Ian McKellen expresses concerns over stalled ‘Hobbit’

HollywoodNews.com: Ian McKellen is growing impatient with the stalled production of “The Hobbit.”

To date, the actor hasn’t signed a deal to reprise his role as Gandalf the Grey and his window of availability is shrinking.

This is all according to the Playlist which was watching McKellen on New Zealand’s “Good Morning Show.”

McKellen reports that an “announcement is imminent” in terms of when the cameras will roll, however, more specifically “It’ll either be, we’re going ahead or we’re not.”

McKellen further elaborates: “What’s of great concern to everyone right now is trying to stay on schedule and not slip back another year, because we will start losing people — and that’s increasingly difficult as each day passes. A lot of people — both filmmakers and studios are working very hard right now, trying to get a positive outcome.”

McKellen further confirms that if Jackson does ultimately direct the film, the project’s former helmer Guillermo del Toro will wind up with a number credits since he co-wrote the script and “done many of the designs.”
