Another great Hollywood Vanity Fair bash… Stars, Stars, Stars

Vanity Fair upped its Oscar game last night. They build a huge multi level tented building in the parking behind Sunset Plaza. Traffic snaked back and forth on Sunset Boulevard in both directions. There was a big security plan, with metal detectors at the check in. And then you arrived to find an avalanche of stars. Stars and stars. Two by two, or three by three, they came.
Inside the main room, just to the right, if you could find them through the fog of formally attired people, Jane Fonda and Anjelica Huston set up a beach head. Many stars, old and young, were crowded into this area including Jane’s beau, Richard Perry, and Sarah Paulson, plus Quincy Jones, who was busy looking for Petra Nemcova, and Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks. Rosaria Dawson and Gabrielle Union weren’t far away. Sitting on a couch in a section nearby, the fabulous oldies group– Mickey Rooney and Martin Landau. And they were hosting this year’s nominee June Squibb.
Praise god– Don Rickles and his wife were entertaining Don’s many fans. “Do you have any Oscar jokes? I asked Rickles. “If you’re paying me!” he said. I did get a photo.
Just at the entrance to this room I tripped over Bill Hader, who was reconnecting with Will Forte and Paul Rudd, with a big group of comics around them. Hader made a beeline to see Larry David. In time that group was joined by hit pop star Ed Sheeran, who’d just come over from playing at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation fundraiser. Only 23, Sheeran– who’d been hanging with Taylor Swift–is about to break out in a big way. His new single comes this week, with a new album in June.
From there I headed to the upper level party, where Bill Murray and a big group had come to occupy a huge round room with Art Deco-ish banquettes– a hold over from past VF parties. They store their sets! This is where a lot of guests were dining on In and Out Burgers. Here were lots of people carrying Oscars, from “Gravity” and “12 Years a Slave” crew to winner Lupita Nyong’o. Super model Karolina Kurklova and her husband Archie Drury were getting burgers. Amazing since it looks she only eats celery stalks!
And yes, chowing down, was our old pal Kerry Washington, a month away from giving birth, radiant and round.
The thing about Vanity Fair’s parties is [...]

“Vanity Fair” 2014 Hollywood Issue. A year of spectacular film with a group of distinguished actors

For the 20th annual Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue, the magazine celebrates a year of spectacular film with a group of distinguished actors. The cover, a three-panel foldout by Vanity Fair contributing photographer Annie Leibovitz, who also shot the first ever Hollywood Issue cover, in 1995, features Oscar nominees Julia Roberts (August: Osage County), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), and Lupita Nyong?o (12 Years a Slave), as well as Idris Elba (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), George Clooney (Gravity), Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station), Naomie Harris (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom), Brie Larson (Short Term 12), Chadwick Boseman (42), Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Léa Seydoux (Blue Is the Warmest Color).
Julia Roberts is an industry veteran who makes a splash with her Oscar-nominated performance in John Wells’s August: Osage County. Though Roberts has been on the cover of Vanity Fair five times, this is her first time on the Hollywood Issue cover.
British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor rivets audiences with his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Solomon Northup, in Steve McQueen?s 12 Years a Slave.
Jared Leto recently won a Golden Globe for his heartbreaking, Oscar-nominated performance as the transgender Rayon in Jean-Marc Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club.
Recent Yale Drama School grad Lupita Nyong’o won universal acclaim this year with her Oscar-nominated performance as the beautiful, tortured Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.
British actor Idris Elba brings to life Africa’s greatest hero, in Justin Chadwick?s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
The perennial matinee idol George Clooney provides a soothing calm to a perilous 3-D space walk in Alfonso Cuarón?s Oscar-nominated Gravity. He was also one of the producers of August: Osage County. This is his first time appearing on the Hollywood Issue cover.
Michael B. Jordan raised the profile of Oscar Grant III, the young man fatally shot by an Oakland transit-police officer, with his performance in Ryan Coogler?s sleeper hit, Fruitvale Station.
Recent Bond Girl Naomie Harris held her own as Winnie Mandela, starring opposite fellow Brit Elba in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
Brie Larson breaks onto the scene with her lead role in Destin Daniel Cretton?s Short Term 12.
Chadwick Boseman moved up to the majors with his performance as baseball legend Jackie Robinson, in Brian Helgeland?s biopic 42.
Australian sensation Margot Robbie, the youngest actress to grace this year?s Hollywood cover, metamorphosed into the Duchess of Bay Ridge in Martin Scorsese?s Oscar-nominated The Wolf of Wall Street.

Tom Cruise’s rep shoots down Scientology marriage story

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Vanity Fair’ has released an article that goes after Tom Cruise and his religion, Scientology, as it claims that the religion was used to recruit girlfriends and his former wife, Katie Holmes.
Now, Cruise’s rep is striking back against the article that says that Nazanin Boniadi was first selected to be his girlfriend in 2004 when she was shipped off to a Scientology center in Florida, states RadarOnline. “Lies in a different font are still lies — designed to sell magazines,” Cruise’s rep commented.
The search reportedly led to Holmes being chosen as his girlfriend and future wife. However, the two ended up finalizing their divorce last month.

Kristen Stewart opens up about being bullied

HollywoodNews.com: Kristen Stewart may be a young Hollywood star with major movies under her belt, but life wasn’t always so great for her.
Stewart recently opened up to ‘Vanity Fair’ about how she used to be bullied as a young teenager, states UsMagazine.com. “I remember this girl in sixth grade looked at me in gym and was like, ‘Oh my God! That’s disgusting — you don’t shave your legs!’” Stewart revealed.
But that wasn’t the only thing she was teased about: “I remember being made fun of because I wasn’t wearing Juicy jeans. I didn’t even think about it. I wore my gym clothes.”
It’s pretty likely that those other girls aren’t making fun of her now.

Was Kelly Ripa’s husband a male stripper?

HollywoodNews.com: Television host Kelly Ripa explains to Vanity Fair’s George Wayne why she could never co-host with husband Mark Consuelos: “No one would make me happier than Mark, but he values our marriage and he says that he doesn’t see how we could stay married and both do that show.”
Wayne then brings up Consuelos’s (semi) sordid past: “I found out in the National Enquirer that he was once a go-go boy, a male stripper.” Ripa responds, “He was. A lot of hot guys in Hollywood have done that. He was straight out of college, and he went to Notre Dame and finished his degree at the University of South Florida. So, there he was in South Florida, he’s looking to break into show business, so he started off as a roadie to a group of these guys, and then they talked him into stripping,” making the choice sound very rational indeed.’
George Wayne’s full Q&A appears in the June issue of Vanity Fair.

Clooney, Damon and Craig are Vanity Fair’s Leading Men – AWARDS ALLEY

By Sean O’Connell
hollywoodnews.com: Vanity Fair teased the cover of its latest issues, celebrating the power of three dashing leading men in George Clooney, Matt Damon and Daniel Craig. We have the full image, photographed by the legendary Annie Leibovitz, below.
As part of the magazine’s February issue, Clooney, Damon and Craig participate in the Proust Questionnair, revealing insights into their personalities that might not be evident from what we see on screen.
For example, the star of “The Descendants” jokes that if he could come back from the dead in another form, it would be as his dog because “he lives better.” Craig, meanwhile, takes a break from Bond to explain that he values patience in his friends above all, but doesn’t like his knees. And you’ll never guess what he considers his most treasured possession.
As for Damon, the star of “Contagion” and “We Bought a Zoo” says that his greatest achievement is his marriage, that his real life heroes are his parents, and that his favorite names are those of his wife and children. He and Clooney both wish they could play instruments, while the more practical Craig only wishes he had opposable toes.
There’s plenty more in the issue, which you’ll want to pick up if you see it at a newsstand.
Clooney, meanwhile, is having an excellent Tuesday, as his films “The Descendants” and “The Ides of March” earned crucial nominations from the Producers Guild of America. Learn more here.
