Twilight “Breaking Dawn” to film in Baton Rouge and Vancouver

By Kim Palacios During the June 24th Red Carpet Premiere of “Eclipse”, producer Wyck Godfrey leaked that he and Bill Condon were set to location scout in Louisiana for “Breaking Dawn”. In all the excitement about “Eclipse”, the fact that scouting was set to take place outside of the Pacific Northwest was swept under the rug. Yet, a recent press release from Summit Entertainment revived the dormant story, confirming not only that Louisiana was a location of interest, but that filming would take place in southern locales.

The press release was sparse, saying only that the final installments of the Twilight Saga would be “filmed in both Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Vancouver, [Canada] over the next year starting this fall.” It went on to reiterate previously known facts, such as the November 18th, 2011 release date of the next film and confirmation that “Breaking Dawn” will be split into two.

Bringing filming to Louisiana will be a boon to the economically compromised state (and, to a lesser degree, to states along entry and exit routes that fans will use to make pilgrimages to the set). Decimated first by Hurricane Katrina, which made landfall nearly five years ago, the region’s financial crisis has endured as a consequence of the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. A “Breaking Dawn” filming effort will allow the region to recapture some of the lost income that came in the wake of destruction.
