Snow White revamp “Mirror Mirror” moves its date

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: We have two Snow White stories in the pipeline for 2012, and for a while, they were trying to create as much space between them as physically possible. Now they’re moving just a little closer, from a release-date perspective.
Relativity announced in a release that Tarsem Singh’s “Mirror Mirror,” a comedic take on the classic fairy tale, has moved its release back two weeks, from March 16 to March 30. While the move might give Singh some time to tighten up his finished film, it also puts its in direct competition with the anticipated 3D sequel “Wrath of the Titans.”
It also moves it a bit closer to its Snow White rival, Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman,” which reaches theaters on June 1.
Does it matter? Not likely. Based on existing trailers, the two Snow White projects couldn’t be more different in tone. And both will attract their respective audiences. “Mirror” fans just will have to wait a tad bit longer until they can see Lily Collins, Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer on screen.

Lily Collins admits auditioning for Kristen Stewart’s ‘Snow White’

HollywoodNews.com: Lily Collins will be playing Snow White in ‘Mirror, Mirror,’ but she almost could have been playing a different Snow White.
Collins recently admitted that she auditioned for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ which eventually went to Kristen Stewart, states UsMagazine.com. “I auditioned for it, but I’ve been so excited for Kristen. I think that story is so different than ours and the girls are so different. She’s perfect for her version,” Collins commented.
But, while the characters might be different, the girls will both be bringing plenty of action: “I’ve been fight training and fencing for about three months now. I was kickboxing, doing some stuff on wires. It’s been really intense.”

The two are starring in ‘Abduction’ together and were apparently meant to be, states UsMagazine.com. “You can feel some sort of chemistry or a connection when you are reading a script with someone for the first time. And that was totally the case with Lily,” Lautner told ‘Seventeen.’
Now, Lautner is excited to see Collins and his ‘Twilight’ costar Kristen Stewart take on different ‘Snow White’ roles.

Disney prepping its own Snow White feature set in China

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: And then there were three.
As Universal and Relativity race to the finish line with dueling Snow White productions — starring the likes of Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer and Julia Roberts — Walt Disney has revealed that it’s negotiating with director Michael Gracey to helm a live-action Snow White feature tentatively titled “Order of the Seven.” The Wrap reports that Gracey served as an animator on “Happy Feet” but also directed a wildly popular “Roller Babies” commercial for Evian, which won the Guinness World Record for the most-watched online ad.
Gracey would replace “Water for Elephants” director Francis Lawrence, who once was attached but has since moved on.
And while two Snow White films already are heading to theaters in 2012, we wouldn’t see Disney’s production until 2013. The Wrap confirms that the plot, set in China, replaces dwarves with “members of an order of warriors who meet up with an Englishwoman and protect her from an ancient evil.”

Will Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” be a trilogy?

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: According to producer Joe Roth, his “Snow White and The Huntsman” film is being positioned as a trilogy, a fact that has emerged rather late after months of speculative buzz. Scrutiny relating to the film has stemmed from the timing of its release, which will coincide with the release of a competing Snow White-themed film. While Roth’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” will star Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, the competing “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White” will star Lily Collins and Julia Roberts.
Said Roth to Entertainment Weekly in an exclusive interview, “This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters.” It is a surprising detail, given that a very in-demand Kristen Stewart just finished filming another lengthy fantasy series (a total of five “Twilight Saga” films); even when her role in the first film was announced, some worried that sticking with roles along these lines could only typecast the young actress as a hapless ingénue.
Yet, in his interview with EW, Roth insisted that his Snow White character will be different: “She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods.”

Kristen Stewart will have Ian McShane as a dwarf

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: At least one of Kristen Stewart’s seven dwarves will have a potty mouth.
That’s because “Deadwood” star (and current “Pirates of the Caribbean” villain) Ian McShane has been cast as one of Snow White’s pint-sized partners in Rupert Sanders’ “Snow White and the Huntsman.” McShane joins previously cast Stewart, Chris Hemsworth of “Thor” and Charlize Theron as the evil queen.
But THR says McShane isn’t playing Grumpy, Sneezy, Doc or Dopey. He’ll play Caesar, the “leader of the dwarfs.”
Now that Universal has revealed casting for its “Snow White” version, it’s time for Relativity to counter with some new regarding its production, directed by Tarsem Singh.
Until then, Sanders’ picture has an August production start, and Universal will release the film on June 1, 2012.

Kristen Stewart’s “Snow White” will open months earlier

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: With two “Snow White” pictures coming down the pipeline, positioning is key. This morning, one production made a move that the studio hopes will help it race to the front of the pack.
Universal shifted the release date of its “Snow White and the Huntsman” to June 1, 2012, giving it a multi-week head start over Relativity Media’s Snow White film, THR reports. Universal’s feature, which has Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles, originally was set to open in December.
The studio told the trade that “adjustments to the production timeline” had facilitated the move.
“As Rupert and Joe were finalizing casting and preproduction of Snow White and the Huntsman, we realized that the ambitious and fully-formed world they had promised was blowing away all expectations,” said Universal Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley in the announcement. “We’re thrilled that Universal will be bringing this singular version of a timeless story almost seven months earlier than anticipated.”
You know who’s not thrilled? Relativity. We’ll see if they sit still, or if they hurry their production to maybe leapfrog ahead of this “Snow White” in time.

Lily Collins cast as Snow White

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Mirror, mirror upon the wall. Who is the fairest fair of all?
Apparently it’s Lily Collins, how has been tapped to play Snow White in Relativity Media’s planned telling of the classic fairy tale.
Collins, daughter of legendary musician Phil Collins, joins Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer in the cast, The Wrap reports. Collins previously played Sandra Bullock’s teenage dauighter in “The Blind Side.” This summer, she’ll be seen alongside Paul Bettany in the vampire thriller “Priest.”
Relativity already revealed that Hammer, of “The Social Network,” will play Prince Andrew Alcott, while Roberts has been cast as the evil queen.
“Snow White” has a release date of June 29, 2012.

A-listers migrate toward fantasy film

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Fantasy film is the new trend among Hollywood’s hottest actors, with 2011 and 2012 queuing up a long line of classics. Players like Julia Roberts, Nicholas Cage (and, if rumors are true, Kristen Stewart), have signed on to play archetypal figures in well-known fairy tales not previously played by A-listers.
Both Relativity Media and Universal Pictures will film Snow White movies this year, with “The Brothers Grimm: Snow White” and “Snow White and the Huntsman” scheduled to release in June and December of 2012, respectively. Less-publicized than casting for the namesake role has been casting for the Evil Queen—Oscar-winner Julia Roberts has been confirmed for the former while fellow Oscar-winner Charlize Theron is slated for the latter. A starring role in “Snow White and the Huntsman” may go to Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, though the casting has not been confirmed.
Nicholas Cage will star in a modern-day adaptation of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”—the film will be distributed by Disney, which first featured a short based on the story in the animated classic, “Fantasia”. Amanda Seyfreid will play the starring role in “Red Riding Hood”, which will release in March of this year.
The fantasy genre was once one for unknown actors with the occasional B-lister in a cameo or minor role. Yet, the wild success of mega-franchises, such as Harry Potter, The Lord of The Rings, and, most recently, The Twilight Saga, encouraged the star-studded revival.

Kristen Stewart Rumored to Play Snow White

HollywoodNews.com: She’s toyed with the supernatural in the “Twilight” series and now, Hollywood’s top-grossing female actress of 2010 might be tackling the whimsy of fairy tales in her next sure-fire blockbuster film.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Kristen Stewart has been offered the role of Snow White, the fairest of them all, in Universal’s adaptation, Snow White and the Huntsman. Academy Award-winner Charlize Theron and two-time nominee Viggo Mortensen are also rumored to be attached to the project.
Like the forthcoming Red Riding Hood, which stars Mamma Mia! actress Amanda Seyfried, Snow White and the Huntsman presents a twist on the beloved fairy tale, detailing the friendship between Snow White and the Huntsman ordered to kill her. Rupert Sanders will be directing the film.
