Natalie Portman, “Black Swan” – FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” closed AFI Fest 2010 Thursday night, sending several critics and Oscar pundits to Twitter post-screening to sing the film’s praises.
The words “brilliant” and “masterpiece” were used so often, I’m surprised they weren’t trending on the social media tool. And IndieWire’s Anne Thompson hit the nail on the head when it came down to the film’s chief Oscar chance.
“Black swan: it is portman vs. Bening now.”
Well, and probably Nicole Kidman and maybe Julianne Moore, as well, but you get the idea.
Portman does deliver a roundhouse-to-the-gut of a performance, one that the Academy needs to recognize (and probably reward). The actress guides us on a staggeringly deep descent into her character’s personal, insecure hell that, ghoulish as this sounds, entertains us – the captivated audience – with every self-doubting glance or terrified shiver of the ballerina’s crumbling body. Portman’s occupation of Nina’s psyche is complete. She is fearless, forceful, yet vulnerable. Yes, these are characteristics we attributed to Mickey Rourke when he danced with Aronosky for “The Wrestler,” and that’s why these projects are kindred spirits in more ways than one.

So Portman started winning fans on Thursday, just as she did in Venice, Telluride, Toronto, Savannah and beyond. She’ll earn even more when the film opens on Dec. 3. And even more, undoubtedly, when Oscar nominations are announced in January.

Justin Long injured in car accident, misses “Conspirator” premiere

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Robert Redford’s Civil War courtroom thriller “The Conspirator” screened at the Savannah Film Festival last night. It was the fest’s Director’s Choice, a screening that is kept secret from the general public until the moment the curtain opens.
But one of the film’s cast members who was supposed to be in town to help promote the film couldn’t make it because he was in a car accident.
Justin Long, who plays a Union soldier and compatriot to James McAvoy, was injured in a car accident in Los Angeles and received a minor concussion, preventing him from traveling to Savannah for the fest.
“He’s completely fine now,” a source told PEOPLE magazine.
Redford’s drama was filmed in Savannah, and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. It tells the story of Mary Surrat (Robin Wright), a woman who went on trial following the assassination of Abrahama Lincoln.
It was purchased by Roadside Attractions, and will be released Spring 2011.

“Jersey Shore” Season 2 sneak peak

Hollywoodnews.com: Prior to the MTV Movie Awards, the network aired a 13-minute tease of “Jersey Shore’s” second season.
BTW, there are spoilers here so don’t read any further if you don’t want to.
Per MTV News, the new season kicks off with the gang leaving Jersey for Miami as a huge snowstorm hits the Eastern seaboard. Declaring her mission to drink, kiss and tell, main protag Snooki declares: “I feel like I’m going to be like a tornado — going from place to place destroying things.” Soon after, Snooki and JWoww depart in a black SUV. The girls take a rest stop in Savannah, Georgia at a local bar where they dine on local eats. A local yokel attempts to swoon them, and Snooki suggests that the guy “f—s his sister for a living.” JWoww criticizes that the hick “doesn’t know how to hit on girls.” The guy really hits the skids with the girls when he attempts some Jersey fist-pumping.
Pauly D and “The Situation” en route to Miami, make a pit stop in Myrtle Beach for some fireworks. Their SUV gets stuck in the mud and they launch bottle rockets in the sky as a plea for roadside help.
Sammi “Sweetheart, driving south in separate vehicle, announces that she broke up with her guy Ronnie. Angelina, the self-professed “Kim Kardashian of Staten Island” tells viewers that she wants to show everyone her true side, not her bitchy side. Nonetheless, she’s looking forward to party.
The network will release the clip online at 9pm PST. The new season premieres on July 29.

Jude Law, Sienna Miller finally hear wedding bells

Hollywoodnews.com:Jude Law, 37, really loves his off again-on again g.f. Sienna Miller, 28.
Unintentionally following the latest craze of major celebs wedding their longtime mates (DiCaprio is rumored to be engaging his longtime Israeli model g.f. Bar Refaeli) Law plans to tie the knot with Miller in Gloucestershire, England this summer.
“They don’t want to jinx things by talking about it, but they have told their nearest and dearest that they would like to get married in the summer,” a source tells the U.K.’s Daily Mail.
Apparently there will be a second ceremony in New York. Miller wants her fashion designer sister Savannah to handle the gown. There’s further talk that the “G.I. Joe” actress wants a bohemian-style marriage.
Law originally engaged Miller in 2006 and called it quits after it was revealed that the “Road to Perdition” actor had a tryst with their nanny.
Law has three children with his first wife Sadie Frost and a love child with U.S. model Samantha Burke.
