James McAvoy will lead all good mutants in “X-Men: First Class”

Hollywoodnews.com: James McAvoy will lead all mutants as a young Dr. Charles Xavier in Fox’s “X-Men: First Class,” an origins tale based on the popular Marvel comic and film series.

Patrick Stewart originated the role of Xavier in the “X-Men” films. In the comic book, Xavier is a handicapped, bald-headed telepath who opens a school to harbor and educate burgeoning mutant-powered individuals. No word on whether McAvoy will have to shave his head.

Matthew Vaughn of “Kick-ass” fame will be helming “First Class” this summer in London for a June 3, 2011 release.

Hollywood Reporter says that the logline for “First Class” will focus on the relationship of Xavier with Magneto, before they were arch foes.

Early on, they were friends discovering their powers and battling threats in the world. Then they had a falling out, splitting between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Xavier’s X-Men.
