“Harry Potter” theme park coming to Southern California

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: And this is how the “Harry Potter” legacy will live on: Through theme parks.
Now that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida has ironed out its kinks (or the most part, from what I’m hearing), plans are being revealed to expand the Potter experience to the West Coast with a second attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Sources tell The Wall Street Journal that the Southern California park will closely resemble the Florida facility, with a replica of Hogwarts Castle, rollercoasters, and themed restaurants that take their cue from J.K. Rowlings’ award-winning novels.
And if the idea takes off, the sky’s the limit, as WSJ report that similar parks could be opened “in such foreign territories as Japan, Singapore and Spain.”

Emma Watson voted most likely to succeed beyond “Harry Potter” franchise

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in more than eight “Harry Potter” films has been voted by an overwhelming majority (via the Parade 2011 Pop Culture Poll) as the actor most likely to succeed beyond the franchise.
Not only was Watson the landslide winner, with a confidence vote of 79%, only 2% of those polled believed her co-star Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, was most likely to succeed. Making up the balance was Daniel Radcliffe, who acted the role of the franchise’s namesake. Only 18% of respondents thought Radcliffe was most likely to succeed outside of “Harry Potter” fame.

Rupert Grint Wears ‘I Love Tom Felton’ Shirt

HollywoodNews.com: Thursday night at the ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ premiere at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in LA, costars James Franco, Freida Pinto, and John Lithgow were all there to celebrate the film’s release.
Co-star in the movie and ‘Harry Potter’ alum, Tom Felton was also at the event, and he brought along a special guest. Fellow ‘Harry Potter’ star, Rupert Grint, accompanied pal Tom to the premiere. Rupert “donned an ‘I Love Tom Felton’ t-shirt for his walk in front of press and paparazzi showing support for his ‘Potter’ mate,” according to the Huffington Post.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” – Review

HollywoodNews.com: There’s a palpable sense of finality in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” and it’s not just because it’s the last film in the series. From start to finish, it’s virtually all resolution, catharsis, or some kind of closure, and “the end” hangs heavy in the air no matter how casual or even comedic the proceedings are meant to be. But with virtually no real heirs to the success and longevity of this series, the final installment of the “Harry Potter” saga is a film that’s almost more sad to watch because of its significance than its story, because it offers a necessary reminder of the beautiful connection series achieve not just over multiple chapters but through characters their audience grow to know, love, and when they’re gone, genuinely miss.
The plot details are of such enormous significance that they’re almost irrelevant. The bottom line is that a battle between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) has been a long time coming, and its outcome may determine the fate of Hogwarts, if not the world at large as we know it. After undertaking Harry’s quest to find the Horcruxes which hold the key to Voldemort’s power, Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) join the fray to protect Hogwarts and its students from the attacking forces of Voldemort’s evil armies. In the meantime, the destinies of Harry’s friends, teachers and classmates are revealed as they join the epic showdown, and are themselves forced to decide whether his life is worth more than any other’s, much less their own.
Although I saw this film’s immediate predecessor, I am largely unfamiliar with the mythology and lore of the “Harry Potter” world, which was absolutely a detriment to my appreciation of many of the film’s subtleties. (Thankfully, the capacity crowd at a midnight screening on opening day reacted with the appropriate awe to keep me abreast of the most significant emotional payoffs.) Interestingly, however, the only thing one really needs to know in order to enjoy the film is who the main characters are and how they behave. For eight films, Harry has been shuttled through a gauntlet of expectations based on the proclamation that he is important; Hermione is the most astute and intelligent of the three, but occasionally gets flustered when put in a tough situation; and Ron has dutifully played sidekick for years while pining for Hermione, [...]

Rupert Grint thinks he’ll need counseling after ‘Harry Potter’

HollywoodNews.com: The ‘Harry Potter’ cast is in the middle of the premiere frenzy, something that might end up being too much to handle for them all.
Rupert Grint admits that he won’t know how to deal with everything once it all ends, states MTV. “I really don’t know what I’m supposed to do. Counseling. Just talk it all out,” Grint commented.
But for now, he is enjoying his final moments as Ron Weasley with the rest of the ‘Harry Potter’ cast.

Daniel Radcliffe gets his broadway cast two days off this week

HollywoodNews.com: If you were hoping to see Daniel Radcliffe perform this week on Broadway, better adjust your schedules. Thanks to Radcliffe, the musical revival of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” is dark tomorrow–Thursday–and Friday.
That’s because Daniel–who recently admitted to having had a drinking problem in an interview with GQ–is off to London. He’s got two days of international press and the UK premiere of “Harry Potter 7.2″ or “and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2.” Warner Bros. had to buy out two nights of shows so Radcliffe could join in the London festivities.
Today–Wednesday–he’s doing two shows before getting on the Warner jet. Next Monday, July 11th, “How to Succeed” is dark anyway, so Daniel can be at the New York premiere for “Deathly Hallows.” The next day he goes right back to work with an eight performance a week schedule.
What happens at the end of “Deathly Hallows”? I don’t want to spoil it if you haven’t read the book, but Harry is eaten by a giant spider, Hermione opens a tranny club in Lithuania, and Rupert Grint stars as Richie in the musical version of “Happy Days.” Or the Weasley family does a reality show on MTV.

Emma Watson Photos: Hot Hollywood Celebrity Photo Gallery of the Day

HollywoodNews.com: Our selected celebrity to be included in our “Hot Hollywood Celebrity Photo Gallery of the Day” is Emma Watson.

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an English actress and model who rose to prominence playing Hermione Granger, one of three starring roles in the Harry Potter film series. Watson was cast as Hermione at the age of nine, having previously acted only in school plays. From 2001 to 2010, she starred in seven Harry Potter films alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint; she will return for the final instalment: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. Watson’s work on the Harry Potter series has earned her several awards and more than $10 million. She made her modeling debut for Burberry’s Autumn/Winter campaign in 2009.
In 2007, Watson announced her involvement in two non-Harry Potter productions: the television adaptation of the novel Ballet Shoes and an animated film, The Tale of Despereaux. Ballet Shoes was broadcast on 26 December 2007 to an audience of 5.2 million, and The Tale of Despereaux, based on the novel by Kate DiCamillo, was released in 2008 and grossed over US $70 million in worldwide sales.
Early life
Emma Watson was born in Paris to Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both British lawyers. Watson has one French grandmother, and lived in Paris until the age of five. Following her parents’ divorce, she moved with her mother and younger brother to Oxfordshire. From the age of six, Watson wanted to become an actress, and for a number of years she trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school where she studied singing, dancing and acting. By the age of ten, she had performed in various Stagecoach productions and school plays, including Arthur: The Young Years and The Happy Prince, but she had never acted professionally before the Harry Potter series. “I had no idea of the scale of the film series,” she stated in a 2007 interview with Parade; “If I had I would have been completely overwhelmed.”
Harry Potter
In 1999, casting began for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (released as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States), the film adaptation of British author J. K. Rowling’s best-selling novel. Casting agents found Watson through her Oxford theatre teacher, and producers were impressed by her confidence. After eight auditions, producer David Heyman told Watson and fellow [...]

New Photo: Video Previews of “Deathly Hallows – Part 2″

HollywoodNews.com: “Harry Potter Weekend” has kicked off on ABC Family, and fans got a much-anticipated glimpse into what the future holds for Harry, Ron and Hermione with an exclusive preview of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which is due in theaters on July 15.
The first official photo from the film shows Harry standing on a bridge (presumably at Hogwarts), which was glaringly absent from Deathly Hallows – Part 1, as the trio of friends were on the run from the Death Eaters and Ministry employees now under the control of Lord Voldemort.
The video preview included clips of interviews with stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, producers David Heyman and David Barron, and director David Yates. Fans who read – and cried – through the final book will recognize key scenes in the video, although those same scenes will be considered spoilery for fans of the film series only. Either way, it is apparent that the eighth installment promises to be the most exciting, emotional and heartbreaking finale to what is one of the most successful franchises in film history.
But don’t take my word for it, view the video below and judge for yourself.

“Harry Potter Weekend” will continue throughout the weekend; details can be found here.

Neville Longbottom bloodied and battered in first Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

By Scott Mendelson
hollywoodnews.com: One of the most exciting moments of any of the Harry Potter books was in the final pages of the otherwise lackluster Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. There was about a paragraph where it was teased that Neville Longbottom, NOT Harry Potter was the ‘chosen one’ who would eventually confront and destroy Lord Voldermort.
The idea that Harry Potter would end up a supporting character in his own adventure, that the somewhat marginalized Longbottom was to be the true hero… that would have been an unexpected and daring narrative choice. But after tossing out the idea, Dumbledore quickly pooh-poohs the notion and once again asserts that Harry Potter is the would-be chosen one. It was the second time in just the last act of Order of the Pheonix, following the Voldermort vs. Dumbledore battle where I was hoping that Albus would finish off Tom Riddle right then and there, that JK Rowling had the chance to surprise us and take the stories in an unexpected direction I have no qualms about how the books turned out (books 6 and 7 were much better than 5), but it would have been a wonderful plot twist, leading into the ‘third act’ of the series, to completely turn the tables likes that.
