Video Interviews: Kristen Stewart, Maria Bello and Eddie Redmayne on “The Yellow Handkerchief”

On Thursday, Hollywood News spoke to the cast and crew of the new film The Yellow Handkerchief. In addition to conducting roundtable interviews with Kristen Stewart, William Hurt, Maria Bello, Eddie Redmayne, director Udayan Prasad, and producer Arthur Cohn, we also spoke to Stewart, Redmayne and Bello on camera.

The film stars Hurt as an ex-convict who finds himself reflecting on his troubled past as he embarks on an impromptu road trip with two teenagers, played by Stewart and Redmayne. Bello, who plays Hurt’s ex-wife May, imbues the character with both fragility and remarkable resilience, and she discussed the process of reconciling those disparate impulses, as well as her own indefatigable string of substantial roles.

In the film, Stewart and Redmayne find awkward, tender romance as the trip winds on. Stewart, who is best known for her starring role as Bella in the Twilight film series, answered thoughtfully when asked where she takes inspiration, and where she gets ideas for the complexities of a role like this. Redmayne, meanwhile, addressed the issue of finding a balance between authenticity and sympathy playing a character whose appeal to audiences might be limited, and the two of them explored the process by which they found a rhythm and relationship both as characters and actors.

The Yellow Handkerchief opens in limited release on February 26, 2010.
