McCartney apparently went to the hotel with his wife, Nancy Shevell, to lay some flowers at the makeshift memorial set up there, states TMZ. The two reportedly left a bouquet of yellow roses there while they also spoke with fans who were there to honor the late singer.
McCartney was reportedly very low-key while visiting the memorial.

Paul McCartney Mesmerizes

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Showbiz411 readers: we are still posting here all the time. But Showbiz411 has also sort of overnight hooked up with Forbes magazine’s Forbes.com. The stories are there, but it’s like we’ve moved into a house before all the construction has finished. But keep checking www.forbes.com on a regular basis as Grammy weekend proceeds.
And basically, I’m just back from the first of three marathon nights of music: the Paul McCartney MusiCares Person of the Year dinner. I was backstage after the show with the survivors–the show was long, and the most complex I’ve ever seen in the football field sized LA Convention Center. Besides McCartney, who played a lot, peformers included Alicia Keys, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall and James Taylor, Coldplay, Allison Krauss, Neil Young with Crazy Horse (Paul and Neil are currently BFFs), Norah Jones, Katy Perry, Elvis Costello narrated a video, the Foo Fighters.
Eddie Izzard was the host–and this was funny–he was seated waaaay at the back of the room at my table. We were cracking up. And he was brilliant on stage. McCartney imported performers from the Las Vegas Cirque du Soleil show “Love”– acrobats and actors and trapeze artists were all over the room and even used a big rotating circular stage.
Katy Perry was so excited about singing “Hey Jude” that she pledged $250,000 from royalties from her latest single to MusiCares. I thought Neil Portnow was going to explode from happiness.
The food was vegetarian–I’m sorry, it was indigestible. Many people rejected it and just ate dessert and bread. I have to give credit to Paul McCartney–every event he’s featured it is vegan. No fish even! This is why he looks so great. But he doesn’t he sneak an In-and-Out Burger sometimes? Tony Bennett’s daughter mentioned she’d gone to Pink’s earlier in the day for a hot dog. It was cruel.
In the audience: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Carole King, Jack Nicholson, Piers Morgan, Bonnie Raitt, Randy Jackson, Smokey Robinson and–yes–Yoko Ono at the main table. For a while she just sat and chatted with Paul’s son James.

Meanwhile, Clive Davis prepares for his big event tonight at the Beverly Hilton. He has Ray Davies and Diana Ross and tons more stars. How will he top this? Who knows: Maybe Barack Obama will duet with Al Green. Another long night of great music. When are those Grammy Awards anyway?
PS Thanks to John [...]

LOVE, a Cirque du Soleil creation and co-production with Apple Corps Ltd., celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles and is presented exclusively at The Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. This joint artistic venture marks the first time that The Beatles company, Apple Corps Ltd., has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. The project was born out of a personal friendship and mutual admiration between the late George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte.
Since its June 2006 premiere, LOVE has performed over 2,000 shows for more than 4.3 million people. Recently named “Best Show in Las Vegas” by USA Today, LOVE has been voted “Best Show in Las Vegas” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal for four consecutive years and continues to be a celebrity favorite. Paul McCartney finally receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star

HollywoodNews.com: Paul McCartney finally has what all the other members of the Beatles have: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
McCartney joined Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon on the Walk of Fame as he was introduced at the ceremony by fellow musician Neil Young, states UsMagazine.com. “Way back in history, in Liverpool when we were kids and we were listening to Buddy Holly and all the rock ‘n’ roll greats, I would have never thought that the day would come when I’d be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” McCartney said about finally getting a star.
And he had a few people he definitely had to thank: “I couldn’t have done it without, certainly, three boys, so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo.”
Do you think it took a little long for him to get a star?

Grammys are finally doing it right!

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: orget the nominees. This year, the Grammys are finally doing it right. It’s a celebration of the world of music. They’ve just announced a Beach Boys reunion with Brian Wilson, Al Jardine and Mike Love. Add to that performances from Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. That would be enough. Dayenu! But of course Adele is performing, and so are hot new groups like Foster the People, The Civil Wars, and (less newish) Maroon 5.
Chris Brown is going to be incredible — it’s time to move on from his troubled past. Diana Ross, who gets a Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday night, is a presenter. Carrie Underwood and Tony Bennett are performing together. The show sounds like it’s going to take five hours. But it will be worth it. There’s a rumor that Lady Gaga is opening the show. No word yet on Van Halen. LL Cool J is hosting. All they’re missing is Lana del Rey (just kidding!)

McCartney, Van Halen, Flack, Fray and Bentley

By Roger Friedman
HollywoodNews.com: Paul McCartney‘s wonderful “Kisses on the Bottom” is not the only Beatles-eque CD of the day. Roberta Flack is delivering her long-awaited “Let it Be Roberta,” a stunning reimagining of Beatles songs like “We Can Work it Out,” “In My Life,” “Come Together,” George Harrison’s “Isn’t it a Pity,” and –shockingly–a three minute version of “Hey Jude.” On the latter, Roberta simply turns the main song into an acoustic rendering and drops the long “na-na” section. Her versions of “Let it Be” and “The Long and Winding Road” are terrific, too. Go straight to amazon or ITunes right now for these CDs. Then of course Van Halen has “A Different Kind of Truth” with David Lee Roth returning as lead singer and Wolfgang Van Halen replacing Michael Anthony as bassist. There are also two more contemporary releases: from the Fray, and from country star singer Dierks Bentley. McCartney is all set for a big Grammy weekend (MusiCares Person of the Year and the Grammy show.) I’d be surprised if Van Halen doesn’t rear its many heads also over Grammy weekend. But if the record business is looking for a push, this Tuesday is it–at least until March 6th when Bruce Springsteen releases “Wrecking Ball.”
PS Leonard Cohen released an exquisite album last week. For some reason he called it “Old Ideas.” This is like a marketing buzzkill. How about “New Ideas,” Leonard? Or how about any of the nine titles of the songs on the CD? Anything but “Old Ideas.” For a guy who lost all his money, and needs to make some, you’d think he’d pick something a little more exciting or enticing. Anyway. It’s not like the album is just Lenny crabbing away. The lyrics and melodies are magical, and he adds great female back up singers. Get it.

Jimmy Fallon marries Tim Tebow, David Bowie in instant classic

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Jimmy Fallon’s almost too talented for late-night television. His musical parodies – which have involved everyone from Paul McCartney to Bruce Springsteen – are genius, and if not for the Internet, they might not be seen by a wide enough audience.
His latest seems so obvious, it’s a wonder no one else grabbed it. But Fallon thought to mix Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow and classic glam rocker David Bowie. The result? Tebowie.
