Mel Gibson continues to work amidst crisis In the face of ugly physical abuse allegations, Mel Gibson returned to work last week in New York on the set of “The Beaver.”

The $20 million comedy directed by Jodie Foster was filmed last fall but didn’t test well. Foster’s directorial projects are often quirky, niche fare; her last film 1995’s “Home for the Holidays” made $17.5 million at the domestic box office.

In “The Beaver,” Gibson plays a guy who communicates through a hand-puppet.

A Page Six insider on the Gotham set described the atmosphere around Gibson when the nasty news about his relationship with Oksana Grigorieva hit: “Mel was in complete shock. Everyone was walking on eggshells around him. It was the weirdest set ever.”

I hope that the studio and the production company has plenty of money to burn because I think that this movie is DOA when it premieres in the theaters.
