formidable champion who won the French Open this year and was runner-up to Djokovic at Wimbledon.
He’s got plenty going on besides tennis right now including the release of his memoir, Rafa, and a new series of sexy modeling shots for Armani jeans and underwear.
Nadal was David Letterman’s guest on The Late Show and I must say, men’s tennis is awfully lucky to have such gracious and charismatic stars at the top of its sport as Rafa, Novak and Roger Federer.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to renew their historic rivalry in ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday

By Greg Hernandez
hollywoodnews.com: It really does not get any better than this.
The tennis world’s top two players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, won their semifinal matches today at the ATP World Tour Finals in London and will play for the title tomorrow.
It will mark only the second time the two have played in 2010. Nadal leads the rivalry 14-7 but Federer has more grand slam titles with 16 to Nadal’s nine. Both have won each of their sport’s four majors (Wimbledon, US Open, French Open, Australian Open) at least once.
Nadal, who defeated fourth-ranked Andy Murray in a brilliant 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 semifinal showdown, will be seeking his first year-end title.
Federer, a straight-sets winner over third-ranked Novak Djokovic, will be seeking his fifth ATP World Tour Finals title.
I’m rooting for Federer, of course, because he’s my favorite male player ever. He also needs the win more, I think, psychologically. Although he won his fourth Australian Open in January, he lost the number one ranking to Nadal over the summer after working so hard to regain it in 2009.

Rafael Nadal plants himself with the all-time greats of tennis

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: Determined Rafael Nadal won his first US Open title tonight and by doing so, firmly planted himself among the all-time greats of tennis.
Nadal, the reigning Wimbledon and French Open champion, beat back the challenge of Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in a thrilling rain-delayed match that lasted 3 hours and 43 minutes. The world’s number one player collapsed to the ground in joy after match point and then embraced his opponent at the net.
The landmark victory gave Nadal the one major title that had alluded him and he became only the seventh man in history to win all four of the sport’s grand slam crowns. He is also one of only two men and one of three players overall to win all four and the Olympic Gold Medal. (The others are Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf).
Nadal, only 24, has also won five French Opens, two Wimbledons and an Australian Open for a total of 9 majors. His win moved him one ahead on the all-time list of Agassi, Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl. His archrival Roger Federer is the all-time leader with 16 majors.
You’ve gotta feel for Novak who had managed to beat five-time champion Federer in the semifinals on Saturday surviving two match points along the way.
Here’s a guy with all kinds of talent whose career happens to be taking place during the era of Nadal and Federer. With those two winning almost all of the grand slam championships since 2004, there isn’t a whole lot left over for anyone else.
But Novak, also the US Open runner-up in 2007, is only 23 and I feel quite certain that he will add another major or two (or maybe several more) to the Australian Open he won in 2008.
