Taylor Lautner only partially at fault for “Abduction” bad reviews

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Friends and foes of The “Twilight Saga” films had their eye out for reviews of “Abduction,” the first film in which Taylor Lautner has played a leading role outside of “Twilight”, and one critical to establishing his reputation beyond the franchise. “Abduction” opened tonight, undoubtedly drawing Team Jacob fans to bolster audience ratings and box office sales. Yet, audience approval stood at 77%, with critical support at an abysmal 4%, per Rotten Tomatoes.
While some reviews of Lautner were scathing (Liam Lacey called him “stuck in werewolf mode – teeth-baring, squinting and chest-baring – failing to establishing the emotional foundation of a compelling protagonist”), most negativity related to the film as a whole. What is being called a weak screenplay and questionable directorial choices are being blamed for lackluster performances on the part of all of the stars. Wrote EW’s Owen Gleiberman, “”Abduction” is less a movie than a piece of engineering, a glumly ludicrous cat-and-mouse blowout designed to win Lautner male fans along with his girl demo. He’s not a terrible actor, but if he wants a career after the Twilight fades, he’ll pick better films.”

Bruno Mars single to feature on Twilight “Breaking Dawn” soundtrack

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: The “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1” soundtrack will be announced on Monday, September 26th, according to the official Twilight Saga Facebook and Twitter pages. Yet, one song has already been announced: Bruno Mars’ “It Will Rain” will be the first single to feature on the album.
The single will be released via iTunes on September 27th in every country except for the U.K, which will get the song in Early November. Per Billboard, Mars commented that “It Will Rain” will appear only on the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” soundtrack, and not on his own second album. “I personally think if I did this for the ‘Twilight’ soundtrack, then this is for the ‘Twilight’ soundtrack,” said Mars. “This is not for my album.”
Among other artists who fans will be looking for are Robert Pattinson (who played on the “Twilight” soundtrack and who was rumored to have recently spent time in the recording studio), and Muse (author Stephenie Meyer’s favorite band, who has featured on the soundtrack for all other Twilight Saga movies thus far). The soundtrack, in its entirety, will be available for purchase on November 8th.

Breaking Dawn Part I gets “final” posters

HollywoodNews.com: I’m a little busy today, so I’m using this ‘straight from the horses’ mouth’ press release worth of posters as a lazy attempt to drum up hits. Anyway, enjoy and I’ll hopefully have something more substantial later in the weekend.

Taylor Lautner unable to escape “Twilight,” Robert Pattinson

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Poor Taylor Lautner. Despite showing up to an MTV awards show sans the “Twilight” crew, Lautner’s brief black carpet interview with MTV correspondent James Montgomery focused on a question about Robert Pattinson. Lautner was attending the awards as a presenter, and to promote his new movie, “Abduction,” which releases on September 23rd. But, before he could get a word in edgewise about his film, Montgomery questioned Taylor about his ubiquitous “Twilight” co-star.
“I don’t know if you kissed, or were kissed by Mr. Robert Pattinson…” Montgomery began, alluding to a moment shared by Pattinson and Lautner at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. It came during an acceptance speech by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, who won yet another “Best Kiss” for “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” Taylor Lautner was a nominee for the same award, for a kiss he shared with Kristen Stewart for the same movie. As a joke, Pattinson ran into the crowd and planted a kiss on Lautner.
“I was definitely kissed by [Robert Pattinson],” Lautner clarified, as Montgomery continued for precious seconds along those lines, leaving no time for Lautner to speak about his upcoming film.
The irony endures. Pattinson’s kiss during the MTV Movie Awards seemed an attempt to recognize Lautner for his work in the “Twilight” films, given repeated MTV Movie Awards nominations (and repeated losses to none other than Pattinson himself). Yet, even months later, it seems that Pattinson’s gesture has given the press more excuses to grill Lautner about Pattinson. Let’s hope that the release of “Abduction” gives Lautner some of the solo recognition he deserves.

A glance at the Fall Movie Season

HollywoodNews.com: When we pundits and critics wring our hands about the death of original cinema, we are frankly talking mostly about the big-budget tent-poles and/or genre films that are released by major studios. In truth, there are plenty of films that qualify as original that are released year-round. We obsess on the remakes and reboots because they generally fall in the film-nerd-friendly genres that we obsess over.
But there are plenty of original films out there for those who want to obsess on more than just the comic book adaptations, the animated films, and the sci-fi and horror genres. Of the 98 films coming out between September and December (according to this week’s Entertainment Weekly ‘Fall Movie Preview’), only eighteen would theoretically qualify as a sequel, a remake, franchise revamp, or spin-off of a known property. They are -
In September, we have just the re-release of The Lion King in 3D, plus the Rod Lurie remake of Straw Dogs. In October, we have a Footloose remake, a prequel to The Thing, Paranormal Activity 3, a 3D-revamp of The Three Musketeers, and Johnny English Reborn. As we get into the holiday season, November brings us the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, Happy Feet Two, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part I, The Muppets, and Piranha 3DD. Finally, December brings us New Year’s Eve (technically a spin-off to last year’s Valentine’s Day), Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Brad Bird’s Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
Assuming I didn’t miss anything, that’s one re-release, one prequel, two spin-offs, two franchise revamps, three remakes, and nine sequels. That gives us just 18% of the film releases during the last third of the year that don’t qualify as at least somewhat original (by which we mean either completely original or adapted from a book, a play, or some other medium).

Designer will create ‘Breaking Dawn’ wedding dress replicas

HollywoodNews.com: All the ‘Twilight’ talk is largely focused on the wedding dress Kristen Stewart’s character will be wearing when she weds Robert Pattinson’s character, and now fans will have the chance to have that same dress.
Alfred Angelo, a wedding dress and bridesmaid dress manufacturer, revealed that he will be creating replicas of the ‘Breaking Dawn’ dress when the film comes out, states UsMagazine.com. The actual dress in the movie was reportedly designed by Carolina Herrera.
Angelo plans to unveil his replicas in late November after the film has finally been released.
Would you wear a replica wedding dress?

Robert Pattinson apparently wants a clothing line

HollywoodNews.com: It looks like Robert Pattinson may be the next celebrity doing what every celebrity seems to be doing these days.
Kellan Lutz, who is launching a clothing line this fall, revealed that his ‘Twilight’ costar, Robert Pattinson, may want in on the action, states UsMagazine.com. “Rob and I were talking about doing clothing lines, and he found out I was doing one and was like ‘I should do one,’” Lutz commented, adding that Pattinson’s line would be very “hipster.”
Considering Pattinson’s minimal style as he is usually seen in basic shirts and pants, the line is sure to appeal to just about every guy out there.
Do you think he’ll actually create a clothing line?

Robert Pattinson “ruined” bed in “Twilight” sex scene

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Robert Pattinson is claiming he “ruined” the bed used by he and Kristen Stewart to film the anticipated sex scene in their first installment of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.”
Something tells me “Twilight” fans wouldn’t kick RPatz out of bed for the damage he reportedly did.
“I wanted to have it as a line so much: ‘I bit through all the pillows. Every. Single. One.’ And then he’d start crying,” Pattinson tells EW for their Fall Movie Preview when talking about the sex scene, which he says is his favorite moment of the upcoming sequel.
“By the way, that’s what he should be ashamed of in the morning. All those beautiful pillows! Egyptian cotton! I ruined this bed!”
Pattinson’s co-star, Stewart, still says the couple’s wedding scenes were far more emotional, and she knows that “Twilight” fans will gush when they see Edward and Bella’s beautiful ceremony.
“It’s a trip to watch the wedding scenes, especially,” she says. “It was so volatile and emotional — I was being such a crazy person.”
Boo Boo Stewart agreed, adding, “[Billy Burke] made that scene really great because he had to walk [Stewart] down the aisle, and I think he really did a great job. … It was weird. I was sitting there and I was like, ‘This is actually really touching.’”

“Twilight” Producer On “Breaking Dawn” Pirate and MPAA Rating!

HollywoodNews.com: Wyck Godfrey, producer of the Twilight movies presented his new TV show Revenge to the Television Critics Association. Afterwards, I pulled him to the side to ask about the latest on Breaking Dawn and landed an exclusive scoop.
Readers know that Bella’s birth scene will be difficult to show on screen, because of the graphic descriptions of vampire labor. Godfrey said that director Bill Condon has a solid cut of the scene that should land a PG-13 from the MPAA.
“I have seen numerous cuts,” Godfrey said. “I think that process is taking place right now. We don’t have any word yet on the rating but I think we’re going to be okay. We’re releasing it PG-13 and it’s incredibly powerful already. It definitely captures what the book captures.”
Breaking Dawn has been split into two parts in order to fit as much of the book as possible into the movies. Part one should not run any longer than Twilight, New Moon or Eclipse though.
“We’re very close to locking picture on part one,” Godfrey added. “It’s about what the other three are, about two hours. I haven’t seen an assembly for Part 2, so we’ll start to get into it in December.”
The piracy case has been big news for Summit, but Godfrey clarified that his job is to focus on finishing the film. However, he supports the studio’s effort to hold the pirate accountable.
“It’s very important for people to understand that when you hack into people’s private e-mails and private systems to steal material that is not yours, that you’re going to get punished. It’ll work itself out. What happens with this, the material already got out. There’s nothing we can do about that. I do think it’s about just sending a message that in this day and age, you can find that stuff out through your own computer systems and experts who can track that stuff.”
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens November 18.
