NEW Photos Lady GaGa – Hollywood Entertainer of the Year

HollywoodNews.com: Our selected celebrity to be our “2011 Hollywood Entertainer of the Year” is Lady Gaga.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (/ˈstɛfəniː dʒʌrməˈnɑːtə/; born March 28, 1986), better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, is an American singer and songwriter. Born and raised in New York City, she primarily studied at the Convent of the Sacred Heart and briefly attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before withdrawing to focus on her musical career. She began performing in the rock music scene of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and by the end of 2007, was signed with Streamline Records. Employed as a songwriter for the record company, her vocal abilities captured the attention of recording artist Akon, who signed her to his label Kon Live Distribution.
Lady Gaga came to prominence as a recording artist following the release of her debut album The Fame (2008), which was a critical and commercial success that topped charts around the world and included the international number-one singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”. After embarking on the Fame Ball Tour, she followed the album with The Fame Monster (2009), which spawned the worldwide hit singles “Bad Romance”, “Telephone” and “Alejandro” and allowed her to embark on the eighteen-month long Monster Ball Tour, which later became one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time. Her most recent album Born This Way (2011) topped the charts of most major markets and generated more international chart-topping singles that include “Born This Way”, “Judas” and “The Edge of Glory”. Beside her musical career, she involves herself with humanitarian causes and LGBT activism.

John Mayer Says He Was a ‘Tweetaholic’

HollywoodNews.com: Singer/songwriter, John Mayer admitted recently that he is indeed, addicted to Tweeting on Twitter.
John explains that he had about four million followers and was allegedly on it all the time. “The musician tells Rolling Stone, ‘I realized about a year ago that I couldn’t have a complete thought anymore’,” according to E! online.
He stated: “I stopped using Twitter as an outlet and I started using Twitter as the instrument to riff on, and it started to make my mind smaller and smaller and smaller. And I couldn’t write a song.”
Now, John is off Twitter and made new rules for himself: “No drum machines, no loops, no keyboards to start out with, no excuses, no breaks, no laptops, no nothing.”
Does anyone think they are a ‘Tweetaholic’?

Lady Gaga describes claims of plagiarism as “retarded”

HollywoodNews.com: Lady Gaga might have a bit of apologizing to do in the near future as she recently dropped a word in an interview that many believe the usage to be inappropriate.
In a recent interview with ‘NME’ magazine, Gaga addressed the recent claims of plagiarism and described the situation as “retarded,” states UsMagazine.com.
“I’m a songwriter. I’ve written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I’m getting one over on everybody? That’s retarded,” Gaga said about “Born This Way” being like Madonna’s “Express Yourself.”
Gaga further defended her song by explaining the similarities: “If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years.”
Do you think Lady Gaga should apologize for using that word?

‘Burlesque’ released on DVD today

By Greg Hernandez
HollywoodNews.com: It may have been nominated for a few Razzies and didn’t break any box office records but I quite enjoyed ‘Burlesque’ which was Christina Aguilera’s film debut and Cher’s return to films after a far too long hiatus.
The flick is out on DVD today and you just know that I’ve got to own it.
It is destined to join such gay faves as ‘Steel Magnolias,’ ‘Beaches,’ and Cher’s ‘Mermaids’ as the kind of guilty pleasure you watch over and over again. It’s not that these movies are masterpieces, but they all star icons having one helluva time on screen.
‘Burlesque’ is Cher’s first starring role in ages and she plays the owner of a club on Sunset Boulevard called the Burlesque Lounge which is on its last legs. In walks a young girl from Ohio played by Christina Aguilera who can sing and dance like nobody’s business. But we won’t know that for awhile. She’s just serving drinks and hoping for a chance to audition to be one of the dancers at the club.
This is the perfect showcase for Aguilera’s film debut. She’s got the pipes to make you believe that once she gets to perform, she’s such a sensation that attendance soars and she is the toast of the town.
She and Cher have some good scenes together with the best being when Cher teaches the younger diva how to put on make-up.
The rest of the cast is filled with talented folks led by Stanley Tucci who plays Cher’s gay best friend and right hand man. It’s a fun chemistry Cher and Tucci share and I love that we get to see his character pick up a really cute guy at a wedding and bring him home.
Alan Cumming plays an employee at the club who does some performing but this talented man, a Tony winner for Cabaret, is woefully underused in this film. Peter Gallagher plays Cher’s ex-husband and business partner and it’s always nice to see this handsome guy in anything. Speaking of handsome, Eric Dane is also in the movie looking very McSteamy as a businessman with an eye for Aguilera and on Cher’s club.
The main male character is a bartender (and songwriter) played by Cam Gigandent who becomes Aguilera’s roommate and eventually her love interest. He is very, very sexy in this film!
Also noteworthy is Kristen Bell as a boozy bad girl dancer seriously jealous of [...]

What it’s like to work with Justin Bieber

HollywoodNews.com: Justin Bieber seems to have kept his modesty despite the money he is making and the millions of fans he has at the young age of 16.
Songwriter Ester Dean has been working with Bieber lately on his ‘Never Say Never’ soundtrack and is amazed at how humble the teen is, states PopEater. When opening up about when they first met, Dean revealed Bieber’s demeanor: “He was like, ‘Oh my God … I’m such a fan of your songwriting!’ And I’m like, ‘You’re a fan? [laughs] I’m a fan of your music!’”
And apparently Bieber is nothing but great to get to work with: “He’s a very talented guy. He was very easy to work with and was very nice.”
Do you think Justin Bieber has remained humble despite his fame?

‘Hannah Montana Forever’ soundtrack to feature Sheryl Crow

HollywoodNews.com: The hit TV Series “Hannah Montana” has produced new music that has become the biggest, fastest success the pop album charts have seen in years — with #1 soundtracks and combined sales of over 12 million CDs to-date — will be available in the fourth season soundtrack Hannah Montana Forever — featuring actress and pop superstar Miley Cyrus collaborating with Iyaz, Sheryl Crow and Billy Ray Cyrus. The album will be available in stores and at online retailers October 19 on Walt Disney Records.
The Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack will have its broadcast debut on Radio Disney’s Planet Premiere feature with host Ernie D on Sunday, October 17 (7:00 p.m., ET/ 4:00 p.m., PT) with a rebroadcast on Monday, October 18 (12:00 p.m., ET/ 9:00 a.m., PT). Two tracks, “Are You Ready” and “Ordinary Girl,” have already hit the Top 5 on Radio Disney’s Top 30 Countdown this summer. Fans can also sneak preview the album online at RadioDisney.com for a limited time, beginning October 16.
The album covers much musical ground, from intimate ballads to straight-up high-voltage pop. “Gonna Get This” is a synth-laden pop duet between Miley and the Caribbean-based singer Iyaz, while the harmony-rich “Need a Little Love” pairs Miley with legendary singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. Miley and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, sing together the ballad “Love That Lets Go,” a fitting tribute to their close relationship, both on screen and off. The sentiment continues on “Been Here All Along” and the wistful farewell, “I’ll Always Remember You.” But the album kicks into high gear with upbeat rockers like “Kiss It Goodbye,” “I’m Still Good,” and the club anthem “Are You Ready.” The soulful “Ordinary Girl,” “Que Sera” and the explosive pop of “Barefoot Cinderella” round out the album’s 11 tracks.
The accomplished songwriters who contributed to the soundtrack include: Toby Gad (Beyonce, Fergie, Alicia Keys), “Glee’s” Adam Anders (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “Hannah Montana The Movie,” “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”), Jamie Houston (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “High School Musical,” Miley Cyrus, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock), Mitch Allan (produced and co-wrote with Jessi Alexander “I’ll Always Remember You,” Chris Daughtry, Faith Hill, “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “StarStruck”), Jessi Alexander (“The Climb,” Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood), Joacim Persson and Niclas Molinder (“JONAS L.A.,” “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “Cheetah Girls One World,” Charice, Ashley Tisdale) and with [...]

Katharine McPhee to travel across the country to volunteer at food banks

HollywoodNews.com: Singer-songwriter Katharine McPhee made her mark on the music world after finishing as a runner-up on the fifth season of “American Idol.” However, now she is using her music and star status to help feed children who don’t know where their next meal will come from.
ConAgra Foods has partnered with Feeding America to create the Hunger-Free Summer initiative whose goal is to provide at least 25 percent more meals for children in need over the next five years, and will account for a significant portion of ConAgra Foods Foundation’s goal of delivering one million meals to children in need this summer.
McPhee stated, “This summer, I am going to be traveling across the country to Feeding America food banks from Orlando to Los Angeles – to volunteer my time and, more importantly, to raise awareness about this important issue. I want to challenge every community to come together to help end child hunger in the United States.”
During the school year, 19.5 million children receive free and reduced-price meals at school. But during the summer months, only 2.2 million children participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), coordinated by many Feeding America food banks across the country. That leaves millions of children at risk of hunger during the summer when school is out. The Hunger-Free Summer initiative aims to close that gap through a $5 million donation from the ConAgra Foods Foundation to Feeding America.
Throughout the month of July, McPhee will travel across the country to other Feeding America food banks to raise awareness. Upcoming locations and dates include:
- Irvine, Calif. – Monday, July 12
- Little Rock, Ark. – Wednesday, July 14
- Houston, Texas – Week of July 26

Kelly Rowland’s “Commander” hits #1 on Billboard’s Dance Chart

HollywoodNews.com: Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland’s latest single “Commander” featuring david Guetta has just hit number one on the Billboard Dance/Club Play songs chart. Named by Entertainment Weekly as this year’s “Summer Jam No. 1,” “Commander” was produced by renowned dance guru David Guetta and written by Grammy winner Rico Love, whose songwriting credits include hits with Beyoncé, Nelly, and Usher, among others. The combustible club reaction to “Commander,” which is a Top 10 hit on the UK Singles chart, marks the second colossal collaboration for ROWLAND and Guetta, whose 2009 Grammy-winning smash, “When Love Takes Over,” from Guetta’s album, One Love, skyrocketed to the top of the charts around the world.
