Mario Lopez reportedly co-hosting ‘X-Factor’ with Khloe Kardashian

HollywoodNews.com: It sounds like ‘X-Factor’ is almost all set to go as it is rumored that Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian have been chosen to co-host.
While Khloe has been talked about as the front-runner for some time, it seems Mario will be right up there with her, states The Washington Post. Mario has quite a bit of hosting experience under his belt, so it might be a good mix as he can help Khloe with this new gig.
No formal announcements have been made as it is also rumored that E! is slightly a problem as they don’t want Khloe taken away from filming her reality TV shows.
Do you like these two as co-hosts?

Jimmy Eat World are back with “Invented”

HollywoodNews.com: Jimmy Eat World’s sixth studio album “Invented” is available in stores and digitally today. The album marks the reunion of the band and producer Mark Trombino who served as producer on the band’s two biggest selling albums “Clarity” and “Bleed American.” The deluxe version of the album is currently the #4 best seller on iTunes.
First single “My Best Theory” has quickly stormed up the Modern Rock charts and now is the #3 song at the format. New York Magazine wrote: “The pounding single “My Best Theory” from Jimmy Eat World’s forthcoming album, Invented, reminds us that emo used to actually rock, not whine.” The band recently performed a blistering rendition of the song on Late Show with David Letterman this past Friday, September 24. The heavily science fiction influenced video for “My Best Theory” made its debut last Friday.
The band started a tour across the U.S. on September 21 and has been playing to packed houses. The Washington Post wrote about a stop in DC that “they sounded as fiery as ever, like classic rock power ballads ramped up to the speed of punk.”
As Spin wrote in its review of Invented “These influential Arizonans have been churning out carefully calibrated emo-rock jams for so long that you kind of wish they’d lengthened the title of their….album by a few words: Jimmy Eat World Invented This Shit…” Jimmy Eat World is one of the standards and strongest voices of rock over the last decade, Invented is set to prove that they’ll be a major force in the upcoming decade.

Robyn returns to North America for fall headlining tour

HollywoodNews.com: Cherrytree Records recording artist Robyn – the Swedish singer-songwriter hailed as the “hipster-fave electro star” by Time Out New York – will return to North America this fall for a headlining tour. Tickets are on sale now for the outing, which launches November 5th in Miami Beach, FL at The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason and includes stops at New York City’s Terminal 5 (November 10th) and Club Nokia in Los Angeles (November 17th). The Chicago and Vancouver dates have already sold out. Maluca and Natalia Kills will open on the tour, which will conclude at The Warfield in San Francisco on November 23rd.
Spin named Robyn’s “All Hearts” tour as one of the “25 Must-See Summer Tours.” “[Robyn] swept New York City’s Webster Hall into a frenzy so wild that it threatened to collapse the floors of that historic venue and send the sold-out crowd straight to their calamitous deaths, still dancing,” said EW.com. ”I’ve rarely seen a singer…connect so thrillingly.” She’s been described as “an overwhelming stage presence” (The Washington Post), “a dance-pop dynamo who wears her heart on her sleeve” (The Boston Globe) and “equal parts Debbie Harry austere, Cyndi Lauper whimsical, and Nina Persson sweet” (Spin). The Los Angeles Times praised her “muscular, hard-hitting energy” while the Boston Herald noted, “she delivered the total package as a performer: intense irresistible songs, distinctive, powerhouse vocals and dance moves that both mirror and interpret her music.”
”’Don’t fall recklessly, headlessly in love with me,’’ Robyn warns in ‘Hang with Me.’ Oops, too late,” said Entertainment Weekly, awarding her new album, Body Talk PT 2, an “A.” Rolling Stone called it “another batch of great, club-ready songs” in a 3 ½ star review and put the album on its “buy these now” list. People also gave the album 3 ½ stars, praising its “body shaking tunes” and the “dreamy, pulsating” lead single, “Hang with Me.” Body Talk PT 2, the second in a trilogy of albums Robyn is releasing this year on Cherrytree Records, features collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Diplo, Klas Ahlund, Carl Bagge, Kleerup and Savage Skulls.
Body Talk PT 1, which was released in June, was called “the best pop album of the year” by US Weekly. The New York Times found the collection’s single, “Dancing On My Own,” “sublime” while Spin named it one of the 20 best songs of the summer. The Body Talk trilogy follow [...]

Hollywood Movie Roundup: ‘Avatar’ takes on ‘Takers,’ ‘Exorcism’

HollywoodNews.com: Summer is almost over and with a number of major tentpoles out of the way, studios are taking risks at the box office.
“Avatar: Special Edition” will be in play at 811 venues – theaters that are strictly 3D Digital or Imax hubs. James Cameron has been on a press tour for the film — one of its new intriguing sequences being the 20 second Na’vi sex scene – and he believes that there’s an audience out there who hasn’t seen the film in 3D and wants to see it again; even if they watched it on DVD.
B.O. analysts think “Avatar: Special Edition” could gross anywhere from $5-$20 million. Already the sci-fi Oscar Best Picture nominee has become the highest grossing at the global B.O. with $2.7 billion. $750 million of that figure was made in the U.S. and Canada.
The Tomatometer has yet to log reviews for the new cut of “Avatar.”
Screen Gems/Sony’s actioner “Takers” and Lionsgate’s “The Last Exorcism” will vie for top slots on the charts and are predicted to make $15-20 million each. “Takers” tells the story of a $20 million bank robbery gone awry and stars Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown and Zoe Saldana among others.
“Takers,” which cost $32 million, will play in 2,206 theaters. It has scored a 27% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. Most critics have yet to file more reviews, but Lou Lumenick of the New York Post liked the film exclaiming, “A Michael Mann-ish heist thriller with a pulse-pounding foot chase and some terrific stunt work offsetting its hackneyed plot and dialogue.”

Lionsgate’s looks to be in the black on “Last Exorcism” which was independently financed for $2 million and was picked up by the distributor for a similar amount. Horror is the studio’s forte and they have plugged the film around the internet.
“Exorcism” is booked at 2,874 theaters and its PG-13 ratings is a plus to lure in teens.
“Exorcism” follows a Louisiana preacher’s final termination of a devil-possessed teen on a rural farm and the unexpected challenges he faces. “Exorcism” is receiving a very nice 69% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Sean O’Connell, writing for the Washington Post, exclaims “Exorcism” as “an anxious psychological horror that’s vaguely familiar yet refreshingly original.”

Hollywood Movie Roundup: ‘Despicable Me’ appeals to all as ‘Predators’ looks to maul multiplexes

HollywoodNews.com:
As moviegoers wait for Leonardo DiCaprio’s “Inception” to hit theaters, Universal will keep family crowds sufficed with their 3D animated toon “Despicable Me” while Fox looks to re-energize its ‘80s franchise “Predators” sans Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Their biggest foe for the No. 1 spot at the B.O.? “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” as it heads into its sophomore frame.
DESPICABLE ME
This Steve Carell-voiced comedy about a softie villain named Gru with the looks of Uncle Fester from the “Addams Family,” has already garnished positive reviews and upbeat word of month. The film was produced for only $69 million and is tracking to make over $30 million which is great for Universal which could use more hits this year after a slew of misfires such as “Green Zone” and “The Wolfman.”
“Despicable Me” follows Gru who is trying to reclaim his global image as the #1 villain by stealing the moon. But the baddie soon realizes what the good things in life are as he takes in three orphaned girls.
The feature toon is tracking at 80% fresh on the Tomatometer with reviewers such as Roger Ebert heralding “The film is funny, energetic, teeth-gnashingly venomous and animated with an eye to exploiting the 3-D process with such sure-fire techniques as a visit to an amusement park.”
“Despicable” was produced by one-time Fox animation executive Chris Meledandri, who’s been charged with creating a toon unit at Universal. Other voices in the film include Russell Brand, Jemaine Clement , Jason Segal, Will Arnett and Miranda Cosgrove among many others.
PREDATORS

What might be perceived as a hackneyed sequel is actually an action-horror re-boot well worth seeing. Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus reads “After a string of subpar sequels, this bloody, action-packed reboot takes the Predator franchise back to its testosterone-fueled roots.”
The plot is the same as the original: A band of soldiers are hunted down by aliens who have the power to camouflage — except this time they’ve kidnapped Adrien Brody’s lead protagonist. Film looks to be a cash cow with a budget of $38 million and a bow tracking at $20 million.
Nimrod Antal (“Armored”) directed the R-rated film, produced by Robert Rodriguez. “Predators” also features Topher Grace, Alice Braga and Laurence Fishburne.
Michael O’Sullivan of the Washington Post exclaims, “‘Predators’ is good if gory grindhouse fun. It tweaks the conventions of the summer monster movie, even as it observes them”

Helen Mirren’s ‘Prime Suspect: The Complete Collection’ to be released

HollywoodNews.com: Helen Mirren’s iconic, Emmy-winning role in “Prime Suspect: The Complete Collection” helped the show win more than 20 major international awards, including seven Emmys® and a Peabody. Now fans will be able to relive the classic moments on their home television when it debuts on DVD from Acorn Media on September 7, 2010.
Dame Helen Mirren (The Queen) stars as Detective Jane Tennison, “one of the great character creations of our time” (The Washington Post), in this revolutionary police drama broadcast on PBS to universal acclaim and more than 20 major international awards, including seven Emmys® (“Outstanding Miniseries” and “Outstanding Actress”), eight BAFTAs, and a Peabody. The 9-disc set includes nine feature-length mysteries as well as a 50-minute behind-the-scenes special ($124.99, www.AcornOnline.com).
Tenacious, driven, and deeply flawed, Tennison rises through the ranks of Britain’s Metropolitan Police, solving horrific crimes while battling office sexism and her own demons. “Rare is the drama that works so well on two levels: as a crackling whodunit and as a finely tuned character study of a strong but insecure woman trying to prove herself in a man’s world” (Time).
Seen on Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! from the 1990s to the present and created by crime writer Lynda La Plante (Trial & Retribution, The Commander), Prime Suspect features some of Britain’s biggest stars, including Ralph Fiennes (The English Patient), Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton), David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Ciarán Hinds (Jane Eyre), Zoë Wanamaker (Poirot), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes), and Jonny Lee Miller (Trainspotting). The ITV series aired for seven series (1991-93, 1995-96, 2003, and 2006).
Prime Suspect begins with DCI Tennison seizing the opportunity to head a murder investigation—something she should have done long ago, had she not been passed over by her male superiors time and again. With a suspect already identified and her own team openly hostile, she uncovers errors and conflicting facts that point to a cover-up within the force. The following series include: a murder inquiry in the African Caribbean community; a 17-year-old rent boy murder; an abducted toddler; the manager of an exclusive country club murdered; a shooting case of a young drug dealer; new murders casting doubt on a case she solved previously; and the torture and murder of a young Bosnian refugee. In the final series, Detective Superintendent Tennison is pushing 60 and facing the death of her father. Alcohol, loneliness, and the job have taken their toll, but she is [...]
