Steven Tyler on why he used to dislike ‘American Idol’

HollywoodNews.com: Steven Tyler may be a judge on ‘American Idol,’ but that doesn’t mean he was always a fan of the reality competition show.
Tyler is admitting that he used to think the show “sucked” before he got involved, states Hollyscoop. “How can the kids be American Idols, they haven’t played clubs, they haven’t paid their dues, they haven’t done what we did?” Tyler commented.
But, he quickly learned that the ‘American Idol’ contestants did have skills that needed to be discovered: “How does a 15 year-old sing like that and never done a club? How does that happen? That’s this. That is the gift and that’s what we’re looking for.”

Who could have ended up an ‘American Idol’ judge

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ has sort of been reborn after Simon Cowell decided to leave, but it sounds like the show could have been very different if other judges had been chosen.
It is being revealed that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez weren’t the immediate choices for the show, states The Hollywood Reporter. Mariah Carey, Shania Twain and Harry Connick Jr. were reportedly on a list of over 40 people being considered.
However, Lopez was also on that list and made the cut, but Tyler was randomly suggested and apparently pretty much got the role upon meeting with executives.

‘American Idol’ final three show why they are there

HollywoodNews.com: The final three on ‘American Idol’ performed last night and they all wanted to prove why they should be in the big finale.
Haley Reinhart had both a tumble and success with the first song as she performed Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be,” states People. While she did trip on stage, she recovered and had Randy Jackson stating that it was one of her best performances.
Scotty McCreery was given Thompson Square’s “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” for his second song and impressed the judges as he received a comparison to Garth Brooks.
Lauren Alaina seemed to come on strong with the final song as she performed Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” Steven Tyler commented that she sang it “perfectly” with Jennifer Lopez commenting, “You just gave me goosies from head to toe.”
Who do you think will move on to the final show?

Inside ‘American Idol’ and the salaries

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ has been quite the money-maker for FOX, so it would make sense that the judges and Ryan Seacrest bring in nice salaries for their hard work.
‘Idol’ reportedly brings in about $7.11 million/episode and everyone benefits from that, states Hollyscoop. Seacrest reportedly makes $15 million a year on the show and will make that for the next three years.
Jennifer Lopez allegedly brings in $12 million for her judging role while Steven Tyler tops them both at $18 million.
Unfortunately, Randy Jackson reportedly only makes $5 million despite being the only original judge left at the table.

‘American Idol’: who seems to be the leader?

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ is winding down and now the really great contestants seem to be pulling away a little.
On last night’s show, the final five sang a contemporary song and a classic one, states People. And the judges seem to think that James Durbin is starting to run away with the show.
“This competition, it’s yours to lose,” Randy Jackson told him while Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler agreed that his performance was incredible.
Scotty McCreery received better reviews than usual, while Haley Reinhart hit high with “The House of the Rising Son,” but struggled with Lady Gaga’s “You and I.” Lauren Alaina also did well for the night in the eyes of the judges.
Unfortunately, Jacob Lusk didn’t impress with “No Air” by Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown as Jackson said it was “corny.”

Steven Tyler airing solo video on “American Idol”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Jennifer Lopez did it. Now her counterpart on the “American Idol” judge’s panel plans to join her.
Steven Tyler, the longtime singer of rock outfit Aerosmith, will release his first solo track, “(It) Feels So Good,” and he’s using his various “Idol” platforms to get the tine across to as large an audience as possible.
Tyler will debut the show on “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest’s L.A. radio program on May 9, while THR reports that the singer will take a page out of Lopez’s playbook by airing a video for the song on “Idol” on Thursday, May 12.
“It’s everything you would expect to get from a classic Aerosmith video,” says a source who has seen the clip. “Without giving too much away, think: pure, classic Steven Tyler in all of his rock star glory.”

‘American Idol’s’ Steve Tyler just gets high off the show

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ judge Steven Tyler has been through a lot with his rocker past, but now he’s as squeaky clean as the reality show he is on.
The new judge is admitting that all he needs now to get him going is ‘Idol,’ states People. “If you think going out in front of high-def cameras and millions of people I’m not high on adrenaline, you’re crazy,” Tyler admitted.
And while he’s getting a natural high now, one smell is helping out: “I don’t snort J. Lo either, though I do breathe her in.”

Pia Toscano seems surprised by “American Idol” vote-off; Jennifer Lopez cries

By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Could “American Idol” contestant Pia Toscano have been overconfident in her position? From the look on her face, her elimination came as the biggest surprise to the singer herself.
Jacob Lusk and Stefano Langone joined Toscano in the bottom three; though it was the chanteuse’s first time in the hot seat, she didn’t make the cut. The singer was near tears when asked to sing her final song, “I’ll Stand By You” and broke down completely after the closing bars.
“I have no idea what just happened here,” said a tearful Jennifer Lopez. “I’m shocked. I’m angry. I don’t even know what to say.” Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler both echoed Lopez’s sentiments, with Tyler calling America’s “lack of passion…unforgivable”.
Yet, statistically speaking, it is no surprise that Toscano did not make it to the top 8. Historically, men have outperformed women in the top 10, and contestants from the American south have overwhelmingly won.

‘American Idol’ judges use save on Casey Abrams

HollywoodNews.com: ‘American Idol’ got a little dramatic when much loved Casey Abrams was voted off the show, but then saved by the judges.
Abrams fell into the bottom two, but had the chance to perform for a save, states RadarOnline.com. Abrams then went for Ray Charles’ “I Don’t Need No Doctor,” but was cut off by judge Randy Jackson.
Steven Tyler then revealed that they were using their one save of the season on Abrams, who then promised to make the judges proud.
Do you think Casey Abrams was right for the save or should they have held onto it?

‘American Idol’: Who handled Motown and who didn’t

HollywoodNews.com: Last night, ‘American Idol’ contestants took on Motown and some of them managed to pull it off while others struggled.
A clear favorite with the judges and crowd was Jacob Lusk who sang “You’re All I Need to Get By,” states People. Steven Tyler was so into the performance that he ended up getting up on stage and hugging Lusk.
Pia Toscano kind of got mixed reviews for her performance of “All in Love is Fair.” While Jennifer Lopez said she was lacking in performance dynamic, Randy Jackson just complained about too many power ballads. However, Steven Tyler had Pia’s back and said she was “the closest thing to a star” this season.
For the most part though, contestants did well overall and didn’t hear too much harsh criticism from the judges.
