Katie Holmes “having a ball” playing Jackie-O in ‘The Kennedys’

HollywoodNews.com: Katie Holmes has revealed that she is “having a ball” playing the role of Jackie-O. Holmes stars as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for new History Channel mini-series ‘The Kennedys.’
She told Extra: “I’m having a ball. “It’s a great group of people and I feel really lucky to be part of it and have this role.” The 31-year-old actress recently flew by helicopter from the Toronto set of ‘The Kennedys’ to New York City to promote her new film, ‘The Extra Man.’
And the actress admits her husband, Tom Cruise, 48, organised the trip for her. The ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star added: “My husband set it up for me, which is really nice.”

‘Smash His Camera’ releases official poster

HollywoodNews.com: “Smash His Camera,” the acclaimed new documentary from Academy Award winning director Leon Gast (When We Were Kings), has just released the official poster for the film.
Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis sued him, Marlon Brando broke his jaw and Steve McQueen gave him a look that would have killed, if looks could kill. To the celebrities he pursued, photographer Ron Galella was the beast who threatened beauty.
As it turned out, he gave them a strange and lasting beauty they might never have known without him. Inherent in the story of this notorious paparazzo are the complex issues of the right to privacy, freedom of the press and the ever-growing vortex of celebrity worship.
He sneaked around and invaded and bribed and held up his camera and shot till he dropped (or someone dropped him). His was the artistry of the sniper. Yet Galella found something essential in his real-life subjects, and he gave it permanence.
“Smash His Camera” will be in select theaters on July 30, 2010.

First American paparazzi to be subject of new documentary

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Ron Galella: if you lived in New York in the 1970s, he was a villain with a camera. Stalking Jackie Onassis like she was a rare rhinoceros, Galella was the first American paparazzi. Now he’s the subject of a new documentary on HBO called “Smash His Camera,” which will also have a theatrical release.
On Tuesday night at MoMA, and then at the Monkey Bar, Galella became a movie star. “Smash His Camera” started at Sundance last January, and has made it all the way to the big time. Expertly directed by Leon Gast, “Smash His Camera” now suggests that if Gallela hadn’t driven everyone crazy taking their pictures, an important historical archive would not have been created.
Still at the screening, Nobu owner Drew Nieporent said, “Wasn’t he a bad guy when we were growing up?”
Not any more, apparently, even though Jackie O took Gallela to court not once, but twice.
