The Burnetts and the History Channel are putting their all into pulling viewers into “The Bible”

Roma Downey and Mark Burnett are bracing themselves for reaction to their ambitious, 10- hour History Channel adaptation of the Bible that launches this Sunday night (3/3) and runs through Easter. “I’m sure people will hurl what they want to hurl,” the “Touched by an Angel” actress told us. But, she added, the miniseries was made “with full hearts.”
Certainly the Burnetts and the History Channel are putting their all into pulling viewers into “The Bible,” with a full court press of promotion including: advance screenings in theaters and sports arenas; plugs from faith leaders including Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, T.D. Jakes and Maya Angelou; a huge array of support materials available to churches and individuals; a webinar; a You Tube video in which Roma asks believers to pray for the miniseries; even a kit for hosing Bible viewing parties (http://www.outreach.com/campaigns/the-bible-resources).
“We’ve had scholars and theologians help. We’re not pretending to be biblical experts,” she stressed. “We brought experts in once the scripts were created to take a look at the scripts to make sure we were accurate and true to the Bible, but obviously we’re making a movie, and so we breathed creative expansion into that.”
Roma is hoping the TV event will attract the faithful and those unfamiliar with the Bible alike. “Yes, it’s going to be a faith journey, but it’s also going to be really exciting and dynamic television,” as she put it. The filmmakers were able to bring up-to-the-minute CGI special effects artistry to familiar stories from Noah’s ark and Moses’ parting of the Red Sea to Jesus walking on water — “Genesis to Revelation.”
The intensity of their belief in this project is such that Burnett told Variety, “I am certain that if you took ‘Survivor,’ ‘The Voice,’ ‘Shark Tank,’ ‘The Apprentice’ and all the other shows I’ve done, over the next 25 years more people will see ‘The Bible’ miniseries than all those other projects combined.”
Roma is seen in the miniseries as well as serving as an executive producer along with her husband. She plays Mary, mother of Jesus, in scenes depicting the final chapters of his life story.
“We have a young actress of course playing Mary during the nativity and the early years of Jesus’ life, and 30 years go by. An early version of the script referred to that as Young Mary and Old Mary and when I stepped into [...]

Tom Cruise’s rep shoots down Scientology marriage story

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Vanity Fair’ has released an article that goes after Tom Cruise and his religion, Scientology, as it claims that the religion was used to recruit girlfriends and his former wife, Katie Holmes.
Now, Cruise’s rep is striking back against the article that says that Nazanin Boniadi was first selected to be his girlfriend in 2004 when she was shipped off to a Scientology center in Florida, states RadarOnline. “Lies in a different font are still lies — designed to sell magazines,” Cruise’s rep commented.
The search reportedly led to Holmes being chosen as his girlfriend and future wife. However, the two ended up finalizing their divorce last month.

Tom Cruise’s lawyer claims Scientology not a part of divorce settlement

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that Tom Cruise’s side wants to make it clear that Scientology was not a part of his divorce from Katie Holmes or a part of the divorce settlement they reached.
Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields, has commented that the divorce settlement did not involve talks of Scientology, states RadarOnline. “The Church of Scientology played absolutely NO ROLE in the divorce settlement talks at all. Period,” Fields commented.
There have been rumors that much of their divorce involved Holmes not wanting their daughter, Suri, taken into Scientology.

Nicole Kidman staying away from Tom Cruise divorce

HollywoodNews.com: Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes have a lot more in common these days as they have now both married Tom Cruise and split from him.
Kidman has been very quiet since news of the divorce filing broke, but that could partially be because her split from Cruise wasn’t so easy, states RadarOnline. While it seems like the Cruise/Holmes divorce is going to get messy, that is no different than Kidman’s rough split although he was the one who filed.
In that divorce, Cruise ended up with their two children who were raised in Scientology. Meanwhile, it seems Holmes is hoping to avoid that as she wants sole custody supposedly because she wants her daughter out of Scientology.

Katie Holmes allegedly afraid of Scientology organization

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that Katie Holmes drew the line in her marriage with Tom Cruise when it came to the future of their daughter Suri Cruise.
While it has been rumored that Katie filed due to Scientology, it is now being further rumored that she was specifically worried about Suri being placed in the Sea Organization, states TMZ. The organization is reportedly a place where Scientology children can be shipped off to at the age of five to go live without their parents while they learn about Scientology.
The program is reportedly hardcore and even a bit military-like.
Do you think this was why she filed for divorce?

Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise divorcing over Scientology?

HollywoodNews.com: It seems that it was Scientology that came in between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise which led to her filing for divorce.
It is now rumored that Holmes filed as Cruise’s ties to the religion were just too much for her as she never completely committed to Scientology, states TMZ. The main issue is allegedly in regard to their daughter, Suri, as she is at the age when Scientology would become a big part of her life if she were to go into the religion.
Holmes is apparently not into that happening which is allegedly why she filed for sole custody of their daughter.
Do you think Scientology split them up?

Hugh Jackman and Tony Blair launch global film competition

HollywoodNews.com: Today, Faith Shorts 2012, the Tony Blair Faith Foundation’s global short film competition, opens calls for entries from around the world. Any young person aged between 14 – 27 is invited to submit a short film showing how faith impacts their life and the lives of those around them.
These films will be judged by a high profile panel including: Tony Blair, Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Jet Li, Bollywood star Anil Kapoor, Oscar- winning producer David Puttnam, the Grand Mufti of Bosnia and British actress Dawn French. The winning filmmakers will be flown to London to have their films premiered at 195 Piccadilly, the home of BAFTA.
The Foundation is accepting film submissions from 29th March 2012, with the competition closes on 9th July. Faith Shorts is designed to be as accessible as possible. Those who don’t have access to film making equipment can apply to win a portable video camera, in order to enter the competition. This pitch competition also opens on 29th March and closes on 7th May 2012. Entrants need to outline their thoughts for a film to enter into the main competition, and the winning entries will be sent a small video camera with which they can film their entry.
Through sharing personal stories and providing insights to their world, young people are given the chance to correct some of the presumptions that exist around religion and religious views, and show that faith means different things to different people. This competition also counters the notion that religion is not only a source of conflict. For the last two years Faith Shorts has been inundated with stories of solidarity, strength and solace.
Last year a group of Canadian Baha’i rappers won the competition overall, producing a creative and uplifting rap encouraging young people to be agents of social change. A Christian Filipino film student focused on the darker side of religion and the way in which faith can be tested in moments of adversity and a Muslim high school student worked with her class in the UK to explore the true meaning of Islam.
Tony Blair, Founder and Patron of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and Faith Shorts Judge said:
“I am delighted to announce the launch of Faith Shorts 2012. Now in its third year, this global short film competition provides young people with a creative and [...]
