How to prevent the Danielle Staub breast implant deformity

By Dr. Bradley Frederick Fans of Bravo’s reality series “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” have heard a lot about breasts since the show debuted last year. Or make that “boobies” as the woman are so found of calling them.

At first it was Housewife Teresa Giudice who decided to get a breast implants. Then, Dina Manzo announced her decision to get a breast reduction after struggling with back and self-consciousness issues for a decade following breast enlargement. Now it is resident bad girl Danielle Staub who recently went under the knife to correct a deformity caused by her breast implants.

The problem was due to capsular contracture, which is caused by scar tissue forming then hardening and contracting around the implant. It is the body’s natural response to a foreign object being placed in it and it is the most common complication from breast implant surgery. It is most likely to appear in the months following the surgery but can happen at anytime. There is research that suggests it is less likely to happen with saline implants and when the implants are placed under the muscle. Beside the visual disfigurement, this condition can be very painful. Usually, the remedy is to remove the implant.
