“The Hunger Games” go mobile

Kabam, a world leader in free-to-play games for traditional players, today announced that it has partnered with Lionsgate, the premier next generation global content leader, to create a mobile game based on the global blockbuster movie franchise The Hunger Games.
Kabam will produce an exclusive role playing, card collection mobile game that will deliver the action of the blockbuster film into the hands of avid fans around the world. In the game, players assume the identity of District members sent on a mission in order to build their alliance, liberate their District, and rebuild Panem.
‘Lionsgate has an unparalleled track record of developing and producing blockbuster movie franchises like The Hunger Games,’ said Kabam Chief Operating Officer Kent Wakeford. ‘Partnering with Lionsgate, Kabam will build a mobile game that’s as much fun to play as the movie is to watch.’
The blockbuster The Hunger Games franchise, starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, is a global phenomenon whose first two installments have grossed more than $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the 10th highest-grossing domestic release of all time. The next two installments of the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, will be released on November 21, 2014, and November 20, 2015, respectively.
‘We are so pleased to be working with Kabam to give the fans an experience like they have never had before,’ said Danielle DePalma, Lionsgate?s EVP of Digital Media. ?Being able to role-play with the mentors straight from the world of The Hunger Games will let fans feel as if they are in the middle of the action.?
The game will be developed in Kabam’s China studio, the same place where the hit movie based game The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth was created and went on to generate more than $100 million in revenue during its first year.
Deep Hollywood relationships and access to blockbuster intellectual property (IP) is a key differentiator for Kabam in the free-to-play games sector. Kabam is a leader in taking an established film and extending that brand into mobile and web games that create new levels of engagement for global audiences long after a movie?s theatrical run. Kabam has experienced massive growth since its founding as a games company a little more than four years ago. The company now has more than 800 employees in offices throughout North America, Europe […]

Donald Sterling Talks: “I’m not a racist and I’ve never been a racist.”

Anderson Cooper sat down for an exclusive interview with Donald Sterling today in Los Angeles.
Below sound bites from the interview.
Donald Sterling: I’m not a racist, I made a terrible, terrible mistake. And I’m here with you today to apologize and to ask for forgiveness for all the people that I’ve hurt. And I’ve hurt so many people. So many innocent people and I’ve hurt myself. you know I spoke to a girl that I was fond of. When I listen to that tape, I don’t even know how I can say words like that. I’m so sorry, I’m so apologetic
Anderson Cooper: What are you sorry about.
DS: well I’m sorry that so many people are hurt. I never dreamed that this could happen it’s a terrible, terrible nightmare.
My players, they didn’t need this. they didn’t need this cloud over their head.
their good people and I love them and respect them and I would always be there for them.
AC: when you saw them..
DS: And for them to hear that I’m a possible racist is so painful to me cuz I’m not a racist and I’ve never been a racist. it’s not me.
AC: when you saw the players wear their warm up jerseys in reverse so the Clippers name wasn’t on, what did you think?
DS: I really didn’t pay attention, they are clippers and their mine and I’m theirs. that’s how I feel. I would do anything for them, I made a mistake I hope it’s in their heart to forgive me for that mistake.
I don’t know why the girl had me say those things.
AC: You’re saying you were set up?
DS: Well yes, I was baited I mean that’s not the way I talk. I don’t talk about people for one thing, ever. I talk about ideas and other things, I don’t talk about people.
AC: do you know how the tape got released?
DS: No,
AC: do you think she did it?
DS: I don’t know, an 80 year old man is kind of foolish, and I’m kind of foolish. I thought she liked me and really cared for me. I guess being 51 years older than her, I was diluting myself.
AC: do you trust her now?
DS: no, I don’t trust her and I just wish I could ask her why? And if she was just setting me up, I think that people say she was taping me for 2 years. So maybe I was just […]

Star Trek – William Shatner and the Alien Gorn Settle 40-Year Feud

More than four decades after they first squared off on an isolated desert planet, William Shatner comes face-to-face again with the menacing Gorn species of STAR TREK fame to settle a longstanding feud… but this time the battle begins on a comfy sofa with the two former foes seated in front of a video screen as they fight again in promotion for the April 23 release of STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME.
The original Kirk-Gorn duel was seen in the classic 1967 “Arena” episode of the STAR TREK series.
In the promotional video released today exclusively on Yahoo! Movies (http://movies.yahoo.com), Shatner and the Gorn are seen casually playing STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME when an onscreen dispute leads to a friendly fight re-enacting actual choreographed punches from the classic TV brawl blow-for-blow. This time, however, couch pillows replace the space rocks that were thrown the first time around.
“What better way to spotlight the adventure and fun everyone can have actually playing as Capt. Kirk in the new game, than to team up the legendary former captain himself to play one of his old foes,” commented LeeAnne Stables, President of Consumer Products at Paramount Pictures, the studio releasing the game. “Mr. Shatner is such a great sport and that Gorn had absolutely no chance of coming out on top this time.”
After spending a day on the set with the Gorn to create the video, veteran actor Shatner, who originated the role of Capt. Kirk in Star Trek: The Original Series, added: “It never ceases to amaze me how many people still ask me about that scene. It’s 46 years later, and he hasn’t aged as well as I have.”
The highly anticipated STAR TREK: THE VIDEO GAME features a vastly updated version of the Gorn as the key foe to legendary duo Kirk and Spock. Players take on the roles of Kirk and Spock, who work together to get to the heart of a mysterious attack by an enemy with unimaginable strength – a re-imagined version of the Gorn. In an entirely original story, written by BAFTA award winner Marianne Krawczyk, the Gorn is a terrifying threat, with an army that could overwhelm Kirk, Spock and the crew of the Enterprise.
The all-new video showdown between the two STAR TREK icons can also be found online at www.startrekgame.com starting March 29, and highlights the co-op play that is […]

What’s Wrong with Steve Jobs Movie?

“Jobs” or “jOBS” or however you want to spell it, will not be coming to a theater on April 19th. The movie about Steve Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher, has been yanked from its April 19th opening date.
Open Road Films says it needs more time to market the film. But “Jobs” received lukewarm reviews from its opening at Sundance. And now Apple is having stock problems. They’re also being pelted by Samsung and other companies.
Suddenly, Apple — hard to believe — is getting baked. Open Road says it chose April 19th because it’s the Apple anniversary date. But if they wait until May, they’ll be butting up against summer releases. Until August, the schedule is not that conducive to releasing a middling movie with a so so TV actor. We may not see “jOBS” for a while. Maybe they should time it to the release of the iPhone 6. Or 7.
