The Top 10… Movies of 2010, Thus Far Having recently passed the halfway point of 2010, I thought it would be an appropriate time to offer a list of the top 10 films of the year, thus far, based on a combination of my personal views and the general consensus of the critical community. As others have noted, it hasn’t been as strong a first-half as even last year, which wasn’t all that strong itself, so it’s probable that only one or two of these films will also appear on the Academy’s top 10 list (aka the list of the best picture nominees) shortly after the end of the year.

9. "Greenberg" (3/26)

Picture 2 of 10

Noah Baumbach's latest low-budget dramedy (following in the footsteps of "The Squid and the Whale" and "Margot at the Wedding") focuses on a 40-year-old man who returns to his hometown after suffering a nervous breakdown -- played by Ben Stiller, of all people, opposite indie darling Greta Gerwig. Many people who were expecting the usual goofy Stiller were shocked to find him playing the dark, troubled, largely repugnant title character. He did so with aplomb, though, and most critics lined up behind the film.
