‘Housewives of OC’ star talks being hesitant about marriage

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ star Gretchen Rossi has been dating her beau Slade Smiley for about three years now, but that doesn’t mean they will soon be walking down the aisle.
In the upcoming episode of the show, Rossi opens up to Tamra Barney about her hesitation with taking that next step, states UsMagazine.com. “I fell in love with him, not his bank account. However, it has been three years and things have been tough,” Rossi admits.
And it seems they won’t be rushing to the altar yet as Rossi is firm in her beliefs: “I’m financially sound, and I’m not willing to give that up. When you become married, things become community property, and I don’t want Slade’s creditors coming after me.”

‘Housewives of OC’ star’s beau involved in red carpet incident

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ star Gretchen Rossi has had to deal with a lot with her boyfriend Slade Smiley as he has been at the center of some child support drama.
Now, Rossi has her hands full as her beau was most recently verbally assaulted by a debt collector, states RadarOnline.com. The two were at Hollywood’s Supperclub when the collector commented on Slade allegedly owing $160,000 in back child support.
“Pay your child support! Your son has cancer!” the man yelled at Smiley.
However, Smiley took it in stride and tried to ignore the man.

‘Housewives of OC’ star addresses major fight

HollywoodNews.com: The ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ definitely started a little brawl on the most recent episode as old and new issues came to light during a game night among the women.
Gretchen Rossi is now addressing the way she acted and how she feels about Vicki Gunvalson, who was on the other side of the battle, states RadarOnline.com. “Obviously I am beyond upset in this episode, and I apologize for so many bad words being used,” Rossi started to explain.
However, she doesn’t feel blame should all be placed on her for the public fight: “Vicki started it all a few years back by claiming Slade [Smiley] was a deadbeat dad for the same exact reason her own boyfriend [Brooks Ayers] actually went to jail . . .for falling behind on child support.”
Now, she thinks Vicki needs to think before she speaks: “I have noticed that whenever Vicki is going through a hard time we are all suppose to stop and feel sorry for her, but low and behold if anyone else is dealing with a sick child (Slade) or a sick fiancé (me) or something difficult, it doesn’t seem to matter to her or what she says about them.”

‘Housewives of OC’ get vicious at castmate’s ’80s party

HollywoodNews.com: The ‘Real Housewives of Orange County’ seemed to be having a good time at a recent ’80s-theme party thrown by Tamra Barney, but it all stopped when Slade Smiley entered the room.
As Slade previously dissed some of the women during an improv show, the women take up their issues with him in the upcoming episode, states RadarOnline.com. “Are you all of a sudden a comedian?” Vicki Gunvalson comments at one point.
Eventually, as Slade tries to defend himself, Vicki has had enough: “Exit out stage left, piece of s**t.”

‘Housewives of OC’: castmates grow further apart

HollywoodNews.com: On the upcoming episode of ‘Real Housewives of Orange County,’ two of the cast members seem to be growing further apart as more problems in their relationship come up.
Gretchen Rossi has seemingly tried to maintain her friendship with Vicki Gunvalson, but Vicki’s new beau is apparently causing a few problems, states RadarOnline.com. Vicki has made a big deal of Gretchen’s beau, Slade Smiley, not paying child support, but now it seems the shoe is on the other foot.
Gretchen starts to have a big problem with Vicki as she finds out her beau, Brooks Ayers, has allegedly not been paying his child support.
“I have lost so much respect for her,” Gretchen comments on the episode as she has been defending Slade for so long.

Daredevil details from director David Slade

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: This may surprise you, but news that Marvel’s blind superhero Daredevil is getting a cinematic second chance has me more excited than, say, the nugget of info that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been added to Chris Nolan’s Batman sequel. We kind of know what we are going to get from Nolan. But Daredevil deserves better than what he received in 2003, and I’m hoping for brighter (well, actually, darker) things in his future.
Hiring director David Slade (“Hard Candy,” “30 Days of Night”) appears to be a step in the right direction. Even his “Twilight” installment, “Eclipse,” had a sharper edge than its predecessors. Now we’ll have to wait and see what material he has to work with.
But Slade took to Twitter on Sunday to elaborate on Daredevil, Wolverine, and more.
“Forgot to look at the internet for a few weeks and its a litany of false (and not so far off) rumours,” Slade Tweeted. “So without breaking confidentiality, yes Daredevil, we have a great outline for a very strong character driven take on Mr Matt Murdock. It will bare no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast.”
Though I’m not sure who asked (because this rumor didn’t seem to be making the rounds), Slade weighed in on the planned “Deadpool” film by saying, “Love DEADPOOL, was never engaged in the (quite fantastic) script, last I heard studio was looking at comedy directors. None of my business.”
He also chimed in on the Wolverine production, which recently lost Darren Aronofsky.
“There have been no discussions about this project to date,” Slade Tweeted. “Interesting to see what will happen with that as the again excellent script by Chris McQuarrie was set largely in Japan.”
Slade ends with, “So that’s all the news that’s fit to print.”
But if you are interested in Daredevil, comics or movies, Slade is one that you need to be following on Twitter.

Twilight “Eclipse” director David Slade thanks fans

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: Via the official Twilight Facebook site yesterday, “Eclipse” director David Slade posted a heartfelt thank you to the film’s supporters. The site is subscribed by upwards of 8 million followers, and both Slade and “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon use the platform to communicate with the Twilight public.
Slade’s comments focused on his gratitude at being part of such an enormous phenomenon, and shed light on how such unfathomable success is driven by fans. Said Slade, “When shooting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, I always felt an awareness of how many people this film would reach and as a result, knew that this film did not just belong to myself, the producers and the studio, but more so, to all of you, the fans of The Twilight Saga.”
Slade’s list of feature-length films prior to “Eclipse” was short, and limited to psycho-horror-thriller genres. Though previous works, such as “30 Days of Night” enjoyed their own brand of success, Slade is accustomed to making niche films with followings much narrower than that of Twilight.
“At the end of the day, after all the hard work is done, all that’s left is the film itself, and your overwhelmingly positive and supportive responses have made me feel like we must have done something right,” continued Slade. “As a filmmaker, this is a rare and strange feeling of connection with an audience of which I will never forget and I thank you all for it.”

“Eclipse” director, producer and screenwriter comment on their favorite scenes

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Making Of had the scoop on the “Eclipse” scenes nearest and dearest to key players’ hearts. Though the question is frequently asked of the stars, we rarely hear from the many others who make the films a reality. Making Of got great video commentary from screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, producer Wyck Godfrey, and director David Slade. Here are partial quotes, but be sure to check out the full interviews at MakingOf.com.
David Slade’s pick: the garage scene. “Actually, one of my favorite scenes is the garage scene between Jacob and Bella. I think it’s a lovely, measured performance scene. There’s a great sense of …I thought the performances were wonderful… It’s a purely dramatic moment…I felt like we nailed that one.”
Wyck Godfrey’s pick: Edward’s proposal. “She’s gone in with the idea ‘I’m gonna have sex as a human before I get turned into a vampire, and he has different things in mind…Rob, for one, was just not looking forward to this scene. He’s like ‘I’m just going to come across as sappy.’ But it was really just about him going in and being honest to Kristen in the scene…there’s an awkwardness he has in that scene that is really endearing that came from how kind of uncomfortable it was for him–as it is for any man who has to propose–when he doesn’t know whether she’s gonna say yes or not.”
Melissa Rosenberg’s pick: Bella telling Charlie she’s a virgin. “It is just a small character moment, but both of them do it so well. Billy Burke is just one of the…that man can deliver a line. He’s got this very dry sense of humor. The two of them together are very awkward and it’s very funny and sweet. I have to say, that’s probably one of my favorites.”

David Slade talks about making Edward character “dangerous” in Twilight film “Eclipse”

By Kim Palacios
HollywoodNews.com: In a recent interview with IGN, David Slade gave excellent commentary on his treatment of the sinister themes in “Eclipse”. Slade’s own directorial resume shows a bent toward darker pieces (e.g., vampire flick “30 Days of Night” and psycho-horror-thriller “Hard Candy“), the inclinations of which he admits he brings to the upcoming Twilight film.
“Of the three films so far, we were lucky. We got the best story. We got the most action. In terms of both the character histories, a lot of the origin stories, but also we have a battle, we have huge momentous fight, plus we have a newborn army. A lot of darkness in this film,” said Slade. “Aside from the love triangle theme we saw in the other Twilight films, we got another theme: vengeance. And, that is a theme that really delivers.”
Yet, it’s not just the villains in the film who are depicted darkly–rather, we are introduced to the darker sides of characters who endeared themselves to us in the earlier books. Said Slade, “One of my goals in doing the script was to make Edward scary, because he’s a vampire [at the] end of the day. There’s a carnivore beneath that surface, so we went out and we shot a lot of sequences that are all in the book geared towards just opening that character out, showing the potential of vampire as killer. And in the end, particularly in a sequence I don’t want to spoil about, he comes across as dangerous.”
The most interesting (and fun) aspect of Slade’s tone is his satisfaction around translating complex relationship dynamics to the physical aggression of a battle. “If you read the books you have an idea of the alliances that form together for the final battle…If you haven’t, then let’s just say there’s a lot of very, very devious, very scandalous stuff going [on] in the background with our villains. Then, an alliance that is still very, very difficult takes place, one that allows a battle to become a more of a massacre, which is great fun to watch.”
The interview can be viewed in its entirety on IGN.com

“Twilight” Facebook page achieves followership of 6 million fans

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: In a rare note to fans, “Eclipse” director David Slade made a lengthy posting yesterday on The Twilight Saga official Facebook page. The note acknowledged that a major milestone had been reached: the site has reached a followership of 6 million fans.
“I want to congratulate you for reaching over 6 million fans on The Twilight Saga Facebook page,” said the director. “It’s hard to fathom that it was just over one year ago that I started constructing this third and epic adventure which takes place in the town of Forks.”
Beyond his initial congratulatory statement, Slade went on to share a sentimental anecdote from the set of “Eclipse”. His story spoke of a particularly rainy night of shooting that soaked the entire cast and went on for hours, until the break of dawn.
“As we left, dawn was now cracking and in the dim light I passed a small army of fans who had braved the weather for the entire night, still standing there, holding drenched flowers and waiting to get a glimpse of our actors. So, to those of you who stood behind our security, who waited in line at theatres overnight, to those of you who just love these stories, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is a love letter to you.”
Sentimental, indeed! It sounds like Slade is feeling wistful as he nears the close of the project. His final remarks were as follows: “Each day I felt the weight of your favourite scenes, your favourite lines, your dreams and your imagination. It has been an unforgettable journey, and now as I finalise the last prints to ready the film for your local theaters, I cannot wait for you to see it.”
