Screen Actors Guild Awards: What it takes

To create a dramatic arrivals area, impressive stage and intimate dinner setting for the world?s leading actors who are gathering on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, the SAG Awards® staff must transform the Shrine Auditorium entrance and the adjoining Exposition Center. The Shrine complex is a Los Angeles landmark built in 1920 in Spanish Colonial Revival style with Moorish detailing. It’s grandiose and beautiful on the outside, but the inner space of the Shrine?s Exposition Center, with its 34,000 square foot wooden floor, paint-trimmed overhangs and bare columns, has to be redefined for each event.
This year’s SAG Awards stage and décor is a contemporary interpretation of the streamline moderne style that emerged during the 1930s that pays homage to old movies palaces of that era. Architectural details such as paneled molding are highlighted by a color scheme of black, white and silver, which will be transformed by the application of colored lighting appropriate to each segment of the show. Among the design elements are a broken proscenium arch that is echoed by the broken frame surrounding the oversized screen set against a field of fiber-optic stars upstage, on which the nominated performances and tributes will be projected. On either side, vertical steel tubing echoes the organ pipes so often found in vintage movie theaters and 10-foot tall Actor® statues sit on platinum pedestals in front of them. Actor® recipients will move from the showroom floor to the stage via steps edged in aluminum and silver, while presenters will make their entrances and exits through oversized airy metal gates A black and white checkerboard floor complements the entire look.
Lay 15,872 square feet of red carpet in the arrivals area, edged by 585 lineal feet of hedges
Accommodate 300 fans in three-row six-foot high bleachers placed along an 180? section of the red carpet arrivals area
In the event of rain, protect the red carpet from the elements by 23,530 square feet of tenting
Post five 10? Actor® statues along the red carpet and onstage
Lay 11,800 square feet of black carpet in the interior Shrine entrance and the showroom
Drape the interior Shrine entrance with 4,575 square feet of charcoal/silver shimmer fabric
Post three 10? Actor® statues along […]

Miley Cyrus reveals how Liam Hemsworth proposed

HollywoodNews.com: It came as a surprise to many when it was revealed that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were engaged, but it seems that actual proposal was just as much a surprise for Cyrus.
Cyrus spoke with Jay Leno about the actual moment when Hemsworth decided to pop the question, states Extra. Cyrus has been holding “Backyard Sessions” that have her giving free online concerts to fans.
And after she performed “Lilac Wine,” one of Hemsworth’s favorite songs, he decided that was the perfect moment: “About 20 minutes after that song — it’s one of Liam’s favorite songs — he asked me to marry him. I had no idea! He was sitting there and I’m like, ‘He’s looking at me funny!’ And then I knew.”

‘Housewives of NYC’ star denying drinking problem

HollywoodNews.com: Last season, ‘Real Housewives of New York City’ star Ramona Singer was accused of having a drinking problem, but she is still fighting those accusations.
Singer recently spoke with Anderson Cooper about the claim that she was drinking too much these days, states RadarOnline. “Jill [Zarin] decided I had a drinking problem last year because she was very jealous I came out with Ramona Pinot Grigio,” Singer said about how she thought it all started.
And just because of the accusations, Singer doesn’t plan to stop drinking when she’s filming: “I haven’t had a wine in two weeks but when we are filming it’s very tense, I need a wine to relax me around those women.”

‘Jersey Shore’s’ Snooki, JWOWW banned from local wine shop

HollywoodNews.com: ‘Jersey Shore’ stars Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jenni “JWOWW” Farley are getting ready for their spin-off, but they won’t necessarily be easily supplied with wine.
The wine shop next to their new Jersey City home has reportedly banned both stars from shopping there even if they could be financially beneficial for the business, states TMZ. There is even a “No Snooki” sign on the front window, but the GM of the store added that JWOWW isn’t allowed in either.
“The only thing they are good for is ridicule and amusement. There is no upside business-wise, and the potential downside is God knows what. Why feed the embarrassment?” the GM commented.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ champagne of choice for their wedding

HollywoodNews.com: On a day when only the best would do, Armand de Brignac is pleased to announce it was the Champagne toast of choice for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ wedding reception on Saturday, August 20th at a lavish private estate in Montecito, California.
The wedding reception, created by celebrity wedding planner Sharon Sacks, featured an “Old Hollywood” theme where guests enjoyed opulent bottles of Armand de Brignac throughout the night. During a recent interview for Entertainment Tonight, Sharon commented:
“What was really great is that all of the guests were staying til two in the morning and they were drinking the unbelievable bubbly of Armand de Brignac. It is the most famous champagne in the world; it’s the most expensive Champagne in the world. Kim and Kris love the Champagne and Kim said to me, ‘If I’m going to spend money on anything, I want that Champagne!’”
People Magazine acquired exclusive rights to the wedding ceremony and reported:
“The black-and-white theme carried through to the tables, where guests toasted with Armand de Brignac champagne…”
Following the official ceremony, Kim and Kris’ guests, including Eva Longoria, Ryan Seacrest & Julianne Hough, Venus & Serena Williams, Mario Lopez and Lindsay Lohan were escorted into the property’s mansion, where they enjoyed a luxurious Armand de Brignac Champagne reception. Arcade Fire, Eminem to headline Bonnaroo music fest

HollywoodNews.com: 2011 is shaping up to be a promising year for Arcade Fire, the Canadian-based indie rock band fresh off a Grammy win for Album of the Year. While some people are still clogging up Twitter feeds with, “Arcade who?” the newly anointed Grammy winners are looking ahead to what else this year might bring.
One thing that’s certain: A headlining slot at the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.
The eclectic festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this June, announced its full line up—with the help of comedian/TV personality/music enthusiast Conan O’Brien— this morning. It comes as almost no surprise that Arcade Fire and Eminem, who recently picked up two Grammy awards for Recovery, are headlining the 4-day-long affair.
This will be Arcade Fire’s second headlining festival in the upcoming months—the band is already slated to play the top spot at the sold-out Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.
The Black Keys, Widespread Panic, Lil Wayne, The Decemberists, The Strokes, Mumford & Sons, Iron & Wine, Girl Talk, Greg Allman, and a reunion of Buffalo Springfield, featuring Richie Furay, Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Rick Rosas and Joe Vitale, are also on the bill, among many more independent and major label artists.
Bonnaroo will take place June 9 through 12 in Manchester, Tennessee. For the complete list of musical acts performing at the festival, visit Bonnarro’s official website.

The programming includes features, documentaries and shorts from around the world.
The Hollywood Film Festival, which takes place October 22-25 at ArcLight Cinemas, will open on Friday, October 22, with the feature “RECONCILIATION: MANDELA’S MIRACLE,” a sensitive documentary about how Nelson Mandela saved his country from bloody civil war and dismantled the system of apartheid through the spirit of reconciliation. The documentary was directed by Michael Henry Wilson and stars FW De Klerk, Zindzi Mandela, Clint Eastwood, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Francois Pienaar and The Springboks.
This year’s lineup includes “THE 5TH QUARTER,” a film by Rick Bieber that is based on real events in 2006 and stars Aidan Quinn, Andie MacDowell, and Ryan Merriman; “BENEATH THE BLUE,” directed by Michael D. It is the story of Rose, a beautiful, quick-witted con-artist, who makes a killing selling fake paintings. But when she scams an art loving gangster, he sets Europe’s most efficient and expensive assassin on her tail.
For comedic artists around the world, Hollywood has always been the final stop and the festival continues to spotlight those burgeoning cinematic masters of laughs in the second year of the Hollywood Comedy Film Festival, curated by entertainment journalist Anthony D’Alessandro.

David Spade just one of many ‘SNL’ alums in Farleys’ ‘Hollywood & Wine’

HollywoodNews.com: Ever since becoming a Hollywood commentator on “Saturday Night Live’s” Weekend Update, David Spade has always been embraced by audiences for his biting sense of humor.
It’s a character that has resonated throughout his career: Being the sassy guy in such sitcoms as NBC’s “Just Shoot Me” and CBS’ “Rules of Engagement.”
Spade continues to shine in the comedy “Hollywood & Wine” making its World Premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival on Saturday, October 23 at 7 p.m at the Hollywood ArcLight Theater. Buy tickets here.

Kevin Farley and John Farley keep their wits about them as a bunch of mafia hitmen in “Hollywood & Wine”
Similar to Adam Sandler’s “Grown Ups,” “Hollywood & Wine” assembles an all-star cast of “SNL” alums including Chris Kattan, Norm MacDonald, Chris Parnell and Horatio Sanz. Chazz Palminteri, Pamela Anderson, Vivica A. Fox and Jeremy London also headline.
The comedy which follows a burgeoning actress, Diane Blaine (Nicky Whelan), and her dilemma as she’s mistaken for superstar Jayme Stephens was co-directed by Matt Berman and Chris Farley’s brother, Kevin. Farley, along with his brother John, have been making their mark lately in independent comedy cinema as directors, writers and producers.
Chris Kattan plays Diane’s boyfriend who shoulders her problem as she’s pursued by a mobster kingpin Geno Scarpacci (Palminteri). Norm MacDonald stars in a knee slapping turn as a Clint Eastwood-John Huston type filmmaker whose prestigious career has taken a 180 into porn.
Both Farleys star in “Hollywood & Wine” and also have another short at the festival “Winner: Best Short Film” which is showing in the Shorts Program 9 on Sunday, October 24 at 3 p.m. Buy tix here.
In “Hollywood & Wine,” Spade plays a late night talk show host Harvey Harrison, whose character isn’t that far from the blunt commentator he portrayed on “Weekend Update” and on Comedy Central’s “The Showbiz Show” — a host who adores the company of sexy, female guests.
Quips Spade to Ask Men about how his onscreen life begins and never fades, “I think a lot of (playing Dunbar) came out of my role on ‘Just Shoot Me’. And that spilled over into real life because, since my character dated models on the old show, it blurred into reality that David Spade dates models.”

Martha Stewart facing wine lawsuit

HollywoodNews.com: Martha Stewart may be facing some new legal troubles as a vineyard is allegedly suing her over a possible smear campaign.
Stewart is reportedly being sued by Vampire Vineyards as they are allegedly claiming that she is trying “to disparage and tarnish [Vampire’s] wine brands by portraying a mock label of Vampire Vineyards affixed to cheap, non-descript wine and spirits products” so that her wine, Gallo, will boost in sales, states TMZ.
The lawsuit is going after Stewart, Omnimedia, Martha Stewart Living and others to end what they believe is a “malicious” campaign against their product.
