David Fincher deep-sixing “Dragon Tattoo” for “20,000 Leagues”?

Hollywoodnews.com: Is David Fincher directing the U.S. remake of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”?

Smells like…No.

Director approached Disney to take over their four quadrant redux of the studio’s classic “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” with “Bourne Ultimatum” writer Scott Z. Burns to write.

McG was originally attached to direct the Jules Verne remake at $150 million. Studio chief Rich Ross paused the project upon taking control of the studio.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Fincher/Burns version will be something in the vein of “Star Wars.” “20,000 Leagues” focuses on a group of sane men who contend with a mad submarine captain and his warlike underwater vessel.

Fincher is currently in post on “The Social Network” and wants to ramp up production on “20,000 Leagues” for this winter, begging the question: Cherchez la femme with the dragon tattoo?
