‘Toy Story 3’ posts highest opening for animated film — $41 million

HollywoodNews.com: “Toy Story 3” raked in $41 million into Disney’s coffers on Friday — the highest opening day ever for an animated film.

Film easily out-ranks the previous opening day for an animated film, “Shrek the Third,” which made $38.4 million.

“Toy Story 3” was in play at 4,025 theaters. “Toy Story 2,” which went wide during the Thanksgiving 1999 holiday, generated $80.1 million in its first five days of release.

As expected, Warner Bros.’ big-screen adaptation of DC Comic book “Jonah Hex” was cursed, bowing to $1.96 million off 2,825. Film was the frame’s second wide release.

Among limited fare, Fox Searchlight’s “Cyrus” reaped $52,211 off four engagements giving it a per location of $13,053.
