HollywoodNews.com: Jack Black is getting animated.

His production shingle Electric Dynamite has landed its “Tiny Monsters” cartoon at Fox TV.

The toon was written by Ali Rushfield (“In the Motherhood”) and centers on a click of mean chicks in junior high. Variety had the news.

Executive producers include Black, Electric Dynamite president Ben Cooley and the firm’s TV executive Priyanka Mattoo. Carolyn Bernstein of Reveille is also producing.

Other TV projects Electric Dynamite has in the works include “My Life as an Experiment” at NBC which is based on the A.J. Jacobs book.

Jack Black’s next film is also with Fox, “Gulliver’s Travels” which bows on December 22 in 3D. Film is a modern take on the classic Jonathan Swift book and co-stars Emily Blunt and T.J. Miller.

Season 4 will debut on DVD on September 21st, which featured an amazing array of guest stars including Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Will Arnett and Elizabeth Banks with guest appearances by Al Gore, Matt Lauer, Brian Williams, Jon Bon Jovi, Buzz Aldrin, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon, Betty White and Jon Hamm.

Show creator Tina Fey (Baby Mama) and fellow Primetime Emmy Award®, Golden Globe® and SAG® Award winner Alec Baldwin (It’s Complicated) star as TV writer Liz Lemon and conservative GE executive Jack Donaghy, who together preside over the everyday mayhem at a late-night variety show. Pretending to help them are mercurial stars Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan, Death at a Funeral) and Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant), as well as wide-eyed NBC page Kenneth Parcell (Jack McBrayer, Despicable Me).

James Van Der Beek, most known for his role in “Dawson’s Creek” back in his 20′s, is set to return to television tonight as Dr. Joe Briggs on NBC’s “Mercy. James told ET, “With this, they were offering me the opportunity to play a brilliant, arrogant, cocky doctor on a show that is already on the air and already working.”

After being launched into a 6 year stint on “Dawson’s Creek” when he was only in his 20′s, he says that he needed some time to recover from it. Well now he is back and ready to take the screen again as well as stick around this time.

Since ABC has already renewed “Modern Family” for a second season, Ty Burrell has been pondering an unfamiliar question: How will he spend his hiatus?

“For the first time ever know what I’m going to be doing in the fall of next year,” said the 42-year-old actor whose previous two series – “Back to You” and “Out of Practice” had far shorter runs than anyone expected.

“Modern Family” is a very different story. The mockumentary-style show revolving around three families that are interrelated has been a breakout hit for ABC. It’s provided Burell with a gem of a role in Phil Dunphy, a father of three who can be awfully goofy but whose heart in the right place.

“I have been through it just enough to know that even if a show is good, it doesn’t mean it’s gonna go,” the actor tells HollywoodNews.com. “We loved the show from the beginning, we thought it was a great show. But I definitely was not holding my breath to be honest. You just never know what people are going to watch.
So to have all of it come together, I realize now at this point in my career, it’s an incredibly fortunate thing. Cast, chemistry, direction, writing, and the network being behind it and really supporting it – all of those things have come together and I’m just feeling very lucky.”

The success of “Modern Family” has been even more impressive because it’s become a hit on Wednesday nights without any kind of protected timeslot like how many new sitcoms are launched. It’s also earned strong critical acclaim along with Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards nominations.

While Burrell has co-starred in such movies as “Dawn of the Dead,” “In Good Company,” “Friends With Money” and “Black Hawk Down” in addition to his television work, “Modern Family” has made him recognizable to perfect strangers on the street.

“It’s different,” he says of the recognition. “Luckily it’s for a character who is a good-natured guy so people have been very enthusiastic and very kind. My encounters on the street have been very friendly and positive. I think it would be a little more complicated if you’re playing a jerk or something but it’s been really, really lovely. Primarily people come up and say they’ve been watching it with their whole family. That’s been just like the greatest. I know we’re not curing cancer but it is nice to know that maybe parents and kids are watching together. That’s kind of cool.”

So is Burrell anything like Phil who constantly tries to bond with his three kids? The character acts like a parent but talks to the kids like a peer – a method the Phil calls “peerenting.”

“It’s somewhat based on me because I am a giant idiot, an oblivious idiot,” he admits. “Everyone is bringing in stories of their own cluelessness at home. It’s pretty funny for us to all share our failings. ”

The popular site Hulu has become a staple in homes because of it’s free accessibility to watch all the TV shows that you may have missed over the years. Now Hulu is jumping on the pay-for-content bandwagon and is going to start charging for their content. The new plan is to charge users to watch episodes of “30 Rock,” “Modern Family,” and “House.”

LATimes.com reports that the company is currently going over several plans to put into action. One option is to allow users to watch the latest 5 episodes of a TV show for free, but then charge a $4.99 fee a month to watch the older ones. In order to get people to shell out a fee as small as $4.99, they believe they need to have a catalog of at least 20 shows in order to make it appealing. They company believes they will have a price model to follow in less than six months.

Many companies are turning to the pay-for-content deal rather than looking for advertisers that are quickly disappearing and Hulu is the latest company to follow in those steps.
