Simon Cowell’s ‘Idol’ replacement might be Chris Isaak? Who isn’t biting their nails, awaiting the news of who will replace Simon Cowell on Fox’s “American Idol”?

Preliminary auditions have already begun for the 10th season of the show.

There’s no question that Fox wants a major music personality and the Hollywood Reporter is headlining that Chris Isaak has met with the network twice.

While Isaak isn’t confirmed yet, Fox expects Cowell’s shoes to be filled by early September.

Meanwhile, Cowell’s upcoming Fox singing competition “The X Factor” is also seeking judges.

The British press has been beating the drum for Elton John to replace Cowell, announcing a number of times that he’s a shoe-in and would receive a plump paycheck.

Isaak would give “Idol” a different tone; definitely less pungent than Cowell. While he’s a revered romantic blues pop singer, he does possess a dry sense of humor as evident on his Showtime sitcom “The Chris Isaak Show.”

Harry Connick Jr. and Bret Michaels’ names were also tossed around.

Stay tuned.
